Play That Funky Music

Wednesday night’s MDR Studio party theme was Play That Funky Music and so I needed a great dance dress that recalled the bright spirit and joy of Funk. This Vertical dress in citrus from Adam and Eve fit the bill nicely – it’s sheen reminiscent of the 70’s love affair with shiny fabric/ With a contemporary flair to the skirt and up to the minute accessories from Earthtones and DeLa, I felt I could have that funkadelic spirit and stay in my own time, so to speak.  I could wear an outfit, not a costume.

Luv Chocolate

Wandering the forest last night, this wonderful chocolate sculptie jacket tossed on top of a melon cami kept me comfortably warm. Brown is a hot trend this spring – a popular neutral and with the popularity of tribal prints it’s finding its way into nearly every wardrobe. Some people jokingly say brown is the new black.

Well, I would like to argue for brown being the new black and the old black. It’s a softer tone, less hard, less stark and much more flattering against your skin. When choosing a top to wear with this chocolate skirt and sweater, I tried on pink, blue, yellow, cream, black and melon. I went with the melon, but I could have easily worn any of the other colors. Better yet, those colors next to brown look richer than when they are next to black. Next to black, they will look brighter – and be less flattering and look cheaper. So, what are you waiting for? Get some chocolate in your life.

Hot Night in Havana

Blue pencil skirt dress

It was a hot night in Havana last night so I threw on this cool silk number in an bright electric blue and added a pair open toe sandals. There’s nothing like tight little skirt skimming your hips to show off your rumba. The dress, Lovinda, by premier vintage revivalist Ivalde, is a perfect figure-hugging dream. Unfortunately, the skirt is not modifiable, so for those of us with the intermittent skirt glitch, it’s not always wearable. Still, it’s worth doing Edit Appearance 6-7 times, when such a great dress will finally rez.

Belted In

by Cajsa Lilliehook

I have been itching to post about these luscious pants from LeeZu Baxter for awhile now. I like babydoll dresses and think they are cute, but nothing seems more feminine to me that clothing that accentuates the waist. I am sure my love of vintage styles is as much for the way they define and flatter the figure as for the rich and luscious fabrics of the past. Most pants are designed to emphasize bootie, but these pants give the waist some love.

With all the different colored belts, I could choose any blouse, but went for the faded rose color – a color that flatters nearly every complexion. The blouse is sheer and sexy and I might wear it alone for some occasions, but for wandering and exploring the grid – out and about among strangers, I took the safe route and wore a lacy bra underneath. My partner Maht had one comment, “Digital prude!!!”  I should have told him that I was wearing PornStar Hi-Tops. : )

Starry Night Romance

Lady Thera's Starry Night

Posted by Cajsa Lilliehook

My partner and I had a date last night and since he has been away for a week, i wanted a special dress and know he always likes my dresses from Art & Fashion. I knew he would love this one because he was going to get if for me for my birthday, but i had already purchased it.

If you don’t know Lady Thera Taurog’s work, you are in for a treat. Taking inspiration from great artist like Van Gogh, as in this dress, but also Monet, Cezanne, Magritte and Kandisky to name just a few, Lady Thera creates incredible fabrics by reimagining some of their great works. A lesser artist might clone stamp selections of the original art, but if you look at this dress or any of her others, you can see that she recreates the work – in new and beautiful homages to the original.

Now I have never asked her, but I assume Lady Thera likes to dance because she designs ideal dresses for dancing. The flexi-prims are soft and flowing, generously distributed and spaced artfully to give discreet flashes of thigh while you dance. Her dresses are designed with such craft that they retain their flow and soft romantic feeling while you dance.

The dress comes with an alternate top for more casual wear and with gloved sleeves as well. I combined it with dark blue shoes from Aphrodite Creations to match the dark blue in the bodice and a pair of long dangling earrings from Untone.

You can see more photos of the dress at my Flickr. Closer snap of the bodice and earrings as well as style notes after the jump.

Defiant: Stiletto Moody Photo Contest

Posted by Cajsa Lilliehook

About 10 PM last night a stray thought reminded me of the Stiletto Moody photo contest and I told Maht my partner that the deadline must be coming up. We dither a bit and then look at the note and it said submit by April 27th. Maht decided to skip the contest, but I decided to scramble and try to get something in by midnight.

I only have one pair of Stiletto Moody shoes, having fallen for their retro pop print and bold look hard enough that I splurged on them despite moaning about the price. The first time I wore them, however, I discovered why people are so willing to pay high prices for the Stiletto Moody shoes. First, the walk sounds that come with the shoes are natural and well-modulated, not too loud, disruptive and annoying. I am always stripping walk sounds out of shoes because their sound is too loud, but these were just right. Also, unlike many walk sound scripts, these actually stopped walking when I did. I know, shocking! Second, they fit on first try and needed no adjustments. That’s not going to make me any more able to buy dozens of the Stiletto Moody shoes, but it does make me willing to buy ones that really take my breath away and way too many of the shoes are breath-takingly beautiful.

I could not have chosen a worse time to do a shoot, i was still a bit dizzy and seasick from visiting the Escher Relativity House. A great place to visit, wouldn’t want to live there. Even cropping the photo brought back that dizzy feeling. Escher Relativity House

So, in a mood, I decided to shoot photos that reflected that mix of defiance and yuck that I was feeling and sat myself down on the splash rock in the bay outside the studio and hauled out some lightning and twiddled with the Environment Editor to get some appropriate weather and dropped my 2 entries in @ 11:59 – a second to spare. Are they winning entries? Not likely, but even so, they certainly did capture my mood at the moment and that was the contest theme.

Frilly, feminine, pink…I love it and paired these incredible shoes from Digit Darkes. I always feel happy when I wear these shoes. They’re called Marie Antoinette, but that’s a mistake. Wearing these doesn’t make you feel headless, just lighter than air.

Irises by Lady Thera

Lady Thera's Water LilliesFebruary 20th-

There are dozens of creative, innovative designers in Second Life but there is only one Lady Thera Taurog. Lady Thera designs clothes that incorporate textures inspired by great masterpieces of the world’s finest aritists. This dress is inspired by the iris paintings of Vang Gogh. Lady Thera doesn’t just copy a texture square and paste it into her clothing texture, she reimagines the texture and incorporates it into the gown with innovation and imagination.

As a bonus, Lady Thera’s flexi textures such as her skirts are amazing. They float, they sway, the move naturally as your body moves. Lady Thera is the sort of designer who once you own one of her items, you will want to own all of them…and luckily, she has her entire collection for sale in a box….though I noticed that far to late to benefit from the discount.
