As the Accessory Fair opens on this beautiful Saturday morning, I am thrilled to be featuring the Hera Earrings and Cocktail Ring from Abraxxa Anatine of EarthStones. I remember some several months back that she told me she was going to do something really crazy, that she always wanted to do. Abraxxa is one of those who doesn’t give hints, though, so it was not until she finished the ring that she shared the story of seeing this amazing ring that she fell in love with and lusted for. Like most of us, though, the $26,000 price tag made her jaw drop and made that dream unattainable – until she decided to make it for herself in Second Life®. Luckily for all of us, she has also made matching earrings and not only are these gorgeous, extraordinarily detailed masterpieces available they are not $26,000 or even 26,000 lindens. As you can see, the pieces consist of five constellations of diamonds around a central clusters of gems and inner suns of citrines and topaz – a veritable cluster of solar systems – an entire universe to adorn yourself.

Rising Expectations
It’s been a while since I have blogged Phoenix Rising – and that’s unfortunate because the clothes are even more distinctive and fun. Take this lovely outfit called Motive, is there anything more fun that that lovely plaid corset with the wide sash and belt?
Too Sexy For My Skirt
Polina Kaestner has made one of the sexiest, cutest skirts ever!! It is very sheer and your legs will show – and that’s the point! It has a perfectly discreet pair of matching glitch panties and that is enough to keep embarrassment at bay so long as you don’t have a friend like Gidge who actually sent an IM to the entire fashion bloggers group saying she could see my butt and then sent a slurl inviting people to come see my butt. However, I was not embarrassed. The skirt is adorable and a few glimpses thanks to my AO isn’t going to upset me. I should have just changed AO’s, but Gidge was having too much fun. Considering that she was wearing the Lonely Goatherd dress and carrying a goat, I think she really didn’t have a leg to stand on.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep
Stopping by the woods, I decided to rest a bit on the handy dandy Torridwear benchwarmer. I wasn’t dressed for much walking around in the woods, but a short stroll down the lane could be lovely. Actually, I am wearing the glitch pants from the Cachet Cleo dress – one of my favorite dresses of all time. Ever considerate of the average fashionista’s desire for versatile clothing, Cachet includes leg prims with the dress so the glitch pants can double as fancy, pleated dress pants.
Bold & Beautiful
While shooting the new Efe skin from PXL Creations, I decided to feature one of the bolder pair of pants in my inventory. From Stitch by Stitch, these Valeska pants come with a sweater as well, but I opted for a blouse and sweater vest instead. If you are feeling sad and weary, if the world’s troubles are getting you down, go to Stitch by Stitch. It’s such a happy store with bright vibrant colors and patterns that will lift even the mood of such a notorious grouch as Ebenezer Scrooge.
A Sunny Day
Hart Larsson from PXL Creations has made a lovely skin for black avatars. One of my real-life friends that I brought into Second Life is African-American and has lamented the state of black skins in Second Life many, many times. It’s not that black skins don’t exist or that no effort was made to create beautiful skin. She described it as the skin having the wrong undertone so that it looks flat. She also said it was often too light or too gray. When Hart sent me a bundle of promotional copies of this new Efe skin I tried them out and think they are what she was looking for. If she weren’t pregnant and a few days overdue I bet she would be camping outside his store waiting for their release.
Normally I would not wear a black skin because putting on a skin does not bring with it the experience and culture that it projects. A white person role-playing a black person could easily transgress with inappropriate stereotypes, cultural appropriation and even blatantly racist role-playing. I think nearly all of us have seen this happening in SL with some of the “gangsta” avatars. However, I did want to highlight this fabulous skin and shot it in a few outfits inside my photosphere.
Mondrian
Ever since Yves St. Laurent ripped Mondrian’s paint off the canvass and shaped his art onto a woman’s body, colorblock dresses have been a perenniel staple of fashionistas around the world. In this iteration, Dani’s Fashions adds a perfectly matched yellow jacket with lines that align perfectly with the dress. It’s really quite stunning and was a joy to accessorize.
Hearts & Flowers
Another day of cuteness with adorable embroidery from Meu! and Stitch by Stitch. The top is from Meu! on Osaka sim. It’s the store called Meu! & Ska, a joint store with fun, playful shirts. I could not resist the lovely embroidery in this top. I decided to wear the Stitch by Stitch embroider shrug because I am not afraid of too much of a good thing. Adding a simple pencil skirt kept me from going over the top.
Cute Alert
Okay, sometimes clothes are just too darn cute. You put them on and say “Aww!” and then you run around upping the cuteness quotient by choosing a cute hair style and cute shoes and cute makeup. Of course, if you mention Schroedinger’s Cat people might not think you know what you are talking about, but smart people will know better. One of the things I really like about today’s television shows is the prevalence of cute and smart people – like Abby on NCIS and Charlie Eppes and Amita Ramanujan in Numbers. I just love seeing smart people who are cute. Now, what does this have to do with the Aqua Plaid dress from Dani’s Fine Fashions. Well, it’s cute. It’s really cute. It’s not black, so Abby would not wear it….but it’s a great bargain, so it’s a smart purchase. Which would make you both cute AND smart.
Bright Lights, Big City
Sadly I could never finish the book Bright Lights, Big City even though I generally like Jay McInerny. Something about reading an entire book in the second person is just too daunting. Still, the jacket from Chantkare is called Brite Lite which made me think of the novel…and then this pose is such a “model” pose that it also made me think of how the main character would look at mannequins in shop windows and imagine they were his wife. Blog post titles are so hard to come up iwth sometimes and the tenuous connections that create them can be bizarre. Not bizarre, however, is the Brite Lite tweed jacket. It’s marvelous and makes me think of Chanel. I love jackets and this one is just so well structured.
