You Americans, You're All the Same. Always Overdressing for the Wrong Occasions

posted by Gidge Uriza

I always blame my overdressing on my old friend Jenn Lemmon. She was a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge and she was a notorious OVER dresser. I told her once how much I envied her fantastic gowns, and that I wasn’t going to an event at Moulin Rouge one night because I just didn’t have the clothes for it…….and she laughed.

“Oh Gidge, don’t base your wardrobe on me. I ALWAYS overdress for everything.”

“Always Overdress for Everything” became my mantra the night she gave me L$1500 as a gift to go to Indyra to buy a wild pink gown complete with top hat. I fell in love with fun/nice clothes and HERE WE ARE. Continue reading

Lingerie with Seven Laces

I came to the hobby of lace-making through default. It was one of the few handcrafts my irritatingly over-skilled sister had not already tackled and conquered and wrote the book to tell the tale. I will never write any books about my own handiwork, but they are coveted as presents – especially as I can only complete a few projects a year. Still, it has created a deep love of lace and the craft of lace-making.

That is why this lovely lingerie from Carnal caught my eye immediately. The crisp contrast between the black and the white, the many layers of lace, the almost tuxedo like neatness of the lines combine to make it an attention-grabbing set of lingerie. However, since so much lingerie is difficult to wear under clothing, I can resist a lot of great lingerie. What made this irresistible was the combination of laces, almost a Whitman’s Sampler of lace. Continue reading

Oh Mighty Isis

posted by Gidge Uriza

I am probably one of the only ones in SL who is old enough to REMEMBER the Isis/Shazaam power hour but I promise you, it was one of the GREAT moments of Saturday morning television during my childhood.

I popped into Prinny’s Prims jewelry based on a Fashcon notice several days ago because I’d never heard of her and I always need new jewelry. She had advertised a sweet freebie (not pictured) but while wandering the store I saw THIS – THE ISIS NECKLACE!!! Continue reading

It's Not Sold Out In Second Life®

Some Second Life designers are real life designers whose creations take a journey from idea, to paper, to fabric to pixels, linking their First and Second Life design business. Carnal, House of Nyla and Petal Meg are a few that pop into my head without doing any research. Another, though, has been added to that list, Poison Candy, located at the Cannery Rezzable. They have irreverent, irrepressible and imaginative designs such as this charming tattoo dress, which is currently sold out in Real Life. Ah, the advantages of  Second Life!!!!

Through a Glass Darkes-ly

posted by Gidge Uriza

It’s only a LITTLE bit blasphemous. Lighten up.

The Serina evening gown by Digit Darkes is a celebration of classic formal style without apologies. If Jane Austen and Margaret Mitchell got together, wrote a book and spent an endless amount of time describing the heroine’s gown the night she met Lord Poorbuthandsomewick – THIS is the gown they would describe. The Answer is Blowing in the Wind

Do you ever want to shoot a photo with your hair blowing in the wind – and don’t want to mess with a prim-eating, lag-inducing, angle-limiting N30 just to get some wind effects?  Why not just get hair that’s already blowing in the wind?  Oops, did I sound a bit negative there? It’s my 8th day as a non-smoker and I am feeling cranky. Ignore that, and focus on the hair.

This particular hair is from Aden and is called Windblown – a name that captures everything you need to know which makes it one of the few hairstyles with a name that is actually descriptive of what it looks like and requires no memorization. Gosh, that’s cranky sounding too!!! I think I should just post a couple photos and the style notes and shut up.

Caught in Amber

The fabric on this Mariah dress from Cachet is exquisite. The intricately worked deep gold pattern against the subtle rose background gives it such depth and style that it is irresistable. The lovely lace edging on the hem seems to move it toward romanticism, but it is drawn back by the sharp contrast of the simple lines of the bodice – successful straddling that divide between severe simplicity and romantic femininity. This sort of bold style is typical of Cachet and makes for fun and interesting outfits.

Sweetie Freebies and 2 Mysteries

posted by Gidge Uriza

It all started with the shirt. I was surfing around onrez looking for something – I dunno what – just SOMETHING when I used the sort filter and looked at the freebies.  This cute little tank just jumped out at me and I knew it’d rock with my candy belt that Miffy made.
