Hot! Hot! Hot!

You know that song?  It’s played in many films, dance competitions, it’s almost ubiquitous…the song that goes Hot! Hot! Hot!  Well, that’s the song I heard in my head when I saw this new release, Franch Affair, from Digit Darkes in the color Dijon. Dijon! Not Mustard. A vibrant, bright summer heat wave of a slip dress, French Affair skims your body and curves over your assets to a short, but not vulgarly short, skirt with a miniskirt prim that’s perfectly matched and placed. I shot several photos in all sorts of positions to test the limits of how well that miniskirt prim worked and it passed with flying Dijon!

Stardust Memories

Stardust Memories…

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Oh, that Hoagie Carmichael sure could write a great song, a timeless classic that will still be sung if and when we ever travel to the stars. This dress, Daphne Diamond, from Casa del Shai, has that same sort of classic timelessness. I can picture Greta Garbo sparkling in this, but I can also close my eyes and see Deanna Troi waltzing in it at some intergalactic ballroom.

What makes it a classic? The elegant simplicity of its lines, the subtle soft sensuous fabric, the always chic silvery gray color, and the way it clings and sways to the body. Then there is the simple and restrained embellishment of stardust on the skirt. It is a dress that could last forever. And oh….is it ever sexy.   Continue reading

Cha Cha Cha Cuba

Cuba, cuba here I come
There’s a place in the caribbean sun
Land of future
Land of dreams
Checking for the coast … Ace of Base

Getting dressed last night, i started with the gorgeous Serina Dress in purple from Digit Darkes, but you know I love to deconstruct my outfits, so I took off the top which is the same color as the base of the skirt and pulled out a purple two-layer top from Pixel Dolls to pick up two of the colors in the richly adorned bottom tier of the skirt. It looked lovely, but I wanted a little more heat so I added a burgundy sash from Persona’s indispensable sash fatpack. Have you gotten your own fatpack yet? What are you waiting for? I Ain't No Holla Back Girl

posted by Gidge Uriza

Miffy was horrified that I had been in SL over a year and only owned on proper set of boots. So when she gave me these – I knew I had to rock a fun outfit to go with. Something MAD MAX vs. spoiled Diva was what I was going for.

Digit Darkes had a L$1 sale on a hidden item, the Piper shirt and it was an incredible find.  Some designers do separates well, some do full outfits, but Digit does both and it’s so much fun to pick up a new piece and see what you can do with it. Continue reading

Glam It Up for Shopping

So I decided to go check out Viva la GLAM, eager to see what they have done. I decided to fortify myself before heading out to the sim, just as a sensible shopper has a snack before going to the grocery store. So, I dressed and accessorized and all round glammed up. Not that this stopped me from going downright silly when I saw the great necklaces and bangles at Viva la GLAM, but I tried.

I started out with a lovely pink dress from Pink, formerly SeVan, called Tessa. I don’t know if you have been to SeVan, but if you haven’t, it’s a treat. The clothes are arranged by color there – and for some reason, I just love seeing all the reds and all the greens in their groups. I added the Tropical Heels from Digit Darkes that I picked up at the RFL Fashion Expo last weekend and the luscious Glam Earrings from creamshop. You can get them in several colors. Believe it or not, the set comes with an even more massive set of earrings.

There are many more photos on my Flickr.

This Dress Is Made of Glitter

What to wear when you want to be all dressed up but a formal ball gown is just a bit over-the-top?  I think you can’t go wrong with this dress from Chambre to Chocolat. Eshi Otawara is justly famous for her amazing fishhook dress and the incredible art/fashion installation the Death of a Phoenix, but if you think only of those works, you might skip her store thinking she’s out of your budget range and maybe a bit too avant garde. But that would make you miss so much as she has a fabulous talent for creating ethereal and wearable fashion.

Take this dress, aptly named This Dress Is Made of Glitter, which comes in five glorious colors (blue, gold, hot pink, violet and yellow) and is a favorite in-between dress. The kind you pull out in-between casual and formal, for when you are going to a party and aren’t sure whether it’s formal or not. You don’t want to show up in a floor-length ball gown, but you don’t want to look underdressed. You need and in-between dress and this is it. You can see more pictures of it on my flickr. Not So Mellow Yellow

Forget mood-altering drugs, give me some clothes! Nothing can perk me up faster than a bright print that shouts, “Hey World! Look at me!” and that’s what the print skirt in the lovely Outono outfit from MG Fashion. The skirt comes with 3 perfectly coordinated tops – and I chose the petroleum colored one because I wanted another POP of color and this brilliant pink Dictator Jacket from Digit Darkes was what the doctor ordered.

This jacket comes in six colors and you should collect them all because they are great add-ons to move a nice outfit from cute to chic and from sweet to scrumptious. Not only that, but they are very versatile as I have shown before – wearing just the sleeves from my yellow jacket to turn an ordinary tube top into a hot, hot number. Take a look on Flickr for more views. Continue reading

Date Night – That's What Friends Are For

posted by Gidge Uriza

You can imagine how bewildered I was when Silo told me to buy a pretty dress because we were going to have a fancy SL date. I mean, BONUS – an excuse for shopping. But being married in RL means that we don’t spend a lot of time doing the “romance” stuff in SL.  Plus the fact that he spends about 99% of his time in SL as a little robot AV.

His instructions were simple. Buy something VERY fancy. We were going to a very fancy place that required reservations. Cajsa and I ran the gauntlet of elegant stores but wouldn’t you know I went back and bought the first dress I had run into. I had first thought of going to DeGroot because I had picked up a gown for my Christmas Ball there and was WOWED by the loveliness and detail of it. And of course I now had a perfect reason to pick up those Elphaba heels from Digit Darkes I’d been coveting but they just seemed so FANCY I couldn’t ever figure out what to wear it with.

My only question when picking out this dress, then, was WHICH COLOR? It came in several but I settled on Teal. There is a wide variety of colors available, you can find them in world or on SLX. You can see the rest of the shoot here on my flickr page.

But before I give you the fashion details – I have to have a Paul Harvey moment

The REST of the Story. Continue reading

A Simple Black Skirt

posted by Gidge Uriza
You need a simple black skirt. That’s what they told me when I was new. Simple. Something that goes everywhere, with everything. Something you can wear to a casual party or a fancy dress event. Don’t squander your lindens on something that won’t work with a lot of different tops.
In short – find that perfect skirt version of the “little black dress.”
So I looked. And I looked. And I shopped. Continue reading
