My Thanksgiving is Perpetual

It was Thoreau who referred to his Thanksgiving as being perpetual. I think it’s meant to point out we should really always be glad for what is good in our lives.  I try to be. It’s hard to go zen and mumble your thanks all the time plus it’s boring. But once in a while, it’s good to realize just how very good you’ve got it. Continue reading

Good News

Snapshot_001

I was very happy to read an update from Ziki Questi with the good news that Kylie Jaxxon is alive and as well as can be expected when living with leukemia. She is getting back on her feet and is deeply appreciative of all the community has done to keep her sim going during her absence. The fundraiser will continue as it is to raise funds for The American Cancer Society. Please read the update yourself for the good news.

Snapshot_008

I do not know Kylie Jaxxson, but I love her sim. From it, I imagine her as someone who finds beauty in simplicity, in the raw and unadorned flotsam of life. I imagine a kind of serenity coupled with an ease with herself, that feeling comfortable in your own skin acceptance that is so rare. I could be wildly off the mark, but I don’t think so. I think we reveal ourselves when we create and landscaping is one of the most elemental forms of creation. There is something so relaxed and comforting in the simple tableaus at The Trace Too that I feel they must be drawn from the designer’s inner self.

The Owls Have It

Emery released pencil skirts and sweaters at Collabor88 this month. Both are great separates for mixing and matching, but the pencil skirts in particular are investment pieces. They are beautifully crafted as you can see in the picture below where I am sitting and you can see that the interior is lined so there is no alpha messing up the picture.  Continue reading

When a Picture Is Not Enough

There were a few dresses at Fashion For Life that really needed more than a picture. A thousand words might help, but I think in this case a video that can be made easily with the help of Video production company Toronto is a better option. These two dresses from Likka House are great fun costumes. They would justify planning your own circus party – Look at the carousel horses. When you are running out and about you can turn them off so you won’t lag.

Ghee’s Gown of a Different Color and the Laced Up shoes are kind of crazy wonderful creations that reminds me of that old group, Not Possible In Real Life. Do you remember the group? I loved it and miss it quite a bit – it was a celebration of all that is special and unique about Second Life – just as these outfits are.

Forgive my poor videography, my computer is old and tired and when I do a video it crawls in a corner, curls into a fetal position and whimpers.

Babydoll No More

apr19_003

I love many things about this dress from bubble that’s on sale at the Chic Limited Cherry Blossoms event, though it began as a babydoll before I lowered the skirt to my waist. I am never a big fan of babydoll dresses and often try that, but it doesn’t always work as well as it did with this dress. As you can see, this dress comes with a band that anchors the skirt so just increasing its size a bit made it look very natural at the natural waist. This lets me really enjoy the wonderful sense of playfulness in the dress design. I love how the fabric choices almost suggest a wall treatment with the more subdued black on black pattern meeting the vertical stripe pattern “wainscoting” and the cherry blossom border print “chair rail.” It’s cute and clever and makes a gorgeous dress.

Mesmeric Fingers Softly Touch

Redgrave Fairy Skin Avie 08 Snowstorm_001

Still, is the bustle in the Brook —
Sealed are the spicy valves —
Mesmeric fingers softly touch
The Eyes of many Elves —

Emily Dickinson, Poem XLIX

Redgrave Fairy Skin Avie

Emily Dickinson wrote about elves more than once. She truly saw the world in a grain of sand and was inspired by the natural world and by her fantasies. Emilia Redgrave has been inspired by fantasy lately. Whether you look at her dramatic Trinity skins inspired by vampires or her rugged action hero King skins for men complete with blood and bruises or her latest release for Vanity Universe Skin Fair, Avie, the Fairy skin, these skins are important contributions to the fantastical lives of Second Life residents. Just as Trinity is the quintessential vampiress, Avie perfectly expresses the naturalistic world of elves and fairies with her fresh, glowing healthy skin and that healthy outdoor blush on her cheeks.

You can get nearly every thing I am wearing right now at DISCO DEALS for ridiculous cheap, including this AWESOMESAUCE skin from TULI.

If you are a fancy girl like me, one of the unsung joys of Disco Deals this month, in addition to all the great deals on awesome stuffs, is that Ibizarre (maker of the gorgeous little black dress above WHICH YOU NEED) has out a palette of free nail polish.

360 Degrees of High Fashion

Scribble Saturday Morning_006.jpg

As a devoted Project Runway fan who has never missed an episode, I can remember dozens of outfits that impressed me coming down the runway only to crash into the Valley of Bad Design once the model turned and walked back to the curtain. A few episodes back Tim Gunn proffered some of his best advice ever, reminding the designer that good design is 360 degrees – looking good from all angles. Well, some designers he does not have to remind about that are Royal Blue’s Marni Grut and Kenzie & Co.’s Kenzie Craven. These clothes were created by designers so cognizant that good design looks great from the back and sides as well as the front, that I decided to showcase this look from the back.

Scribble Saturday Morning_004.jpg

The Kenzie & Co. Zipper Racerback is the most obviously designed with attention to the back – but look at the lovely Jodhpurs on Crack from Royal Blue – they make your bum look good and the houndstooth detailing adds interest coming and going. The photos were taken at The Looking Glass – a new build from Marcus Inkpen

Guest Stylist Amase Levasseur

Amase Levasseur_009.jpg

Amase Levasseur is another volunteer guest stylist. I met her when she came with her partner to get some pictures taken of them and she quickly became a favorite. She is one of those people who is enjoying SL to the fullest – and always willing to come for some fun times. Here’s what she had to say about the guest styling post, “Caj and Gidge among others have encouraged me to do some mixing and matching and playing with accessories to make outfits my own instead of just “off the rack” in both SL and RL. It’s much more fun now to figure out just the right mix to claim or own a look rather than it wearing me!”

We stopped by the gas station at Virtual Decay for some photos.
