Quicklook: Wetherby's

posted by Gidge Uriza

It’s a quicklook at one of my favorite cocktail dress dress creators. WETHERBY’S.

As always, paring one of her lovely gem colored dressed with snappy shoes she’s got bargains, and midnight mania and a fun freebie available at the store. Continue reading

That's some skirt

The new skirt from LeeZu – or actully, pants as she named the Mia Corset Pants, is one hot look that I think would be hard to replicate in real life. Of course, who needs to? It’s a high-waisted skirt with lots of ruffles that is open down the side.  I paired it with a LeeZu top – not any of the ones pictures, but a top actually designed to go with some short. The curve of the top is a perfect line with the top of the skirt – so they may not be pictured together, but they coudl be made for each other.

Chinoiserie

This gorgeous dress is called Chinoiserie and is from Icing. I had styled it a few weeks ago, when it was newly released, for a shoot for Second Style. But the vagaries of SL intervened and the reporter moved on from the magazine. So, no Second Style moment of glam for the dress and me. Oh well! To pay homage to what “might have been.” I have shot the photos on the white background with the Caliah Lyon windlight settings just so we all can pretend.

SwanSong inspires Zaara

A beautiful, though sorrowful, event is going on – the literal SwanSong of the Black Swan sim. Like other Rezzable sims that all of us have loved, it will be leaving us shortly. But, it’s going out in glory with a SwanSong of artistic inspiration and design – a sale of skin, clothing, jewelry and even some houses inspired by Black Swan sim and the the elements. This glorious dress is Zaara Kohime’s inspired homage to the sim.

It's a New Day

So I can show off another Modern Gypsy outfit. Seriously, I know this is the third in as many days, but I love them and didn’t really pay attention when shooting. With this one, I love the new silhouette he is creating. It’s so much fun to see people working with sculpties to give our clothing more options as far as fit and shape. This loosly fitting shift dress is a wonderful demonstration of how sculpties are changing SL fashion.

Sex With Prims

Now that I caught your attention, I am referring to the sex with prims Wild Orchid hairstyle from Exile that you can get in the store while waiting for room to enter Hair Fair. Whilst waiting for SL to decide that I can log in, I thought I might share this delightful hair style and truly, what is more sexy that some disarray.

B&W, Braids & the Hottest Shoes Evah!!!

I recently found a couple of darling black and white dresses, both heavily influenced by vintage styles, both from relatively under-blogged stores and oddly enough, I wore my hair in braids with both of them, though totally by accident. What was not an accident was my choice of shoes – the hottest shoes ever, ever, evah! But first, here’s a lovely black and white pop print from Lost Dreams with the useful and descriptive name Retro Dress.

This dress also has a pop print though the shape is a good decade older. It’s name is Delana Kisses, an unhelpful name unles you think those teardrop shapes remind you of Hershey’s Kisses or something. This is from ROC.

Marketing Matters

Coco & Co. Tailleur Romy

I admire clothing designers. I have no idea how they have the patience to match seams and the control to do the fine detail work. Even though I understand the technical aspect of how clothes are made, it doesn’t matter. In addition to technical knowledge, skill, imagination and creativity, I utterly lack on essential ingredient and that is patience. I could no more spend hours on a drawing than I could climb Mount Everest. I can however, shoot a photo and even get rid of those white lines as needed to make an alpha cutout for a floor stand. So, typically I assumed that if the alpha displays in a store were poorly done (something I could do) then the clothes would be poorly done as well (something I could not do.)

Coco & Co Chausettes en Dentelle et Noir

However, today I was in a store that had clothes based on Chanel designs, clothes made with me in mind. Tweedy, nubby knits, tailored jackets, system skirts, all my fashion loves wrapped up together. The alpha textures displaying the clothing, however, were terrible. But, oh I did want the clothing. So…I put out a plurk question for designers asking if I was wrong to assume bad alpha displays = bad clothing and though there was some belief that what is worth doing is worth doing well (yes!) that in all honesty, my assumption was wrong and that the only way to tell was to buy something. So… I bought the least expensive outfit.

Coco & Co Ensemble Chemesier Caramel et Jupe Culottes

And the edges were perfect! Seams were matched! It was everything I hoped it would be and oh, no, I spent too much money. Here are three of the outfits I picked up – inspired by real life designs and absolutely scrumptious.

How to Avoid Ugly White Edges on Your Alpha Textures: There’s a handy-dandy tutorial by Robin Wood on how to make an alpha channel. The Solidify filter that makes it easy to have nice clean edges is free and can be downloaded from Flaming Pear here.  To be honest, there have been stores I have not purchased tempting items from because of bad alpha displays. The only reason I made the purchases today was that I was assured that it did not necessarily mean the clothes were bad. However, no one was going to guarantee they would be good since those kind of problems can mean not caring about details.

Quick Look – Rebel Hope

I ran over to check out the 1920’s Berlin build and when I popped in, I saw that we were asked to dress for the period. I have folders inside folders inside folders in my inventory and in my Clothing Folder, there is a Vintage folder and inside that there is a Twenties folder. So I popped this on and was ready to go.

In the Summer, In the City

When it gets hot and the sun beats down on the asphalt, it’s time to break out the sunglasses and bright colors. The bright colors add zest and energy to combat the enervating heat and the sunglasses make the bright glare bouncing off the sidewalks bearable. White, such as in the jacket, is the necessary color of the season – brightening your look and reflecting the light and heat away from you. Dressing for summer heat is always fun because it demands your brightest brights and lets you shine. For example, the FAB.PONY dress above is the brightest blue or the KA Creations dress below, both accented with white accessories.
