Lemania's Ribbons

posted by Gidge Uriza

Our window for wearing heavy, overly ornate cocktail dresses and gowns is closing – at least as far as the RL season goes. Soon we’ll be shedding tafettas,  heavy silks and velvets for cotton damasks and chiffon.

But not quite yet. 🙂 Continue reading

Jazmin & Clyde

Bonnie & Clyde may have come to a bad end, but I think Jazmin and Clyde roll together famously and will ramble along until a comfortable retirement in some distant inventory purge.  The Clyde in this outfit is the new line of ribbon-tied ankle boots from Digit Darkes.  Jazmin is the marvelous minidress from Bare Rose that is as soft, romantic and frilly as can be…and flexible as well, wearable as a blouse or dress (just drop the  prim) and comes in several colors. I chose the wear the black dress for this shoot.

Bathing Beauty

posted by Gidge Uriza

There are a handful of creators who put out new releases at a discounted price upon release, for a limited time, or do one color in a discounted price for a limited time. Second Wave Apparel is one of those, and I excitedly open her notices to see if the new goodies are something I want.

When I noticed the halter top came with panties to make it a retro-style swimsuit, I was sold. Continue reading

The Best Store Name Ever

Waking up stiff and cold, huddled in the back seat of a rusted out Nash Metro that I pulled over somewhere off the highway outside Las Vegas, I stretched and squinted past my knees wincing at the light bouncing off the white sands of the desert plains. I grabbed my bottle of whiskey to quench my dry mouth and saw I had emptied it in the night and unfortunately for my head, I didn’t spill a drop. A Soweto beat booming in my head from the mix of whiskey, chips and salsa and whatever else I could grab at the Arcade, I crawled out of the car and decided to end this little experiment in Gonzo writing by rezzing the huge box of promotional items from Fear & Clothing – the best named store in Second Life. The first thing I tried on was this Sharkskin Red Striped jacket that I completely fell in love with.

Fashionable Relay Challenge

posted by Gidge Uriza

The Pink Plainers by Shiny Things that Tesa used were the building blocks of my fashionable relay challenge entry. I cannot resist the opportunity to hose myself down in girly pepto-bismol pink.

I thought it only fitting that a trip to PINK OUTFITTERS ended in a super girly pink look, to top off these excellent shoes. Continue reading

Backwards and In Heels

posted by Gidge Uriza

This tribute to the glamour of old Hollywood – called GINGER ROGERS is a dollarbie which wraps up TODAY at about 8am SLT.  Ginger had to do everything Fred Astair did……..except she had to do it backwards and in heels. Now WHO was the better dancer?

This heavy black dress is simple and timeless and is going to be retired as of about 8am SLT-ish……..TODAY. Continue reading

Anastasia/Anna

Mika has a wonderful outfit with a vintage flair called Anastasia. The fur muff and trim makes you think of Princess Anastasia who was rumored to have survived the regicide of the Romanov’s in 1918 and showed up years later in Paris. DNA tests proved conclusively that she did not survive and that the Anastasia of Paris society was a fraud, disappointing many. However, I think that Anna Anderson, a Polish factory worker, who was able to pull off such an ambitious and far-ranging long con is a much more interesting character and has a much more interesting story.Perhaps in honor of the deceptive story of Anastasia, this dress is deceptively simple at first glance – yet has three different ways to be worn just as Anna Anderson had three identities.

I sell the morning paper, sir.

My father played banjo and sang in a country/bluegrass band and I have lost count of all my cousins and other relatives who are in the music industry – so I come by a head packed with musical references quite honestly even if I inherited my singing voice from the “sings like a sick cat” side of the family. Everytime I see a newsboy cap like this one from Haute Style Company, that old Jimmy Brown the Newsboy song pops into my head… and it just won’t go away.  No matter that the real Jimmy Brown sang “I got no hat upon my head, no shoes upon my feet.”

Would You Like To Come To The Pants Party?

posted by Gidge Uriza

Okay, there isn’t a party in my pants. I just wanted to use that line.

I picked up an outfit to wear snowboarding, and kept wanting Cajsa to shoot it, but this was the third or 4th outfit I pulled out that I had saved and this STILL Wasn’t it.

Sigh. But It’s cute, isn’t it? Again from RAY SKIN, again a dollarbie I think this one may have been in the back of the store beyond the courtyard. It was actually NEAR the snowboards – thus my confusion. Continue reading

Water Spirits

This dress and jewelry set is another collaboration between Unpick and Twinkleberry – and available at the Twinkleberry store in Albero. Named after Ondine, the water spirit, the dress in particular evokes the element of water – particularly with the prim skirt.
