Dita Did It

While perhaps not the most famous wedding dress in the world, the Vivienne Westwood stunner that Dita von Teese wore for her wedding has got to be in the top ten – if only for its bold royal purple silk taffeta fabric. Impossible has taken on the challenge of recreating it in-world and proved that contrary to the name, it is possible.

In the Valley of the Kings

Among my most unique pieces of jewelry is a heavy ornate Egyptian Revival necklace with the head of King Tut made of bakelite. Both bakelite and King Tut arrived on the scene in 1922 and much of the jewelry of the later Egyptian Revival combined both of them.  Admiring the Digital Alchemy event at Kings Rezzable, I was reminded more of the Egyptian Revival than anciant Egypt and that is as it should be – that was when Egypt was its most fashionable. That’s why Inorite’s classic bob is the perfect hairstyle – incorporating the modernism of the 1920’s with the Egyptian Revival aesthetic.

Don't Ask Me Where to Find It.

So Gidge is participating in the Greatest Love hunt – hiding a box at her store Don’t Ask with special freebies for the hunt from some of the designers she features in her store. Among the offerings are skins and lingerie such as I am wearing here.

May I introduce to you Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Pants?

It was twenty years ago today,
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They’ve been going in and out of style
But they’re guaranteed to raise a smile.
So may I introduce to you
The act you’ve known for all these years,
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

She Flies Through the Air

with the greatest of ease – particularly when using the Aerial Assault poses from Long Awkward Pose. While visiting Festivale yesterday, I was entranced by Pixel Dust – a store in a big circus tent –  complete with trapeze swings. I remembered a dress Miffy from Zenith gave me a month ago or so and thought it might make the perfect aerialist dress.

Festivale

I was eager to see the new Festivale sim. Whether giggling over the names of the Long Awkward Poses or enjoying the witty conversations on plurk with Autumn Hykova and Dove Swanson – I figured their new sim would be made with wit as well as skill…and it is. I was thrilled to find this old pickup behind the LAP store and immediately knew I wanted to take a picture. Happily I was already dressed in something that suited the setting.

Joy, Bliss and General Goodwill

Whilst previewing a new gown from Phoenix Rising called Darken Bliss (shown below the cut) I just fell in love with the corset top and wanted to show it off with another style option. With a name like Bliss I decided it needed a little more goodwill and opted for the sleek, svelte and sexy pencil skirt from Mimikri called Joy. Bliss and Joy, I think we should all sing Kumbayah.

Trailblazer

Michelle Obama has excited the fashion world this past year and has often been compared to another first lady, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, because, like Jackie, she is a fashion trailblazer. With hypercritical attention of the press, most First Ladies opt for well-known established designers and safe colors and designs. Michelle Obama’s choices on Inauguration Day signaled in two ways that she is not going the safe route. First, she chose relatively unknown designers, not opting for the security of an old design house. Secondly, although the silhouettes were classic and certainly safe, the fabrics and colors were bold and adventurous. My choices for this outfit offer an homage to the brilliant color coordination and experimentation she offered for the historic event.

Mixing it up a bit

Sometimes outfits are so complete and create such a statement that we don’t think about trying to mix them up with other clothes. They have such a strong look as they are. This sometimes makes frugal shoppers think twice about buying since they believe they will only get one look, but I would submit that if the clothing makes a strong statement as a whole, its parts will be strong as well and can be mashed up with other outfits. For example, here we have Mina from Blue Blood where I have switched out the skirt for a more casual look.

Truth Be Told

Truth be told, there was a rocking hot hair sale at Truth with single color sets of hair for only 50L, so I popped over to stock up because Truth makes good hair and in particular, makes amazing updos. This one is Antie II and comes with many flower choices. I had to edit the attached flower a bit because its original attachment point displaced an earring and that just won’t do. I must have been on auto-pilot and not thinking because my first attachment was to the eye. Now all of you should just go an attach a hair flower to your eye just so you can have a good laugh. I laughed so hard I hurt. I ended up putting it on the chin.
