Baiastice is not the most expensive clothing store in Second Life® but it is costly enough that I do think about an outfit’s flexibility when I buy it. Can it be worn more than one way? If so, then I can mentally cut the cost in half, thirds or in this case, sixths. This one outfit, tossed about with other items in my inventory easily makes six different looks…and if I had more time, I probably could have done a few more. It’s been a long dry spell for us Casa del Shai addicts but the new season brings us some new fashions that have that unmistakable Shai Delacroix texturing mastery.
The dress, Siobhan, comes in 4 color options, including this orange tartan. It’s system clothing making it a perfect dress to wear around the grid with a jacket like this lovely leather jacket from Cachet.
Rockberry’s freebie Halloween dress, the Vamp Dress, doesn’t really have to be limited to Halloween. It has lovely design details like the belted corset which I would have loved to have on a separate layer. Of course, the batwing scalloping on the bodice is a bit witchy, but witchiness like vampishness are year round qualities.
One of my favorite groups is the Swedish group Hedningarna and one of my favorite songs of theirs is Räven. You can hear a clip here. I thought if it as soon as I put on the wonderfully luxuorious red fox jacket from bijou as the name translates to Fox Woman. The song is quite ferocious, so I left off the lower half of the fur coat, making it a jacket to wear with leather pants – much fiercer that way, I thought.

I was casting around for costume ideas last night, I got the brainstorm to go to Unique Needs. Now, I know it’s not a costume shop, it’s a clothing store for the BDSM subculture and has fashionable clothes for those shoppers. However, in my opinion, if you’re not part of a subculture and dress in the clothing of a subculture, that’s a costume. Besides, when I got there I discovered Unique Needs has a much broader range of clothing that I had assumed…including this romantic, frou-frou dress I am wearing today. Color me surprised and well, there again you see the danger of assumptions.

So, I totally owe the title for this post to Grady Echegaray from Strange Pixels who posted the quote in flickr’s comments on this photo. She was reminded of that hot, hot scene from the movie To Have and Have Not. This look is definitely hot sultry 1940’s – though the individual inspiration is more Burlesque than Bacall.
Cats and bats go together and not just phonetically. We didn’t need Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal of Catwoman to know that the relationship between Batman and the arch-villainess was complicated by unwilling and unwanted attraction. So, when I decided to bring out my Catwoman costume again, I also pulled out EarthStones brilliant Desmodus jewelry set – because wouldn’t Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman have worn it if she had the chance?
The new Billow Boots from Maitreya are a delightful re-imagined reachback to the 80’s. They seemed to demand something playful and impudent to match their mood. While shooting, I kept hearing that old, old song Wild Thing, you make my heart sing. You make everything…groovy.
You know what I said about being ware of Holiday-specific clothing that you cannot wear any other time of year? I could not resist taking a look round Trepid Station and must humbly confess that at one point I about jumped out of my skin. I won’t tell you where and why so you, too, can enjoy that shiver of fear without risk that makes such expeditions a delight. I was not frightened by poor Yorick there on the shelf, it was the more active ghosts that bothered me. I was a very chic explorer in the Fitzgerald dress from Cachet a bold enough green to shake the cobwebs out of the attic.
