Merry Christmas, Baccara Rhodes

Baccara Rhodes_006

In Oregon, there are all sorts of buildings, streets and villages named after our pioneers. If we did that in Second Life, surely there would be many towns, sims and maybe even an ocean named after today’s guest stylist. Second Life launched on June 23, 2003 and just a little over a month later on July 10th, Bacarra Rhodes rezzed in-world for the first time.  In the book, Second Life: The Official Guide she is even designated The Grid Queen.

When I saw her gorgeous purple ball gown I wanted to shoot at Wanderstill on the Ode sim which reminds me so much of Monet with its lush abundance of flowers. I also used Elysium Elide’s windlight settings to give me that saturated rich purple sky.

Merry Christmas Alicia Chenaux

Alicia Chenaux_003

I met Alicia Chenaux on Plurk, though I had read her blog for a long time before that. I should say blogs since she has a fun journaling blog where she chronicles her Second Life adventures as well as her fashion blog. I first began paying attention to her blog when she began her 365 Project which was such a huge commitment. I don’t know if I would commit to blog for a full year even after blogging for four years. For me, it’s so much easier to do something than to say I will do something, because then I really have to. I admire people who have the will to make that kind of commitment up front. I also admire the kind of openness and vulnerability that journaling blogs require. It, too, requires a commitment beyond what I would do.

I was looking forward to seeing Alicia’s outfit because she’s a former model and I knew that work history would translate into an impeccable outfit that was perfectly fitted. And I was right from every Elikatira hair on her head to the GField shoes on her feet, everything is perfectly fitted. Her outfit seemed perfect for sightseeing and wandering the streets in the fashionable city of Venice which you can find on the Prada sim. I could see her modeling skills at work as she positioned herself on the dock by the gondolas while I was flailing around in the river after falling off the dock a few times. In fact, I had to run inside one of the stores and dry off while she patiently waited.

Malice Aforethought

dec19_002

This fabulously hot new gown from MiaMai is just a small part of her InMutatio collection that was released Saturday with an extravaganza that people are still talking about. This collection is Monica Outlander’s most exciting to date and there are options for fashionistas of all stripes. For the more sedate, there are two gowns, this Malice gown and its counterpart in ivory called Pure.

I wanted a setting that suited the powerful design in this dress so I headed off to Zone where the giants walk.

With Love Hunting

Dec 19_006

If you are on a budget for your Christmas spending and still want a luscious, sexy ballgown, you should spend a little time on the With Love Hunt and search at Vogue – where this gorgeous black lace gown is hiding, waiting for you to find it. It’s a yummy formal gown good for any dressy occasion – well, except for a White Ball, and easy on the pocketbook.

Merry Christmas, Reverie!

reverie_009

Reverie Boucher is a blog reader whom I met when she im’ed me with some good suggestions for outfits I might like to blog and introduced me to a store she liked in Second Life. Since then we have become friends and I have come to appreciate her suggestions as she has a great style of her own. Like me, she is happy to mix and match and showed that it todays’s outfit, taking the top of one dress from Baiastice and mixing it with a skirt to great effect.

The bold black lace and silver lines in this outfit made me want to shoot in China, though that alpha-ridden environment holds challenges for photos, but eventually everything was under control. Especially after she put on these hot shoes from N-Core!

It's Too Big

1216_006

Gidge has had been having me help around the store, hauling stuff over from the old one, dusting, doing some touch up on the walls where movers scraped the paint and helping with the unpacking. It’s a messy job with lots of running in and out of the building over to where her merchandise was piled up in the snow. It made sense to dress for the occasion in this warm and snuggly fleece from Aitui. I tossed on some old jeans from Zaara that I know are a few years old and all, but hey, when you are bending down and hauling crap around, you need comfortable jeans with some give, the kind of give that only comes from wearing them for a few years, right?

But then she traipses off to ride a pink turtle or pig or elephant or some such thing leaving me to manhandle the last few items into place. Seriously, did she think I could move that globe by myself? It’s Too Big!!! So, I got on the phone, so to speak, and called up Hybie who, good friend that she is, came over to lend a hand no questions ask. She helped wrestle that globe from the crate into the store and didn’t even complain about how cold she must have been feeling in those sandals. She was wearing the new dress from Maitreya. It was the first I had seen it in-world. It so lives up to expectations. As you can see, my feet were far more cozy in these wonderfully warm and dry boots from FIR & MNA.

Venezia

dec 16_006

I went to Venice last night and discovered there even more to the City if you walk behind the bridge. How is it that I have been there multiple times and not noticed anything past the tip of my nose? I was probably fixated on how cute my nose looked and could not see past. I wore a gorgeous dress that I popped on earlier when I went to the InMutio extravaganza. Do you always wear clothing by the creator whose show you are going to attend? I sometimes think about it, but generally don’t.  I generally focus on lowering my rendering cost so that I don’t spend so much energy on me that I don’t have any left for the models. With the fabulous backdrop necklace that comes with this sexy little dress from Baiastice, it’s not a low prim dress, but I just took it off and left it at home for the show.

Besides, doesn’t this dress just sizzle. It’s one of Sissy Pessoa’s Christmas Collection and I cannot wait to see the rest of the collection. I haven’t had a chance to look yet what with drooling all over the floor at the show yesterday and working on adding new blogs to Blogging Second Life and trying on white stuff for tonight’s White Ball and generally dawdling and frittering. If you need lessons in dawdling and frittering your time, I’m your girl.

InMutatio

InMutatio

If you even get a chance to attend a MiaMai show – whether a runway show or an exhibition – do whatever it takes to be free and online so you can go. She doesn’t just dress her models and have them walk down the runway to some techno and call it a day. Her shows are works of art in themselves. Today’s show, InMutatio, produced by Moravia Productions, was stunning – reminding people that the potential for great art in Second Life is limited only by our imagination. The show also featured the art of Del May and Marcopol Oh – artists whose work explores the same imaginative frontiers as Monica Outlander.

InMutatio

The show was produced in the old style of the Tableaux Vivant with model/actors in static poses with a short piece of poetry to read – each an act representing one of the cards of the Tarot, but also a meditation on metamorphosis. The show begins with the clear statement of intent:

This is the world where the human form is not fixed; it twists, teases and transforms.
This is the world of MIAMAI.
Earthly science has no home within these walls; strange chemistry is at play
That which God made will be unmade, and recreated in our own image.
Beauty will be broken, and that which is mundane shall not be allowed to stand.
When you are finally allowed to leave… will you also remain unchanged?

Merry Christmas, Samara!

dec12_006

Samara Barzane is a friend and fellow blogger (The 3 Fashionteers) who braved the dangers of volunteering to be a guest stylist. But you know, that’s one of the defining characteristics of Samara for me – she’s game to do anything. When there’s a roll call of people to volunteer, she steps forward.  I tp’ed her up to my platform to see her outfit and knew immediately where I wanted to shoot.

dec12_009

I saw that fabulous combination of the form-fitting cashmere sweater with the floaty sheer tulle skirt and the magnificent tights and immediately thought of China – the black and white sim. Setting windlight to Strawberry Singh’s fabulous Silver setting, I started snapping away.
