Why Hades Kidnapped Her

posted by Gidge Uriza

When I visited Chic Boutique again after their re-opening, I headed straight to their swimsuits and lingerie, two areas they where they truly produce unique pieces.  I already own most of their swimsuits, but I spied Persephone and had to pick it up for a more elegant swimsuit option.

Let’s face it. None of us really have to work at picking up swimsuits which cover up our flaws – any flaws we have are intentional.  We are none of us, pixel girls, cursed with our grandmothers cankles or tummies which won’t mind after childbirth.  So then – the choice becomes, what are you saying with the swimsuit you choose to wear? I think sometimes that showing less in this perfect world can sometimes say more – don’t you think? Continue reading

Brrr, it got chilly last night!

In an amazing turnaround, the temperature dropped last night so quickly that I almost turned on my heat. Then I had a conversation with myself that went more of less like this:

Heat in July? Are you nuts? But it’s soooo cold! So put on a sweater, silly! oh, yeah!

Funny how you forget those handy dandy sweaters after you move them into the bottom drawer for the summer. Digging out a sweater in RL prompted me to dig out an SL sweater as well – to prevent any SL goose bumps marring my much beloved new skin from Curio. Continue reading

Never Too Chic To Sneak!

posted by Gidge Uriza

I’m sequestered this weekend (for the most part) doing the Blogher conference in SL! But I thought I’d take a few to share some FANTASTIC NEWS!! CHIC BOUTIQUE IS BAAACK! Did you know? I have always loved Chic Boutique, it’s one of those places that I have always steadfastly refused to take my friends – so that they couldn’t have the stuff I had haha. Yeah, I’m that jerk.

But you know how it is, you and your friends all shop at the same places and suddenly you are showing up to places in the same outift. It’s funny the first few times, and then it’s just ANNOYING. Chic Boutique has always been my ace in the hole, my “Oh I forget where I got this” place.  I went a few weeks ago and it was GONE! Under construction etc. Waaaaah! Continue reading

Caught in Amber

The fabric on this Mariah dress from Cachet is exquisite. The intricately worked deep gold pattern against the subtle rose background gives it such depth and style that it is irresistable. The lovely lace edging on the hem seems to move it toward romanticism, but it is drawn back by the sharp contrast of the simple lines of the bodice – successful straddling that divide between severe simplicity and romantic femininity. This sort of bold style is typical of Cachet and makes for fun and interesting outfits.

Punch Drunk or Full Moon?

So Gidge tells me my dress look it’s made of Swiss Cheese. I thought it looked like it had been made with a paper hole-puncher. Either way, I love the eccentric alignment and layering of a myriad of textures into this wildly detailed skirt prim. It moves and flows beautifully and is a perfect dress for parties. The sheer inventiveness of the textures and the joie de vivre in its design make it a winner in my book – even though now that Gidge mentions it…

Out of the box, it comes with a plunging top that is drop dead sexy. Wanting the people around me not to drop dead, I dug in my inventory for something a little less fatale. The Pixel Dolls corset in the Embers shade seemed a perfect match and adding a Persona sash in Orange gave it a touch of boldness that was echoed in the shoes and jewelry.

Poetic License

I found this fun little poem by Brooke Freeman on PoemHunter. It’s not one you would find in Tiger’s Bookstore for Rare Books, but I like it anyway. This is just a taste, to read the entire poem, go here.

I Know Fashion

I know fashion
Models posing, critics complaining
Celebs shopping, paparazzi stalking
I know fashion.

One of the bonuses of blogging about fashion is that I occasionally am offered a new outfit to review. AvaGardner Kung let me choose a couple outfits from Kungler’s to review, including this outfit called New College. It includes the brown tank, cream print top on the jacket layer, glitch pants, a prim skirt and a prim scarf. I am not wearing the scarf because I wanted to wear this Bishwear hair that would have hidden most of it anyway. Since the outfit is named New College, I decided to head to a nearby bookstore.

Grape Drape

There’s the scent of roses in the air – yellow, lemony roses carried by the breeze from the church down the street. It made me want to put on something floral and summery and I thought of this dress right away. From Bianca Foulon, the draping dress in grape is a floral confection with a full skirt tiered by a black lace wrap. I hesitated to wear it before because the neck prim seemed a bit to high and too snug, making me feel like tugging on my collar. I decided to leave off the neck prim this time and wear Japancakes magnificent Wild Petal Scarf. The scarf comes with a color change script and is one of those must-have accessories that can make a dozen outfits zing.

We Should Be Dancing

We should be dancing…and we will be tonight at MDR Photo Studio, a bash to celebrate our first six months. To celebrate, we will be giving away four photo sessions to lucky guests. Since I won’t have much time to get ready before the party, I thought I would choose my outfit this morning and decided to go with a few things I love.  For as many times as they have appeared in one color or another, regular readers know I love, luv, lurve the Trixie Cami from Celestial Studios. Feeling in the pink, so to speak, I chose the pink one, Smooch. Continue reading

I Louvre It

posted by Gidge Uriza

Design constraints being what they are, I’m always charmed when I run into something different in the world of clothing. Whether it’s construction, texture, or a combination of the two – it’s fun to see how creative people can be within the contraints of PS and The World.

This dress from Cachet caught my eye on my first trip to the store. One of a series – I loved the glowing texture which seems to radiate warmth and shine. It was difficult to pick a color – but I chose Jodie at the Louvre and packed up my new purchase. Continue reading
