In the year 2525

So Gidge said I look like a futuristic rock chick in this dress – I suppose it’s the epaullets. I wonder if they are properly called epaullets when they are on a floral print drop dead gorgeous dress and not on a uniform.  I will call them epaullets because it sounds so much more official than doodads and much more attractive than exo-skeleton or shoulder pads on the outside or wing-dings. Whatever you decided to call them, you ahve to admit they give this dress a marvelous profile.

Tree Hugging

Looking at the clear cut can be pretty sad, but over the hill there’s replanting. In fact, you can help support reforestation by going to the Happy Clam Island Reforestation Project and hugging a tree. Hugging a tree for 20 to 30 minutes while you are going through your day’s notes and message will pay to replant one tree. Or, you can just pay a tree directly. Just go and find a healthy uncut tree and give it a hug. It will thank you. And that should make you happy as a clam. Continue reading

Halfway Up the Hindu Kush

And i love you
For showing me the view
From halfway up the hindu kush…katie melua

I went looking for the Taj Mahal the other night and actually found a house for sale called the Taj Mahal. It wasn’t what I was looking for though. While i didn’t find the Taj, at the SL Botanical Garden I found this lovely building that suited my shooting mood, even though it looks more Arabic than Indian. I was wearing the lovely tie dye blouse from Zaara and wanted a special setting to complement the rich and ornate textures that make her clothing so unique. Incidentally, this is one hot little blouse – and I don’t know which to emphasize, hot or little. Continue reading

Glam Tank Cubed

AM Radio does such amazing builds: Far Away, the temporary Refuge and Prospect, The Quiet and Tusk. I have been wanting to shoot something at Tusk for a while and decided to put an outfit together with the colors of the desert. When I bought this new tank from MichaMi, I knew it would be the base for an outfit to shoot at Tusk.

Milla Michinaga, whose fashion blog was an inspiration for It’s Only Fashion, has become a content creator, opening her new store MichaMi on Rue d’Antibes. The content is spare, but excellently made and focuses on wardrobe foundation pieces such as this Glam Tank in Gold. It’s beautifully made and at 50L, you can get one in every color. I thought that a brown skirt would do well with it and pulled out this wonderful Tiered Skirt from Ce Cubic Effect, a sculpted skirt that keeps its form when you sit or lie down. To top it off, I used the jacket layer belt from Zaara’s Calungate Orange dress. I knew those belts would come in handy.

Mix to Match

If you noticed Second Life® tilting slightly the other day, that was when Zaara released her newest design, a long dress called Calangute that comes with absolute outrageous belting on the jacket layer and everyone rushed to get their own. These belts will get their use. I made a copy and pasted it into my belts folder so I remember to use them with other outfits. This is the chocolate version of the dress and it comes with a lovely long textured skirt that I was not in the mood to wear. I wanted knee length but I remembered that I had a dress from DP Serendipity that was a very similar color and sure enough, the skirt from that dress was a perfect match. I used the other dress’s pants layer to make sure the seams and highlights lined up. I was more than happy with the result.

Another photo and style notes after the cut.

This Dress Is Made of Glitter

What to wear when you want to be all dressed up but a formal ball gown is just a bit over-the-top?  I think you can’t go wrong with this dress from Chambre to Chocolat. Eshi Otawara is justly famous for her amazing fishhook dress and the incredible art/fashion installation the Death of a Phoenix, but if you think only of those works, you might skip her store thinking she’s out of your budget range and maybe a bit too avant garde. But that would make you miss so much as she has a fabulous talent for creating ethereal and wearable fashion.

Take this dress, aptly named This Dress Is Made of Glitter, which comes in five glorious colors (blue, gold, hot pink, violet and yellow) and is a favorite in-between dress. The kind you pull out in-between casual and formal, for when you are going to a party and aren’t sure whether it’s formal or not. You don’t want to show up in a floor-length ball gown, but you don’t want to look underdressed. You need and in-between dress and this is it. You can see more pictures of it on my flickr.
