I used to think that I didn’t wear dark skin tone skins -let’s say it BLACK skin tones, because I couldn’t identify with them. Chalk that up to being white and American. Okay the post is about the dress – but in this shot, all I could think of was those rocking boots. **Ahem, steps onto soapbox**….It is better that you have ONE of something GOOD vs. 20 of something crappy.***Steps down off of soap box***.

I love the various forms fashion takes……this latex sheath (I dunno what else to call it) can be futuristic, retro or otherwordly. It really put me in mind of Priss from Blade Runner – which is probably why I brought out Digit’s Feathered Skin from her new UnDress line. Continue reading

Our friend Maht had a gallery showing of his photography a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to pick up something new to wear but wasn’t made of lindens that day.
It’s days like that, when I say “Thank God for Bare Rose”. The prices area always excellent and you get a nice assortment of colors of most styles that you purchase. When I put on anything “MENS” I always have the same question.” HOW BIG ARE THEIR AVS BECAUSE GOOD GRIEF THIS PRIM IS BIG!” I’ve got a few men’s pieces, and this shirt from Armidi – the Gisaci Cambridge shirt is no exception. It’s completely cute in a variety of ways but ya gotta work to get those prim cuffs from being wonky.
I love my Bernie skirt from Poison Candy – this is the one WITHOUT the logo- I haven’t been there in a while though – this used to be a freebie. It’s got great detail with a zipper in the back and lace edging around the bottom. Continue reading
Skin Flicks has released a bunch of minidresses that will make your legs look like the go on forever. They’re a bit short for my usual taste, but are made quite well and are different enough from most minis to be really interesting. For example, the lace-up bodice on this one is repeated with a lace-up side seam on the skirt.
So while wandering the shops at Ivy Falls I came upon a shop with a mixed bag of clothes from different stores. Above the door, almost invisible to the casual shopper I saw this ballgown that seemed sort of anachronistic. The sleeves and skirt and all seemed like a historical gown, but the shirt fabric with the elephants was clearly modern. It occurred to me that bringing it into the future with a mini skirt would be kind of fun and be a great example of how mixing and matching can make 1 plus 1 equal 3.
I picked up the marvelous Exile Shir hair – a fundraiser for Heart of Love – and love it’s classic looks and its flexibility. That clip holding the french twist in place is color change, but it’s also modifiable, so I could color it to be as matchy-matchy as I wanted. Now how fun is that? And if you get this marvelous hairstyle you will also be helping the Heart of Love campaign. It’s the epitome of win-win. Then you can wear it with the over the moon wonderful watercolor sweater and skirt from Uncle Wiggily.
Regular readers know I there are a few designers that simply flip my switches. What they do just appeals to me on a different level than most fashion. Most designs that I like, I can admire and evaluate relatively objectively. If it’s reasonably priced, I will buy it. If not, I won’t. Then there are those whose designs disconnect my brain from my wallet and blow my budget. They do something unique and new. Their clothing doesn’t remind me of anyone else. It’s wholly their own. LadyThera Taurog of Lady Thera’s Art & Fashion is one such designer and if ever there were a case of brain disconnection, it is this dress.
