IFW10: Going to the Chapel

Second Life has created a transnational community that illustrates on a daily basis that the people of the world have more that binds us together than divides us.  Some of  those ties are frivolous such as excitement over the World Cup and love of fashion and music. There are also more profound bindings as well – such as the certain fact that all of us have someone in our lives affected by cancer. No wonder, then, that Relay For Life is such a huge series of events over the course of the year.  This weekend, International Fashion Week features 20 designers – and all have a unique design on auction to raise funds for RFL. Of course, there are all sorts of other fabulous creations there such as this gown I am teasing you with.

Meanwhile, it’s Relay Weekend and as part of that the fabulous St. Illuninatious Cathedral is also on auction.  Now, some might find it sad that one of the strongest forces unifying people in Second Life is cancer, but that’s not quite accurate. The strongest force unifying people in Second Life is hope – the hope that working together they can defeat cancer.

Mènage á Trois

Well, don’t tell their spouses and partners, but I think that Saschi Vixen of Adam n Eve, Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice and Chance Greatrex of DARE must have had at least a mental mènage á trois because their creations work together so perfectly. When I saw the Adam n Eve Chrome skin I immediately thought of Baiastice more avant designs with a futuristic edge. Putting them together, I knew I wanted a different aesthetic for the poses than the usual and pulled out DARE’s magnificent homage to the art of Robert Longo. I love what the three create together in the pictures I shot at Omega Point. I shot most of the poses in the set if you care to click through to see the rest.

Hey, did you happen to see…

Hey, did you happen to see the most beautiful girl…? This photo of Gidge made me think of the old Charlie Rich song except the rest of the lyrics just don’t make sense for the post or our friendship so I think I will only borrow half the first sentence.  How’s that for arbitrary? There’s nothing arbitrary about this skin, though, and the classically elegant beauty it portrays. It’s an upcoming release from PXL Creations and I would love to tell you when it’s coming out but frankly, PXL skin designer Hart Larsson needs to have a sit-down with Voltaire. He’s made 8 new iterations since this one – all improvements, though most too subtle for me to see. However, it won’t be long and I can’t wait to see the makeups.

The two of us are wearing lace dresses from Choramimi – a new-to-us store we found at Switch, the shopping sim. I finally dragged her to eha and she loved the hair. Then we ran around looking at other stores and found some lovely things like these dresses at an uebelievably low price of 77L each.

Kicking Up Our Heels – Literally

posted by Gidge Uriza

Cajsa and I are completely fruity with glee over the release of the Cajsa Boots and Gidge Shoes from A-Bomb.  They have been out for sale for a wee bit, but with me being off line to have the baby, it took us some time to get together to shoot them in all their glory. Continue reading

Dotty is as dotty does

I have mentioned my love of polka dots before. I don’t know why, but they make me smile. No insult intended to squares and triangles and rhombi, but they just don’t press my happy button the way these lovely little round circles do. Polka dots often make me think retro and rockabilly. They make me think of Rizzo and Jive-Talkin’ and dancing the night away.  Certainly this fun little set of separates from A-Bomb would have made Rizzo happy any day of the week.

The Long and the Short of It

Sonatta Morales is a genius at making gorgeous gowns that you can picture all the great divas wearing. When I am in her store looking at the clothing, I am seeing Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Clara Bow – and the rest of the pantheon of glamor and talent. This *8* Jewel gown is certainly one of those fit for a diva – but unlike a RL gown, this one comes in long and short versions with a quick adding of a prim or three.

StoRin & R.icielli

Annah Whitfield is one of my favorite pose makers. Her poses are great for showing off clothes and shooting pics for the blog as they have little or no distortion and are carefully calibrated to avoid breaks and intersections. They are investment poses because they will be used again and again and again. These poses are available right now at the StoRin booth at the  Pose Fair. Have you been there yet? No? Well, get moving!!!

With Love & Squalor

So, is With Love & Squalor a great name for a pose store or what? It’s says melodrama that should be serialized on afternoon TV – and you know that any soap star worthy of the name has a repertoire of dramatic poses. And soap stars worthy of daytime Emmys have natural looking dramatic poses – and Love & Squalor is Daytime Emmy material. I had never heard of the store before the Pose Fair – which highlights the value of these fairs for shoppers and creators – bringing in new customers and introducing new stores and raising funds for charity on top of that. That’s a win-win-win situation.

Imperially Elegantly Peachy

I love this new blouse from Kunglers. What’s not to like? It has a delightfully cinched waist with a gorgeous belt. Incidentally, the skirt comes with the same belt in case you want to wear a different blouse or wear this blouse tucked in. It’s got lovely full sleeves with sheer fabric. It’s finished with gorgeous satin ribbon on the edgess – the bottom, the sleeves and the collar. Best of all, I love the print – a chocolately brown with flowers and leaves in olive and a lovely rosy peach. It’s yummy and isn’t it great that Kunglers produced it in four other colors as well.
