In the Valley of the Kings

Among my most unique pieces of jewelry is a heavy ornate Egyptian Revival necklace with the head of King Tut made of bakelite. Both bakelite and King Tut arrived on the scene in 1922 and much of the jewelry of the later Egyptian Revival combined both of them.  Admiring the Digital Alchemy event at Kings Rezzable, I was reminded more of the Egyptian Revival than anciant Egypt and that is as it should be – that was when Egypt was its most fashionable. That’s why Inorite’s classic bob is the perfect hairstyle – incorporating the modernism of the 1920’s with the Egyptian Revival aesthetic.

Grown-Up Gingham

We are so used to seeing gingham in table cloths and children’s clothes we forget how sophisticated it can look. The  designer of Anuenue has no such preconceptions though and boldly produced several pair of ginghams for grownups including this magnificent blue and brown gingham milled-cotton pair of pants.  Adding a baby blue camisole from Celestial Studios and a lovely cashmere jacket from Casa del Shai makes a casual, but fashionable outfit for shopping and girls’ night out.

Don't Tell Mama

Aemilia Case lifted me out of my pity party at being snowed in and unable to spend Christmas with friends as planned by asking for volunteers for a photo shoot. Considering I had been actually contemplating watching an NCIS marathon, I jumped at the chance to be on the other side of the camera. For the shoot I was given this Mein Herr outfit by Shai Delacroix of Casa del Shai that she is releasing today.

Yes, Sally Bowles!!! and to make it even more fun, all of us were posing on the cabaret chairs made by Luth Brodie of Reel Expression. She will be releasing two 12-pose chairs and 12 standing poses so all of us can release our inner Sally and strut the stage and was kind enough to gift all of us posers with a set.

Bare Rose Challenge #6

Oh, I do love skating. We had this special snow shovel that worked sort of like a push broom that we would use to clear the ice in front of the house for skating. Dad messed about with a floor polisher to make it an ice smoother for those winters when the lake froze on a windy day (bumpy ice makes for bad skating). We would string Christmas lights round a big cleared square of ice and run a loudspeaker down from the house. Then Dad would build a big bonfire on the ice and we would  roast hot dogs and marshmallows and skate and ice dance for the 3-4 hours it would take for the bonfire to melt through the ice and fall into the lake.  I spent hundreds of hours on the ice and in all that time never once did I wear a pair of ice skates as improbably sexy hot as these new skates from Bax Coen.  Of course, no jacket of mine was a fancy and outright impractical as this jacket from Bare Rose either – it was too cold for such silliness. Thanks be that Second Life winters are more forgiving.

To Cleave or Not to Cleave

Chai Double Shot with Cleavage

Oh, such decisions we face when donning the new Chai Double Shots skin. Not only are there several makeup options, but each option comes with 4 basic choices, freckles or not and cleavage or not. The last is a new one and had  me in a quandary asking whether to cleave or not to cleave. Is it nobler to to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous flatchestedness or take bosoms against a sea of troubles and by shading and highlights end them?

Chai Double Shot without Cleavage

Chai Double Shot without Cleavage

To cleave, to sag no more and by cleaving  we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks of gravity that flesh is heir to. To cleave to inflate, to shade perchance to dream of bosoms, aye, there’s the tit.For in that cleavage of D cups what dreams may come when we have stuffed our mortal bazongas.

Oh, Will, I do apologize.

It's All Golden

Shai Delacroix knows how to texture dresses so they look wonderful on you. She adds shadows, contours and shading so the dress is not just fitting your body, but it also looks like it’s fitting your body.  Her clothes are a dream to photograph because they are never flat and lifeless. Today, I am wearing her gold Aemillia dress and feel like a million bucks.

Shai Silver

Is there anyone comparable to Shai Delacroix in shading textures for form-fitting, curve-hugging, body-kissing sex appeal? Maht calls one of her dresses the Ass Dress and certainly my bum looks better in that dress than any other. This one has a pleated skirt which precludes the kind of cupping closeness that the Ass Dress employs, but then look how this one hugs the torso, curving and swerving with your curves and swerves snugging as tight as silk can snug.

Siobhan del Shai

It’s been a long dry spell for us Casa del Shai addicts but the new season brings us some new fashions that have that unmistakable Shai Delacroix texturing mastery.

The dress, Siobhan, comes in 4 color options, including this orange tartan. It’s system clothing making it a perfect dress to wear around the grid with a jacket like this lovely leather jacket from Cachet.

Oranges Are Good For You

I love the fruit and the color orange. Sadly, I became allergic to oranges a few years ago and can only enjoy the fruit in SL now, but the color is still a pleasure in both worlds. With oranges this brililant and rich – all I can say is orange you happy I took pictures?

Last night I had a lovely conversation with Abraxxa Anatine, the creative force at EarthStones, who was looking for a skirt featured in a post a while back.  She generously gave me some of her most recent releases including the luscious Fire/Silver version of her Crystal Elements necklaces she released yesterday. It comes with two pieces – a shorter necklace that attaches to the spine – where my top’s collar attaches. Lovely, though, to have two options. As chance would have it, I had just bought this lustrously glossy orange shirt from Good Look Designs. Together, they look good enough to eat – so long as you haven’t any allergies.

Stardust Memories

Stardust Memories…

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Oh, that Hoagie Carmichael sure could write a great song, a timeless classic that will still be sung if and when we ever travel to the stars. This dress, Daphne Diamond, from Casa del Shai, has that same sort of classic timelessness. I can picture Greta Garbo sparkling in this, but I can also close my eyes and see Deanna Troi waltzing in it at some intergalactic ballroom.

What makes it a classic? The elegant simplicity of its lines, the subtle soft sensuous fabric, the always chic silvery gray color, and the way it clings and sways to the body. Then there is the simple and restrained embellishment of stardust on the skirt. It is a dress that could last forever. And oh….is it ever sexy.   Continue reading
