Because of THE MOTELS

I love THE MOTELS song Only the Lonely. The video reminds me of BLADE RUNNER though.

So when I put this outfit on and it reminded me of THE MOTELS and the video and then I was thinking about BLADE RUNNER………then I wanted to find someplace fun and weird to shoot this new release from BAIASTICE which is part of the new Fall collection. Continue reading

The Moon Is on Ice

sep08_007

The Sakura gown from Azul comes alive in the moonlight. This is a dress that needs to be seen to be truly appreciated. The flow of the fabric is slow and gentle, far from the windsock in a hurricane I usually end up with when playing with a flexi-prim.

The moon is on ice
It smiles from above
It lights up the night
And sends you its love
And sends you its love
In a small cafe
You said you were mine
The moon is on ice
Sitting alone
And love is the price
It won’t let you go

CIA

The final day of Modavia Fashion Week opened with the Dutch design house CIA from Ayla Strading in a joint presentation with Joy Laperriere of SHI. I am new to CIA and am thrilled with the introduction. I love the bright, saturated colors and definitely plan to pick up at least that black top with the floral embroidery.

SL Weekly Words Challenge: RIGHT AND WRONG

Is there a wrong way to wear a snake on your head? I don’t think so.  But as I was styling this new release from Wasabi Pills and playing around with colors etc, I kept thinking WHAT am I going to wear with a snake on my head? Continue reading

L'Abel

The first show on Tuesday was from Neferia Abel, showing her contemporary label L’Abel. I had computer issues during the show and only saw two of the outfits. Technically I saw several others but only the prims rezzed and all the system pieces remained gray. Of course, I was crashing like mad. I think SL was hinky, because then the sim crashed, giving me time to figure out which viewer to use for the rest of the day. I tried from the beginning Viewer 3.0, 3.0 Beta, Firestorm, Kirstens, Catznip and lastly Synchronicity and that one finally rezzed people’s clothing for me and let me snap pics without crashing. In fact, I only had one crash during the next three fashion shows.

AlaFolie1

Next up was A La Folie, The first shot is the designer Pixivor Allen. The collection is a range of romantic looks with vintage inspiration. There’s plenty of sparkle, too. If you watched Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this week, you learned that sparkle and bling are far, far different things and never the twain shall meet.

MiaMai02_009

One of the reasons I love Modavia Fashion Week is that the process of preparing a collection for a show is far different than preparing weekly or monthly releases. Releases can stand on their own and how one outfit relates to another is immaterial. A collection however demands that the pieces work together to form an integrated whole. Strangely enough, by adding the constraint of making the clothes work together as a while, we get more innovation and imagination from the designers, not less. Sometimes, it take limits to free the imagination. That’s why we often get such fresh and extraordinary designs in runway shows. The designers’ imaginations have been set afire by the need to create 12 designs that express a singular vision.

MiaMai_010
Monica Outlander, the genius behind MiaMai, is perhaps the best exemplar of this at work. Her runway shows are highly anticipated and filled to capacity because everyone knows it will be a show,  an extravaganza of art, music and design coming together synergistically.  Synergy is such an overused term, but only because people use it recklessly as though cooperation and coordination were synergy.

Modavia Fashion Week #13

FineSmith

Monday’s shows began with FineSmith with their trademark avant garde jewelry. The Noir collection is an intriguing combination futurism and the baroque. The actual metal pieces are highly stylized, clean-lined and futuristic, but they are coupled with lace collars that have a baroque sensibility in their lavish ornamentation.

modern gypsy

The runway shows got off to a great start with the fun and colorful Modern Gypsy collection for Modavia Fashion Week. I love Micah Kanto’s design aesthetic – which gives us new and innovative shapes, bold colors and forms while remaining versatile and wearable. Muuuuahhh!
