IRL my closet is well-organized. Dresses, blouses, skirts are in their sections and all sorted by color – a regular run of ROYGBIV rainbows. Shoes are on the rack. Purses stored in 4 marvelous IKEA shoe and sweater hanger storage shelves and scarves hung on rings on curtain rods on the wall. I try to do the same in Second Life with folders for blouses, dresses, etc. But then it all falls apart because I have one folder for my Review Copies. The thing is, if I put them into my regular inventory, I might forget they were review copies and not credit that in my style notes, so I drop them all in one mad, mad, mad, mad folder. I need a better system. Except, perhaps with a better system I would not have come up with this outfit that I put together by checking out items from stores I have not featured recently.

Fashion that gets your heart racing
I admit it, I love the Winter Collection from Micah Kanto. I have already posted several dresses from the collection and thought I had seen it all, and then this Sunday I go to see the runway show and was blown away by a second collection that was only released yesterday. This Fashion Monster collection continues the red, white and black color theme – but all in houndstooth fabrics formed into wild and extravagant shapes. This is an avant garde collection of winter wear and while it won’t be to everyone’s taste – it just suits mine to a T. You can see all the hallmarks of this collection in the Onyxia suit I am wearing. Bold use of houndstooth fabric, architectural embellishments such as the sweeping shoulder sculpts and bold shapes such as the stand up collar and the peplum.
Let's Misbehave
We’re all alone, no chaperone
Can get our number
The world’s in slumber–let’s misbehave!!!
There’s something wild about you child
That’s so contagious
Let’s be outrageous–let’s misbehave!!!
While MiaMai’s new Venom dress doesn’t make me feel particularly poisonous, I thought it is definitely hot enough to lead to temptation – so let’s misbehave.
Now & Then
This is my newbie self and yes, I was fortunate. When I entered Second Life, one of the first people I met was an SL mentor named Lilien Jewell who took it upon herself to ensure that I didn’t look like a noob for long. My 3rd day in SL I purchased the RaC (now LAQ) skin Amy – that she helped me choose and had a decent shape. The white skirt is the second purchase I made in Second Life – after the skin. The swimsuit I got a day later. I thought I was so clever putting a skirt over my swimsuit. The shoes were from Shiny Things. I think I was in SL six months before I knew there were more shoe stores than X3D (Digit Darkes), Shiny Things and Enkythings. This is me at about a month or so. It’s not my first hair which was Brittany from Bewitched, but I deleted that in an inventory purge long ago. You might note I had no jewelry. I really had none. It took me forever, it seems, to find jewelery stores that suited my taste. I searched for jewelry, but it was all too too too beauty pageant princess for me, so I just didn’t get any. From the first, I knew that I didn’t want bling. I also had no lashes. I didn’t even know they existed. I should add that I wore this outfit most of the time. It was my “go-to” outfit for the longest time.
My shape is shorter, with a larger waist and smaller breasts. My face is softer with more of a smile. I still don’t wear bling, and mixing and matching outfits is an everyday thing. I still wear that Mandy hair from Muism – though for this I am wearing a favorite from Amrita. The shoes are Maitreya which has become a favorite of mine for shoes. Back then, I might not have realized that I could wear my boots without the calf prims and would not have worn them because the calf prims intersect the pants. Now I wear jewelry almost all the time – and it’s my worst Second Life addiction.

Crazy Arms
One of the hallmarks of Paper Couture is bold design. Strangely enough, there’s just a bit of hedging the bet with this gorgeous Roaring Green Ruffles dress as they offer the sheer bodice in sheer black or sheer black with polka dots, but seriously, we have to choose the dots, don’t we? Without the dots, this is a lovely dress, with the dots, it’s a lovely and dashing dress. So let’s go for the Crazy Arms.
Trubble in Mind
Trouble in mind, I’m blue
But I won’t be blue always.
The sun is gonna shine in my backdoor, someday
If there were an award for most improved designer of 2009, it would have to go to Tracy Rubble of Trubble whose work has gone from textures that lacked detail to textures that have the sort of details that give depth and interest to the clothing. You can see that in the light and shadow of the skirt, the wrinkling shadows of the sash and in the overall quality of the entire dress. The dress is sleeveless, so being January, I added a little shrug from Cipher.
Hah! Someone turned the heat up so here you can see it without that jacket. Please note the lack of distortion in the bodice as the zebra print stretches over the breast. Also note how smoothly the seams are joined. By most improved, I don’t mean that she merely has become good, I mean she has adopted the skills and hallmarks of the best designers: good seam-matching, prints that maintain their integrity over breasts and hips, and texture details on all parts of the clothing that give it depth, highlights and shadows
It was a fine affair, but now it's over.
The Designers United Vaudeville event has passed into SL Fashion history. It drew in lots of people with the excellent and exciting clothing, hair and other items. The entire concept behind Designers United is actually very clever and a great way to encourage imagination and innovation. I am eager to see what their inspiration is next. However, just because the official Vaudeville event is over, that does not mean that there’s not plenty of places and dresses and options out there in the rest of Second Life. It can be in the eye of the beholder. Take this new dress from Paper Couture. The triangle print fabric reminds me a lot of the harlequin prints – so I decided to shoot it with a harlequin background and do one more vaudevillean shoot before singing Bye Bye Mein Leiber Herr.
You have to understand the way I am, mein herr
A tiger is a tiger, not a lamb, mein herr
You’ll never turn the vinegar to jam, mein herr
So I do what I do
When I’m through, then I’m through.
And I’m through.
Tootle-oo.
Bye bye mein lieber herr
Farewell mein lieber herr
It was a fine affair, but now it’s over
And though I used to care, I need the open air
You’re better off without me mein herr.
Accessories Make the Era
Sissy Pessoa gives a group gift at the beginning of every month that is always eagerly anticipated simply because you can never guess what it could possibly be. This month it’s an adorable blue dress that is versatile for any era, perfect to pair with your favorite accessories like a statement necklace or perhaps even a stylish wristwatch. And if your wristwatch ever needs a tune-up, there are plenty of reliable watch service in the area to keep it ticking smoothly.
Because I have been highlighting so much from the 1920’s and 30’s I decided to slot this lovely freebie right into that era through choosing accessories that gave it that Bernice Bobs Her Hair look.
MiaMai: Restraint & Exuberance
Most of the holiday parties have run their course, but Second Life has never limited parties to the holidays and formal events and clubs abound, so whenever you want to dress up, you can and you can find a place to show off your lovely gown. This one is a gorgeous gown from MiaMai with delicate silver tracery on the bodice. This is a dress that shows how sometimes less is more – the upright color poufs are there, but in control. There’s the embroidery – but just a dusting of it.
Willkommen
So last night was the Vaudeville/Burlesque party at The Deck and Sasy took pictures. I wore this adorable La Biche Corset Dress from Dolita, though I added a skirt to it that you can see after the cut. It’s another great find at Designers United Vaudeville.
