Epic Beauty

Some store freebies are just astonishing – and the ones from  Kouse’s Sanctum are at the top of that list. This dress, Calliope, named after the oldest and wisest of the muses, blends perfect feminine shaping in the bodice and skirt with the assertiveness of the mythical Calliope in the bold cerise fabric. This is a group gift for Kouse’s sanctum – so beautiful and elegant that it displaced my planned outfit for the day, jumping into line ahead of her turn, just like Calliope would.

This Calliope is versatile as well, the skirt comes in three versions from this slim skirt in the photo to a grand ballroom circle skirt. The sleeves have two lengths in the flowing draperies. The shorter chiffon draping is pictured, but the set includes fuller longer chiffon draping. With such an elegant dress, the simple but lovely Darling hair from Laqroki, though as usual, I have tinted it myself to get it closer to the shade I want.

Am I Blue?

posted by Gidge Uriza
Picking something to wear for my first night hostessing in a while was a fun reason to rifle through my inventory to find something I haven’t worn yet. I knew I wanted to wear something nice without over dressing too much and that’s when I stumbled into one of my favorite freebie dresses.

The Metal Rose

Rose Metal

I admit it, I am hopelessly infatuated with a few particular Second Life designers – and Iota Ultsch is one. She sends a notice, I am there with lindens in hand despite her relatively high prices. Why am I willing to pay twice as much I usually do when it comes to her clothing? It comes down to two factors. Originality and customer service. Iota’s textures are original – they are rich and detailed and come together in outfits you won’t find anywhere else. She has a sense of whimsy and humor that infuses her clothes with originality. Customer service is where she really excels. For example, she replaced the no mod system skirt for a modifiable one when I complained about having issues with system skirts refusing to rez for me. To give a more immediate example, I had a minor quibble with this dress but before I could even talk to her about it, she sent a notice telling folks she found an error and was replacing the offending article. Proactive customer service is better than anything at winning loyal customers.

I think Iota has a fascination for metal and how it plays with light, catching it and reflecting it, shimmering brightly and fading darkly. She has done several metal dresses, but this is my favorite for its femininity – not just he ultra feminine coppery rose shade, but the flattering curves on the bust and figure-hugging slim bodice sliding gracefully into the flowing skirt. This is a womanly dress, rich, vibrant and passionate. Don’t you just want to reach out and touch it?

We're The Bomb

posted by Gidge Uriza

Ever buy something JUST so you’d have an excuse to take a cool picture? When I was putzing around Digit Darkes looking for shoes the other day I remembered that Freestyle had done a post about Aleri Darkes (located conveniently next door) having men’s bomber jackets on sale for $L1.
I quickly shot Cajsa a note, telling her we should get the jackets and to a tough girl shoot – just for fun.

Spies and Secret Lives

Spies and Secret Lives

Maht, my partner, loves to organize his sets around a theme. Tonight, he played espionage music such as Secret Agent Man and theme songs from Mission Impossible and James Bond interspersed with songs about secrets and secret lives. I wanted to dress the part and while shopping on Saturday i saw this little number at Bolero Collection aptly names Super Sexy and immediately thought of Mata Hari – or should I say Mahta Hari?

I tried out several hair styles and hair ornaments, but nothing made me happy and i didn’t feel like running out and buying a hair ornament in the middle of dressing, so I decided to tint the Daphne Formal Hair from Amrita that originally came with white pearls and feathers. First I edited the entire hair to darken it by clicking on the texture tab and tinting it with the dark gray preselect. Clicking the black would simply flatten all the textures, but you can retain them by using the grey. Then I chose the select texture button and selected all the pearl and feather pieces and tinted it gold. To get this particular shared, I used an RGB of 200:165:80 in case you want to try replicating that shade.

To honor the nipple tassels and the lovely lace bow on the back, I chose the Digit Darkes black and gold Elphaba shoes with the bow on the back of the heel. Jewelry from Paper Couture and DeLa completed the outfit. You can see more photos on my Flickr. Additional photo showing the back ribbon and style notes after the jump.

En Vogue avec VOGART

Vogart Skirt

by Cajsa Lilliehook

Today i was running around the beautiful Costa Rica sims with exploding volcanoes and thunderstorms and being thoroughly impressed by the quality build. I started the day dressed for cooler climes – with this stunningly rich red jacquard skirt from VOGART and the nubby tights from pochette. I tossed on a leather jacket with this camisole underneath in case it got warmer and it sure did. Costa Rica was steamy so I lost the jacket. The shoes, though, were sturdy enough for hiking through the rainforest.  All in all, a beautiful day.

Nicky Ree Brings It For Mothers Day

As I sit lunching on watercress sandwiches with the ladies at the club, I’m endlessly thankful for this lovely summer dress made available for $L1 from Nicky Ree for Mothers Day. Conservatively “in fashion” without being outspoken, it’s the sort of dress one could wear quite appropriately at many social occasions. She includes several skirt options – from this flowery wisp of a skirt to a lovely fitted satin option to take it into evening-wear.

Glitter Baby Pink Puff

Glitter Baby Pink Puff

By Cajsa Lilliehook

I was in a shopping mood and knew I would be trekking hither and yon and I surely did, visiting shopping centers from Portland to Milan to Mumbai to Tokyo and ports in between. A girl’s gotta be comfortable when hopping around like that, especially walking from one end of a sim the other to make sure not to miss the little boutiques with great craft, originality and no land description. Paper Couture’s silk wrapped low heels are perfect shoes for long walks, the heels comfortably low, but still fashionably chic.

And then….I could not resist putting on some of my purchases as I went along. First up, I found this lovely purple blouse @ Emery. It comes with black slacks, but then I went to Callie Cline’s store and noticed for the first time that there is an upstairs…and found these pants so aptly named Glitter Baby Pink Puff. They come in several colors, but it looks as though the basic pants are the same and the color differences are in the top and one pants alternate…and that this particular pant i am wearing comes with any color option.

The find of the day however was this perfectly messy hair from creamshop. Why is it perfect? Well, in RL I fell asleep on wet, uncombed hair (bad, bad, bad) and this is my RL hairstyle today. What synchronicity! I could not resist wearing it.

ooh baby, it's a plaid world

It's a plaid world

Posted by Cajsa Lilliehook

Inventory cleaning time!!! It’s a dirty job but we all have to do it. And it’s best we dress for the work at hand, something rugged that can stand up the heavy lifting and flying dustballs of inventory cleaning. Okay, okay, none of that is true, I just wanted to wear my Cordovan Boots. I love their clean but rugged good looks. From Five Minutes After – they are a steal @ 230 Lindens. Much less than your average boot – while as detailed and better fitting than most.

Nothing goes better with great cordovan leather than a nice plaid shirt. Thimbles has some of the best, with prim colors, bright collars and tiny tiny price tags. You can take a peek at more leather lusciousness on my flickr. Additional photo and style notes after the jump.

Kimono Motion

posted by Gidge Uriza

I love Kimonos. I can’t say enough about them, but I’ll try to be concise. They are, in my opinion, one of the perfect feminine garments on the earth. Delicate, ornamental, plain, or extravagant they can fit any occasion.
I can slip into a kimono and attend any event wearing some casual hair and not be over dressed. Or I can dress it up with traditional hair ornaments and other accoutrement and attend a formal event. Art gallery openings, ballet recitals, live music performances – I’m in perfect form wearing a kimono. Continue reading
