A-Bomb is The Bomb

When Lavea Alter dropped a folder with some newness from A-Bomb, I didn’t look right away. I had recently shown a few great outfits from A-Bomb and had a long list of to-do outfits. But then, curiosity got the better of me and I tried on this outfit called Ventura Highway and was thrilled to see that Lavea has added the shadows on the skin that clothes naturally cast – a huge step forward in design and one that very few clothiers take the trouble and effort to do. Look along the neckline, the waistline, the edges of the top – this is someone stepping it up several notches. And look at that prim ruffle, is that insanely good or what? What’s even better is the ruffle comes on the chest and the spine so you can wear it as you need it.

B&W, Braids & the Hottest Shoes Evah!!!

I recently found a couple of darling black and white dresses, both heavily influenced by vintage styles, both from relatively under-blogged stores and oddly enough, I wore my hair in braids with both of them, though totally by accident. What was not an accident was my choice of shoes – the hottest shoes ever, ever, evah! But first, here’s a lovely black and white pop print from Lost Dreams with the useful and descriptive name Retro Dress.

This dress also has a pop print though the shape is a good decade older. It’s name is Delana Kisses, an unhelpful name unles you think those teardrop shapes remind you of Hershey’s Kisses or something. This is from ROC.

Three More from Coco & Co.

An adorable black and white jumper. Shoes are from HAYSURIZA.

A white lace top with black leggings. The shoes are from COCO - gorgeous, but why oh why oh why oh why do we have to tint each foot color separately? Most of us dont have different skin on the left and right legs.

A white lace top with black leggings. The shoes are from COCO - Hawt!!! Gorgeous!!! But why oh why oh why oh why do we have to tint each foot color separately? Most of us don't have different skin on the left and right legs. Let's hope they make a quick fix and update that soon. The tinting hud is unwieldy and slow and to do it twice is just not nice.

Marketing Matters

Coco & Co. Tailleur Romy

I admire clothing designers. I have no idea how they have the patience to match seams and the control to do the fine detail work. Even though I understand the technical aspect of how clothes are made, it doesn’t matter. In addition to technical knowledge, skill, imagination and creativity, I utterly lack on essential ingredient and that is patience. I could no more spend hours on a drawing than I could climb Mount Everest. I can however, shoot a photo and even get rid of those white lines as needed to make an alpha cutout for a floor stand. So, typically I assumed that if the alpha displays in a store were poorly done (something I could do) then the clothes would be poorly done as well (something I could not do.)

However, today I was in a store that had clothes based on Chanel designs, clothes made with me in mind. Tweedy, nubby knits, tailored jackets, system skirts, all my fashion loves wrapped up together. The alpha textures displaying the clothing, however, were terrible. But, oh I did want the clothing. So…I put out a plurk question for designers asking if I was wrong to assume bad alpha displays = bad clothing and though there was some belief that what is worth doing is worth doing well (yes!) that in all honesty, my assumption was wrong and that the only way to tell was to buy something. So… I bought the least expensive outfit.

And the edges were perfect! Seams were matched! It was everything I hoped it would be and oh, no, I spent too much money. Here are three of the outfits I picked up – inspired by real life designs and absolutely scrumptious.

How to Avoid Ugly White Edges on Your Alpha Textures: There’s a handy-dandy tutorial by Robin Wood on how to make an alpha channel. The Solidify filter that makes it easy to have nice clean edges is free and can be downloaded from Flaming Pear here.  To be honest, there have been stores I have not purchased tempting items from because of bad alpha displays. The only reason I made the purchases today was that I was assured that it did not necessarily mean the clothes were bad. However, no one was going to guarantee they would be good since those kind of problems can mean not caring about details.

The One Where I Do The Happy Dance

Posted by Gidge Uriza

WHY ARE MY FINGERS IN SHADOW! AAAAAAAH!! Okay, ANYWAYS…

I’m doing the happy dance. I’m seriously doing a dance of joy and this was the best way to show you. WHY? WHY?

Well, it all started like this, first I popped into Fleur cuz she’s got all her skins 1/2 price and I like her boutique skins – she’s got some pretty faces and I wanted to take a long gander at what she had just to see if there were any I needed. (cough, cough).

While I’m there studying face by face…I just notice she’s got a freebie up on the wall. And I say, SELF – I wonder what is IN that freebie? I check it’s contents and it’s several skins I HAVE….but it’s also a nice assortment for “newbies” of her Vivant skins which I had never tried.  A range of tones, etc. Continue reading

Dante

Sometimes the names of outfits confuse me and I try to figure out why they are named what they are. For example, this jacket is named Dante. Well, it is hellfire red, I guess, but other than that, there is nothing hellish about it. In fact, I think it is divine. Hmmm, maybe that’s the reference, though it’s not comedic. Color me confused, but enthralled with this lovely rich and oh-so-luscious jacket.  You can find it at the new-to-me Paper Street Soap Company, a store I stumbled on while looking for another. Those are always the best kind, aren’t they?

While I have your attention, let me also add that Gidge is out of surgery, in recovery and while not ready to dance the cha-cha, the surgery has gone well.

Murder Incorporated

There actually was a Murder, Inc. that flourished (if you can use that word for it) from the 20’s until the 40’s – a company of hired killers and enforcers who worked for the National Crime Syndicate.  However, the mob has never been an equal opportunity employer so I am sure Miss Murder never worked for them. Actually, Miss Murder is the name of the delightful little plaid outfit from A-Bomb that includes this adorable skirt and tie. It’s so cute that it’s already had a few outings on the feed so I decided to change it up a bit by changing the shirt to this one from Cachet (Lelutka).

CCAD

With the marvelous launch post from Winter Jefferson, Callie Cline Appreciation Day got off to a wild start. I cannot even begin to imagine anything to top that, so will take the safe route and highlight a wonderful gown by Callie Cline and acknowledge Callie’s extraordinary gift for amity. I constantly read comments about those in the fashion world that stereotype us as particularly shallow, catty and drama-riven despite the frequent and constant examples of cooperation and charity such as Relay For Life, the Heart of Love and design collborations such as the recent design challenge. I could go on for hours listing examples that contradict that stereotype of the fashionista, but really, all I need to do is mention Callie Cline and the stereotype falls into the dustbin in which it belongs.

She Wears High Heels When She Exercises

posted by Gidge Uriza

Just out for a quck  jog through the blogoshpere here………wearing a new release from Don’t Ask.

The most annoying part of being me is my amazing lack of attention to detail that I only ever notice days and days later.

I wrote down both this and another outfit as being called Revecca. Well, good thing we’re not a megastore so either one is easy to find -right?

Miffy made this top in a rainbow of colors again (yay Miffy!) and she’s made a cute denim mini to go with. I dunno, I don’t love denim mini’s a LOT so I rarely even look twice at them, but this one is fairly cha-cha without being hoochie.

There is a fine line between cha-cha and hoochie – doncha think? Continue reading
