I Ain't No Holla Back Girl

posted by Gidge Uriza

Miffy was horrified that I had been in SL over a year and only owned on proper set of boots. So when she gave me these – I knew I had to rock a fun outfit to go with. Something MAD MAX vs. spoiled Diva was what I was going for.

Digit Darkes had a L$1 sale on a hidden item, the Piper shirt and it was an incredible find.  Some designers do separates well, some do full outfits, but Digit does both and it’s so much fun to pick up a new piece and see what you can do with it. Continue reading

Make Mine a Malacca

The blog title was just a moment of mourning for the passing of the finest gin ever made when Bombay discontinued their wonderful Bombay Malacca a few years ago, leaving me to settle for the fine, but decidedly not as fine Bombay Sapphire. Ever since I saw The Bar, I have been wanting to shoot there, but also wanted to wear a dress that suited its rich palette. The Arioso dress from Blaze that I got at the RFL Fashion Expo a few weeks ago was what I was looking for.

The Arioso dress is amazingly flexible with multiple layer options. The textures are rich enough to deserve shooting here at the wonderful bar. Among the layer options, you get two color accents and two skirt lengths. She makes it in six jewel-tone colors. Scrumptious. I want them all. There are more photos at Flickr.

Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon

Fridays I go painting in the Louvre.
I’m bound to be proposing on a Saturday night
There he goes again.
I’ll be lazing on a Sunday lazing on a Sunday
Lazing on a Sunday afternoon………………Freddie Mercury

When I got dressed this morning, that song popped into my head. After battling ghost prims last night, I felt I deserved a good lazy day. For you non-lazers out there, lazing is not something you can just do on a whim. It’s an art form and requires mental discipline and proper clothing and equipment. First, you must discipline your mind to ignore unsorted mail, clothes wrinkling in the dryer, cat hair on the carpet and other distractions from a good laze. For equipment, you need some snacks and out of the can food so you can get in and out of the kitchen in two minutes or less – lest you slip and put away some dry dishes or wipe down the counter. Most importantly, you need the right clothes. Comfy, non-binding clothing that let’s you loll around on the couch, the floor, the grass, whither you wander. More importantly, the clothing cannot be too bright and cheery – bright and cheery colors pep you up and pep and lazing are incompatible. Not everyone can do it, but if you approach it with discipline, the proper uniform and a good mental attitude, you too could be lazing on a Sunday afternoon. Continue reading

Hellbound to Paris

When I saw the ad for Diversity Hair’s newest hairstyle, the model was wearing this corset and I was all “gotta have it.”  Thanks to Aleri and Sasy, I was able to track down the eye-dazzling corset, the jacket layer of a lovely black and purple lolita style dress called Hellbound from Sn@tch. Some of its appeal comes from the lovely ruffle detail along the top, but wait until you see the zing on the back. Continue reading

Mix to Match

If you noticed Second Life® tilting slightly the other day, that was when Zaara released her newest design, a long dress called Calangute that comes with absolute outrageous belting on the jacket layer and everyone rushed to get their own. These belts will get their use. I made a copy and pasted it into my belts folder so I remember to use them with other outfits. This is the chocolate version of the dress and it comes with a lovely long textured skirt that I was not in the mood to wear. I wanted knee length but I remembered that I had a dress from DP Serendipity that was a very similar color and sure enough, the skirt from that dress was a perfect match. I used the other dress’s pants layer to make sure the seams and highlights lined up. I was more than happy with the result.

Another photo and style notes after the cut.

Collars & Carrouels

I wish I knew the meaning of the word carrouel – the name of these wonderful sculpted pants from Ce Cubic Effect – so I would know whether my blog title made any sense whatsoever. They are lovely and functional sculpted pants that keep their form while you walk and while you dance. They also come with a dramatic flowing belt scarf. The drama and flair of the pants called out for something equally dramatic to balance them and so I opted for wearing Bianca Foulon’s marvelous Black Collar. Shai Delacroix’s well textured and understated cashmere sweater make a great foil for the more dramatic elements in the outfit. Continue reading

Blogher 08 Returns to Second Life!

Okay I’m clearly the Blogher 08 Mascot as I showed up in the CNN iHub orientation area wearing the Blogher Colors.
I screwed this post up earlier and killed our side bar so I’m reposting and crossing my fingers as I type. Let this let be a lesson to me, don’t cross post from blogger. (Sorry for the bad photo – clearly this is NOT one of Cajsa’s beautiful photos). Continue reading

Roses in Denmark

I wandered around Denmark yesterday, looking at the lighthouse, the ships and the village. It was a lovely sim and they had beautiful weather while I was there, with just a light breeze. Luckily, I was wearing a light sweater and was perfectly comfortable. ; )

I layered a baby pink cotton camisole with a lightweight rose pink one-button sweater and a lovely red and pink gingham skirt. The lovely Sasy Marakesh Passion Sandals were a perfect match. What really made the outfit though was the rose flower necklace from chicoco, set off with earrings from DeLa and bangles from VG Republic. For additional photos you can check my Flickr. Chocolate Swing

Don’t you just love jackets? I certainly do, from short crop jackets to flowing swing jackets and every stop in between, I love them all. Frankly, I love them best when they swing open, unzipped and unbuttoned, so that I can enjoy the layering of my clothes. Here using the underwear layer for my cami and the jacket layer for the jacket, I  could have even added a vest or other top over, but that would not have suited the light gauzy fabric of this marvelous jacket from pop feel. For more photos, check my Flickr.

pop feel makes 5 of these jackets in different shades and prints and they are a wonder. Floaty and light, they really swing when you walk. Fair warning, though, I did have to do a fair amount of prim editing to get the jacket’s drapery to fit right – not just stretching it a bit, but also, moving individual prims that did not lay quite right on me and it was clearly fitted to a smaller avatar shape. Of course, having to adjust the flexi-prim is fairly common and it was not too difficult. And it was definitely worth the effort.  Continue reading

Bubblegum Lip Smacker – (And the Best Freebie Earrings in SL)

posted by Gidge Uriza

Maht was DJing at the Garage one night and at a loss for what to wear, I pulled together some oldies and newbies for a fun club ensemble. The skin I picked up at the Velvet Heart hunt on Bianca’s new shopping sim just reminded me too much of the days of slathering my lips with bubblegum lip gloss.

The kind that actually tastes good.  Continue reading
