The Dress That Fell From the Midnight Sky

You know how sometimes when you purchase an outfit or two, the store owner might happen to be online and send you a thank you IM and even, sometimes, drop you a freebie?  Well, that happened late last night while I was shopping at Azul. Mami Jewell of Azul sent me a thank you IM and then dropped this dress on me as a gift – not a freebie, but one she said would go on sale soon, on Sunday evening.  She didn’t do this because I have a fashion blog – she didn’t know that – but simply because of the lucky happenstance that she was online while I was shopping  past the midnight hour.  I decided that if I like it, I would blog it today. I went home, put it on and almost swooned.

Well, I didn’t just like it. I love it. Velvet textures are hard to get right and these are perfect, deep, rich and lustrous. The narrow skirt widening to a short mermaid style train is made with 3 prims, 2 leg attachments and a skirt prim. With glitch pants and a system skirt, you’re covered for a wide range of movement despite the narrow skirt. The halter bodice rises gracefully, a perfect setting for dramatic and bold jewelry or the classic simplicity of pearls. Then there is the back…oh my, the back.

Don't Fence Me In

I have loved horses since I was a child with my first Shetland. I don’t completely believe in Shetlands for children. Yes, they’re small, but they are ornery. Morgans are much better tempered and don’t love to bite nearly so much. Of course, SL® horses like this appie don’t bite at all. In fact, if you fall of a SL horse, your computer needs fixing. My appaloosa comes with an English saddle so although I don’t always put on jodhpurs, I do like to dress appropriately. I thought this lovely outfit from DE Designs with a very martial cut and flair suited the occasion and the rich scarlet of the jacket made me think of English riders riding to the hounds — not that I would do that. Especially since I met a perfectly delightful black wolf named Tabitha while I was out riding at Grendel’s Children.

If you think you might like riding, I recommend going to McLean’s Horse Farm where you can get a demo horse to ride. Then (hush, I probably should not tell you this) just jump the fence and follow the railroad tracks. You can follow them through several sims. When you come to the terminus, a short fly (yes, the horses fly) will take you to another sim and the Linden Road. You can ride for hours, enjoying the scenery as you traverse dozens of sims.  There are other horse farms, but none oter that I know of with access to the Linden Road. Just don’t dismount or you will have to go back to the start. I am sure, though, you will enjoy it enough to go back to McLean’s to get your own horse that you can ride anywhere. Fair warning though, to get on the horse, you have to wear it and if your wearing a skirt, it will come off and embarrass you.

Stormy Weather

There’s nothing like a storm starting just as you leave the office to catch a bus home after working late into the evening to bring on a pity party. Fortunately, my outfit was just too cute for pity. Combining Honey Kitty and Schaudenfreude (just love that combination of words), I felt almost perky about the rain. I was wearing the brown Revenant outfit from Schaudenfreude, which makes up the skirt and corset here. The blouse was a lovely light brown, sleeveless top, but it had a skull pin at the neck. I just am not into skulls for clothing except maybe on Halloween, so I decided to wear another blouse. I had this delicious cream blouse from Honey Kitty in my closet – a blouse with loving attention to detail on the collar and cuff prims. Continue reading

Short & Sweet

Short and Sweet! Not just the dress, the post as well. I am working late in RL and taking a few minutes just to post this outfit and let you judge it for yourselves.  I went a little pared down on the accessories because the beaded collar straps eliminate the need and the advisability of a necklace. I went for the taupe shoes because taupe is undervalued when really, it’s a lovely and versatile color that needs more outings.  Continue reading

Patriotica Part Five – Fresh Baked Patriotism

posted by Gidge Uriza

Another designer that is generous with the freebies especially around the holidays is SYD – Style Your Destiny.  For just a linden you can pick up this sweet little July 4 dress in their store in world or on ONREZ. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to break out my color change bracelets from Fresh Baked Goods.  I love these – any bracelet that I can make work with any outfit is definitely a best buy. Patriotica Part 4 – New York State of Mind

Me and My Favorite Harbour Chick!

posted by Gidge Uriza

When I first conceived of doing this whole week in Red White and Blue, this was the outfit that inspired my silly notion. Every once in a while I sweep Onrez for freebie and dollarbie newness and this kyooot little number popped up a couple of weeks ago or more. From Awesome Designs you can still pick it up here for $L1.  You can probably also pick it up at the Awesome Designs maintsore In World however I haven’t popped over there to check. 🙂

I think my favorite thing on this outfit (besides the excellent vibrant color) are these fun stockings! Continue reading

Dotty About Creamshop

Let’s clear one thing up first. I love polka dots. Not surprisingly, they are named after the dance, but only because at the time textile manufacturers were producing the polka dot fabrics, the polka was the hottest dance craze around. Just think, if polka dots had not come out then, but say in the 20’s the may have been Charleston Dots or Shimmy Dots. If they were named today, what would they be called? Crump Dots? I kind of like the name Shimmy Dots, but I don’t suppose we could persuade the world to change the name.

Creamshop makes two delicious polka dot skirts in one lovely fatpack. I am wearing the black with gold dots, there is also a white with gold dots skirt. There are lovely bubble skirts – a skirt fashion more suited to SL than RL where wrinkling and flattening while you sit are not going to leave your skirt out of sorts all day long. As you can see, they provided another opportunity to throw on my Elphaba shoes from Digit Darkes. I believe there might actually be a dozen outfits by now with those shoes on this blog (just guessing!) Continue reading

Sn@tch Saris

People who live where it’s really hot know that the secret to dressing for hot weather is not wearing next to nothing but wearing loose, comfortable natural fibers that breathe and wick moisture away from your skin.  The hotter it is, the more my colleagues from Bangladesh, India and the Philippines wear. So, learning from the experts in hot weather dressing, when it hit 103 yesterday, I didn’t take off, I added on….with this lovely sari from Sn@tch.   Believe it or not, the fat pack of Saris skirts with the silver top comes in 6 skirt colorts for only 250 lindens. I can handle lots of 103 days at that rate.

Retro Prints

Nothing can bring an outfit to life faster than a bold retro print. Take this cute little jacket and skirt outfit from Miffyhoi Rosca at H&M.  She sells it with a white v-neck crop top and it’s adorable. It has prim cuffs, collar and a bit of prim swing to the jacket as well. The attention to detail on the prim collar is stunning as you can see in the close-up photo below.  However, it needed some color, I thought, so I reached in the closet and pulled out this retro print top from The HUB. That spark of color just brought it all to life.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

You know that song?  It’s played in many films, dance competitions, it’s almost ubiquitous…the song that goes Hot! Hot! Hot!  Well, that’s the song I heard in my head when I saw this new release, Franch Affair, from Digit Darkes in the color Dijon. Dijon! Not Mustard. A vibrant, bright summer heat wave of a slip dress, French Affair skims your body and curves over your assets to a short, but not vulgarly short, skirt with a miniskirt prim that’s perfectly matched and placed. I shot several photos in all sorts of positions to test the limits of how well that miniskirt prim worked and it passed with flying Dijon!
