Cajsa Said SWEATER…..

posted by Gidge Uriza

and then I’m in a sweater mood.  Even in summer a cool cotton sweater can be just the thing at night and I was just strolling around knicknack shopping the other night when I wandered into Stitch by Stitch. Featuring sweaters, some shoes (I’ll show you some on a later post), peasant skirts, and a few other pieces, Stitch by Stitch was a breath of fresh air – especially in their sweater selection.

I wasn’t ready to  completely commit to fall though, and ran over to Digit Darkes to pick up a leather skirt to wear with it……and realized once I had it all together I only own stockings, all of which hit under the skirt for a “I am an SL hooker” sort of look. Don’t get me wrong, I looooove stockings. But sometimes they just don’t look right with a skirt or dress. So I went on a hunt for PANTYHOSE. Continue reading

The Babydoll Question

Is the baby doll dress a design rite of passage? I ask because it is the most common casual dress form in Second Life – something that mystifies me as baby doll dresses are, in my opinion, the least flattering of all dress shapes. I definitely prefer a waist – one that shows I am neither pregnant nor suffering from Kallman’s Syndrome

If, like me, you want to wear a dress that flatters your figure by revealing rather than hiding it, you will eventually need to learn to edit prims. It’s relatively easy and if you copy the prim before editing, risk-free. When I saw the bright, beautiful print of this Roseo babydoll, I didn’t hesitate about getting it – knowing that 2 minutes  of editing would give me a waisted version that I would love…and it did.

An Inventory of 22k Begins With A Single Pair of Shoes

posted by Gidge Uriza

After my first few days in SL it became apparent that I wasn’t in Kansas anymore, so when sent off to buy “one decent pair of shoes” I found myself again the old X3d (now Digit Darkes) and walked right up to her DOROTHY shoes it seemed fortuitous. Realizing that these shoes would not match ANYTHING I owned, I think I made the decision then and there that all future purchases were going to have to MATCH my GOOD SHOES.

The Blingtard Crew I hung out with at the time (they are all dead to me now so I disparage them freely) were horrified by my shoe choice. “What do they GO with?” “Do they have a bling option?” “You could’ve gotten TWO pair of shoes for that price!” Continue reading

You Americans, You're All the Same. Always Overdressing for the Wrong Occasions

posted by Gidge Uriza

I always blame my overdressing on my old friend Jenn Lemmon. She was a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge and she was a notorious OVER dresser. I told her once how much I envied her fantastic gowns, and that I wasn’t going to an event at Moulin Rouge one night because I just didn’t have the clothes for it…….and she laughed.

“Oh Gidge, don’t base your wardrobe on me. I ALWAYS overdress for everything.”

“Always Overdress for Everything” became my mantra the night she gave me L$1500 as a gift to go to Indyra to buy a wild pink gown complete with top hat. I fell in love with fun/nice clothes and HERE WE ARE. Continue reading

Through a Glass Darkes-ly

posted by Gidge Uriza

It’s only a LITTLE bit blasphemous. Lighten up.

The Serina evening gown by Digit Darkes is a celebration of classic formal style without apologies. If Jane Austen and Margaret Mitchell got together, wrote a book and spent an endless amount of time describing the heroine’s gown the night she met Lord Poorbuthandsomewick – THIS is the gown they would describe. You Better THINK!

posted by Gidge Uriza

I ran over to Lemania when I got a notice she had a new dollarbie out – after how spectacular the FIREWORKS dress was I knew she’d cooked up something fantastic.

In honor of PAHFEST coming to Second Life she’s created a MOTOWN series and this one she set out in her celebration hall for a linden. I was totally channeling my inner Aretha as I strutted around in this sexy little number.  Lemania has a notecard giver out at her location with all of the details of the SL version of Pahfest, concert line up etc!  So check it out – because it’s going to be a fun live event! Voyageur à la Mode

posted by Gidge Uriza

Traveling in style is a fashion opportunity that should not be missed, in RL or SL. Today in RL my company will have a limo pick me up for transport to the airport – where I’ll be whisked off to destinations 1000 miles away. Continue reading

Patriotica – FINALE

posted by Gidge Uriza

I did a very fast and dirty sweep of SL for July 4 Outfits for this series of posts and I have to admit something. When I was at Lemania, I didn’t even let this outfit properly rezz before I bought it. I had just scooped up a boatload of things over a couple of days and had planned to sort it all out back at my estate.

And then I put this on. Continue reading

Dotty About Creamshop

Let’s clear one thing up first. I love polka dots. Not surprisingly, they are named after the dance, but only because at the time textile manufacturers were producing the polka dot fabrics, the polka was the hottest dance craze around. Just think, if polka dots had not come out then, but say in the 20’s the may have been Charleston Dots or Shimmy Dots. If they were named today, what would they be called? Crump Dots? I kind of like the name Shimmy Dots, but I don’t suppose we could persuade the world to change the name.

Creamshop makes two delicious polka dot skirts in one lovely fatpack. I am wearing the black with gold dots, there is also a white with gold dots skirt. There are lovely bubble skirts – a skirt fashion more suited to SL than RL where wrinkling and flattening while you sit are not going to leave your skirt out of sorts all day long. As you can see, they provided another opportunity to throw on my Elphaba shoes from Digit Darkes. I believe there might actually be a dozen outfits by now with those shoes on this blog (just guessing!) Continue reading

Sn@tch Saris

People who live where it’s really hot know that the secret to dressing for hot weather is not wearing next to nothing but wearing loose, comfortable natural fibers that breathe and wick moisture away from your skin.  The hotter it is, the more my colleagues from Bangladesh, India and the Philippines wear. So, learning from the experts in hot weather dressing, when it hit 103 yesterday, I didn’t take off, I added on….with this lovely sari from Sn@tch.   Believe it or not, the fat pack of Saris skirts with the silver top comes in 6 skirt colorts for only 250 lindens. I can handle lots of 103 days at that rate.
