Color My World

I know I told you how much I love Iki Ikarus’ use of color the other day before promptly showing you an outfit she made that was all in brown. Well, here’s a truly colorful outfit from her – though just as atypical of her usual color usage as the brown outfit the other day. These are bright colors and she usually uses desaturated colors – but despite that difference, the same understanding that color and pattern need to be freed from old habits come in to play. She understands that sometimes you just want colors to come bursting out all over – rich, saturated, vibrant rainbows of color.

Catch Me In the Slipstream

Today I am wearing clothes from some of the best design houses in Second Life – Casa del Shai, Maitreya and Tesla – and it shows.  It’s gold, babe.

Some people never recognise it
Though it’s right before their eyes
And shines in all its glory
They never ever see
They choose something that looks just like it
And it may glitter all the time
But gold it will never be
I guess you never held on to quality
Or you woulda recognised by now
Something so special so true
When it’s standing right in front of you

I’m gold babe
Catch me in the slipstream
Passing by the fools who just don’t know
Pure gold babe
You’re looking at the real thing
If you knew my worth you wouldn’t let go.

Fairy Grace

During an intermission at the SLag Fetish Burlesque Show – a show that should be on your must-see list – Hart Larsson passed me a few makeups in his new Grace skin line that he will be releasing this week. This is one of them and so elegant that I had to open the blog post with a photo of it.

While wandering high and low yesterday through all the Albero sims trying to find the store where I bought a shirt so it could be properly credited in the blog – I stopped by Twinkleberry another favorite jewelry store and discovered that the creator was working in collaboration with Un Pick – the designer for the eponymous Unpick clothing line. I saw this dress and it’s acid green appealed to me as did the Twinkleberry garland and anklet accessories. I don’t roleplay fairies, but I do love fairy costumes. Gidge’s influence I suppose.

I <3 Pixel Dolls

Pixel Dolls has been running a 50L sale for weeks now – discounting dresses one type of clothing one week and another the next.  Since I have always thought their regular prices were a good deal for their quality and thoughtful construction – this 50L sale is more exciting for me than the freebie hunts. You see, Pixel Dolls creates wonderful textures and rich, deep and vibrant colors and makes them on every layer. Their clothing is versatile and wonderful for mash-ups.

Mash-Up Fun

I love the Undine Cami from Pixel Dolls though it does present some challenges to mixing and matching as the long trailing bows on the side are on the jacket layer which goes under system skirts. How sillly is that? Jackets should always been on the outside…but that just means finding a non-system skirt with prims that don’t extend too far to the sides. Sure, I could wear the cami with any pair of pants, but I wanted a skirt.  Before going and trying every skirt in my inventory, I remembered Cachet’s Cleo – a dress that had a very restrained and tailored skirt..and sure enough, it was exactly what I needed.

Looking Backward

I will only borrow the title of Edward Bellamy’s book since the main predictions of his 1888 book missed by a mile, though he did sort of predict debit cards, Wal-Mart,  and Itunes.  Somehow, though, I think if Edward Bellamy were alive today he would live in Second Life even more than most of us.  However, in looking backwards, I am focusing more on the delightful attention to the back displayed in this top from Spice and Sugar and pants from Naive.  Since so much of us spend a lot of SL looking at our backs, isn’t it nice to see designers taking pains to make the back interesting.

Truth Be Told

Truth be told, there was a rocking hot hair sale at Truth with single color sets of hair for only 50L, so I popped over to stock up because Truth makes good hair and in particular, makes amazing updos. This one is Antie II and comes with many flower choices. I had to edit the attached flower a bit because its original attachment point displaced an earring and that just won’t do. I must have been on auto-pilot and not thinking because my first attachment was to the eye. Now all of you should just go an attach a hair flower to your eye just so you can have a good laugh. I laughed so hard I hurt. I ended up putting it on the chin.

It's a Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod World

Today’s outfit would never have come together if not for the good sense and grace of designers who allow their customers to mod their clothes. I really wanted to put these pieces together but the colors weren’t quite right…but thanks to flexible and smart designers from Thimbles and Maitreya, I am happily wearing exactly what I wanted to wear. It all started with this fun and adorable coat from BomBon. Yes, BomBon, not BonBon.

Hobo Christmas

I was very unhappy at being snowed in and unable to spend Christmas with friends as planned. So, when I saw this Christmas tree at Forgotten Village, I  wanted to photograph it.  It sort of expressed what my holiday felt like.  In order to better express my mood, I thought I would outfit myself with some grunge wear.

Winter Warmth

Wouldn’t it be lovely to be able to wear all the lovely winter wools and layers and run around in the snow and ice and have your feet stay warm, dry and toasty? Wait,  it’s Second Life and I can. Whee! As someone who grew up in the Minnesota Northwoods – who remembers the joy of touching a frozen metal stair rail with my tongue at age five and recalls my hand sticking to the door handle of my dad’s car, I so love living in a warmer place that seldom sees a flake of snow. But I would have occasional bouts of nostalgia for the sparking beauty of winter snow, of hoarfrost on the trees and all the loveliness that winter brings. Second Life gives me a taste of that without the chapped lips and runny nose.  And so I can dress for these winter wonderlands in lovely wools such as this Zona Cero coat and this Boom sweater.
