Patriotica – Part One

Live From the CNN Center in Atlanta!
My fellow Americans, and Ameriphiles,
The 4th of July weekend is almost upon us.
In RL this means barbecues, family picnics, parties, cookouts, trips to the beach and the omnipresent fireworks displays.
IN SL this means all of the above – plus the REQUISITE fashion adjustments for the old Red White and Blue. Continue reading

Sn@tch Saris

People who live where it’s really hot know that the secret to dressing for hot weather is not wearing next to nothing but wearing loose, comfortable natural fibers that breathe and wick moisture away from your skin.  The hotter it is, the more my colleagues from Bangladesh, India and the Philippines wear. So, learning from the experts in hot weather dressing, when it hit 103 yesterday, I didn’t take off, I added on….with this lovely sari from Sn@tch.   Believe it or not, the fat pack of Saris skirts with the silver top comes in 6 skirt colorts for only 250 lindens. I can handle lots of 103 days at that rate.

Root Root Root For the Cubbies!!!

GO CUBS!

I’ve been holding this little gem back for a while waiting for the Cubbie-Sox game. Alas, Cubbies didn’t pull it out, regardless I’ve got a cute little outfit for you sports girls out there. Continue reading

Retro Prints

Nothing can bring an outfit to life faster than a bold retro print. Take this cute little jacket and skirt outfit from Miffyhoi Rosca at H&M.  She sells it with a white v-neck crop top and it’s adorable. It has prim cuffs, collar and a bit of prim swing to the jacket as well. The attention to detail on the prim collar is stunning as you can see in the close-up photo below.  However, it needed some color, I thought, so I reached in the closet and pulled out this retro print top from The HUB. That spark of color just brought it all to life.

Punch Drunk or Full Moon?

So Gidge tells me my dress look it’s made of Swiss Cheese. I thought it looked like it had been made with a paper hole-puncher. Either way, I love the eccentric alignment and layering of a myriad of textures into this wildly detailed skirt prim. It moves and flows beautifully and is a perfect dress for parties. The sheer inventiveness of the textures and the joie de vivre in its design make it a winner in my book – even though now that Gidge mentions it…

Out of the box, it comes with a plunging top that is drop dead sexy. Wanting the people around me not to drop dead, I dug in my inventory for something a little less fatale. The Pixel Dolls corset in the Embers shade seemed a perfect match and adding a Persona sash in Orange gave it a touch of boldness that was echoed in the shoes and jewelry.

When a Fashionista Gets Dressed…..

posted by Gidge Uriza

When a fashionista gets dressed
there are two possibilities.
She can slick back her hair with V05 and some give it some shakes for an unkempt style, appropriate for some dinner at The Hurricane Cafe.
Or
She can coif herself elegantly wearing a feminine style that speaks more of a night at Minnie’s .

If she reaches for the tube of V05 that’s that.

But, if she coifs herself elegantly then there are TWO possibilities. Continue reading

Halston Reborn – As a Frenchwoman

Review Guidelines on Link AboveAt The Chateau

posted by Gidge Uriza
I slipped into Elemiah designs after seeing a cute babydoll dress on Freestyle and I wanted to see more. It’s possible that I have an unnatural affinity for the modern, feminine lines drawn by Halston back in the day – I had a bachelor uncle who was a huge fan – but I immediately saw a comparison in Elemiah’s designs with the late great designer.

Far from being just an SL version of his designs, what I find at her shop is a modern sensibility to the style that Halston pioneered. Delicate but modern, clean lines with a feminine flair. Even her frillier femme pieces are still flavored with a hint of modern line. Continue reading

Hot! Hot! Hot!

You know that song?  It’s played in many films, dance competitions, it’s almost ubiquitous…the song that goes Hot! Hot! Hot!  Well, that’s the song I heard in my head when I saw this new release, Franch Affair, from Digit Darkes in the color Dijon. Dijon! Not Mustard. A vibrant, bright summer heat wave of a slip dress, French Affair skims your body and curves over your assets to a short, but not vulgarly short, skirt with a miniskirt prim that’s perfectly matched and placed. I shot several photos in all sorts of positions to test the limits of how well that miniskirt prim worked and it passed with flying Dijon!

Poetic License

I found this fun little poem by Brooke Freeman on PoemHunter. It’s not one you would find in Tiger’s Bookstore for Rare Books, but I like it anyway. This is just a taste, to read the entire poem, go here.

I Know Fashion

I know fashion
Models posing, critics complaining
Celebs shopping, paparazzi stalking
I know fashion.

One of the bonuses of blogging about fashion is that I occasionally am offered a new outfit to review. AvaGardner Kung let me choose a couple outfits from Kungler’s to review, including this outfit called New College. It includes the brown tank, cream print top on the jacket layer, glitch pants, a prim skirt and a prim scarf. I am not wearing the scarf because I wanted to wear this Bishwear hair that would have hidden most of it anyway. Since the outfit is named New College, I decided to head to a nearby bookstore.
