Rock Me 2Nite

posted by Gidge Uriza

Maht celebrated his RL Bday a few days ago by holding a small listening party for his friends, where we gathered and enjoyed his music.  It was a great opportunity to break out this piece from Kungler’s, which has retro-store chic written all over it.  My grandma’s pearls with a big flowery broach added to an elegant shrug jacket top off the form fitting pinstripe pants – to me this outfit brings a modern cut to a 50s pansuit.  As though I were wealthy, walked into Chanel and said.”I saw this pantsuit in Time Magazine from 1952 – can you spin me out a modern version?” Continue reading

Voyageur à la Mode

Traveling in style is a fashion opportunity that should not be missed, in RL or SL. Today in RL my company will have a limo pick me up for transport to the airport – where I’ll be whisked off to destinations 1000 miles away. Continue reading

Patriotica Part Eight – Patriotic Vampire

posted by Gidge Uriza

SYD Designer Teagan saw my Patriotica series and hit me with her Vampire Skin – with Patriotic makeup. While I was waiting for Cajsa to be ready to shoot, while I was ambling around the grid shopping and meandering I decided to to juxtapose the goth-vampire look with a very girly BRIGHT dress from <3 Cupcakes and some uber high-fashion shades I just picked up at Tesla.

Punch Drunk or Full Moon?

So Gidge tells me my dress look it’s made of Swiss Cheese. I thought it looked like it had been made with a paper hole-puncher. Either way, I love the eccentric alignment and layering of a myriad of textures into this wildly detailed skirt prim. It moves and flows beautifully and is a perfect dress for parties. The sheer inventiveness of the textures and the joie de vivre in its design make it a winner in my book – even though now that Gidge mentions it…

Out of the box, it comes with a plunging top that is drop dead sexy. Wanting the people around me not to drop dead, I dug in my inventory for something a little less fatale. The Pixel Dolls corset in the Embers shade seemed a perfect match and adding a Persona sash in Orange gave it a touch of boldness that was echoed in the shoes and jewelry.

Halston Reborn – As a Frenchwoman

Review Guidelines on Link AboveAt The Chateau

posted by Gidge Uriza
I slipped into Elemiah designs after seeing a cute babydoll dress on Freestyle and I wanted to see more. It’s possible that I have an unnatural affinity for the modern, feminine lines drawn by Halston back in the day – I had a bachelor uncle who was a huge fan – but I immediately saw a comparison in Elemiah’s designs with the late great designer.

Far from being just an SL version of his designs, what I find at her shop is a modern sensibility to the style that Halston pioneered. Delicate but modern, clean lines with a feminine flair. Even her frillier femme pieces are still flavored with a hint of modern line. Continue reading

Grape Drape

There’s the scent of roses in the air – yellow, lemony roses carried by the breeze from the church down the street. It made me want to put on something floral and summery and I thought of this dress right away. From Bianca Foulon, the draping dress in grape is a floral confection with a full skirt tiered by a black lace wrap. I hesitated to wear it before because the neck prim seemed a bit to high and too snug, making me feel like tugging on my collar. I decided to leave off the neck prim this time and wear Japancakes magnificent Wild Petal Scarf. The scarf comes with a color change script and is one of those must-have accessories that can make a dozen outfits zing.

I Met You On Somebody's Island

“You Thought You Had Known Me Before

I brought you a crate of Papaya

It waited all night by your door……..”

                   – Steve Miller

Oh my god did he really just say he brought over some papaya trying to make time with the ladies?

After shooting for a million hours the other night, I slipped into a cute new dress and Cajsa immediately said “Let’s shoot this one.”

Sweet. Continue reading

June in June

Mallory Cowan of Laqroki sent me samples of her newest hair with the oh-so-timely name of June. Redhead that I am, I gravitated to the Hot Red. Yes, it is hot. Normally, I would tint it just a bit darker. I usually purchase her Mahogany hair and add red to it. However, for the purpose of this review, I shot it as it is. The color is rich and vibrant, a bright red, but not at all brassy or orangey. It’s a red I am comfortable wearing. The headband is black and consists of three prims with a black fabric texture. It is not color-scripted, but as you can see, it was quite simple to add a dash of green to the texture to accent my dress. Like all her hair, I didn’t have to adjust it one millimeter to fit my head, though of course that won’t be true for all avatar shapes.

What I love about Laqroki hair is clearly evident in this and the photo of the back after the cut. Ms. Cowan thinks about more than how the hair looks, she thinks about how it interacts with the avatar. I don’t know how she does it, but with Laqroki hair, you seldom see a sheaf of hair appearing mysteriously from the middle of your breast. As a photographer, I love that. I also love the luminescence of the hair. It makes it so  easy to work with lighting because the light doesn’t just get sucked into the hair and disappear. Continue reading

I Louvre It

posted by Gidge Uriza

Design constraints being what they are, I’m always charmed when I run into something different in the world of clothing. Whether it’s construction, texture, or a combination of the two – it’s fun to see how creative people can be within the contraints of PS and The World.

This dress from Cachet caught my eye on my first trip to the store. One of a series – I loved the glowing texture which seems to radiate warmth and shine. It was difficult to pick a color – but I chose Jodie at the Louvre and packed up my new purchase. Continue reading
