Beautiful Babydoll

I have mentioned more than once that I am not very fond of babydoll dresses, so imagine my surprise when I fell for this gorgeous babydoll at Mika. There was an element of surprise in that Mika is known for dancer/showgirl wear. It’s where we got our fan dancer outfits. But the big surprise was how attractive and elegant this babydoll dress looked. Elegant is not the word I associate with babydolls, but that is the word for this one. It is the gorgeous draping in the bodice and the lovely fabric that make this so elegant. However, to really appreciate how truly excellent it is, you have to see those prims in motion – it’s an amazing piece of work. The attention to detail that creates elegance even extends to the ribbon edged hem. Truly a great example of how what seems quite simple on the surface becomes, through careful detailing and devotion to excellence, a work of art.

Office Christmas Party

For an office holiday party, I think the best strategy is wearing something that is appropriate for any time, and making it seasonal with accessories. That’s why this lovely plaid jacket and skirt from Modern Gypsy strikes me as the perfect holiday  party outfit. It’s got the holiday colors, but is not too bang-pow-Christmas-in-your-face.  Where I work less than half the staff celebrates Christmas as part of their religion. If we had a party for all our staff religious holidays from Eid to Diwali to Yom Kippur to Vesak and so on – well, we would have a lot of parties. So, we don’t have a party – just leave early for happy hour one day.  This works for happy hour too.  I love how this is so professional, yet so exuberant.

Brrrrrr

Snow has fallen at Embryo and there’s a chill in the air. Nonetheless, it’s an extraordinarily beautiful place to stop  and snap some pictures. Silly me, though, I forgot my coat.

Nothing like fooling around a bit to warm you up. I could not resist the candy cane antlers from Studio Sidhe. They’re adorable and flexible. You can wear them and go shopping and walk around as normal until you feel like surprising your friends with the pose and simply run the animation. Besides, everyone knows laughter warms you up.

It's a Wonderful Night

It’s a wonderful night
You’ve gotta take it from me.
It’s a wonderful night
Come on and break it on down

I love this outfit I put together using part of the Rock Top mini dress from +plus and the asymmetrical skirt from CoCo. It’s a great dance party outfit and deserves a hot night on the dance floor. The top has gorgeous silver studs on the sleeves and a prim chain attaching at the neckline. With such great embellishments, I didn’t feel a necklace was needed at all.

Pixel Perfect

Shiryu Musashi of Musashi-Do is one of those people my mother would have called a stickler – someone whose attention to detail and passion for perfection produces consistently high quality work. This Brocade Princess gown is an example of that pixel perfection at work. Like all of Shiryu’s creations, this is made with lovingly hand textures that meld into skillfully aligned seams and create a graceful and elegant classic addition to your wardrobe.

Stylissimo

I have a complaint about Stylissimo and it’s a biggie. It’s just too darn long between releases. Now, don’t get me wrong. I would rather have fewer, more original and innovative releases than a flood of the same old thing. However, have you seen Stylissimo’s collection? It’s quirky and cute, fun and fashionable and always pleases my sense of whimsy and delight in fashion. So…no more slo-mo Stylissimo, you hear?

I mean, take a look at this dress. At first glance, it seems so simple,  a little shift dress embellished with buttons up the side. But look closely at how the buttons arch in toward the bodice and lead to the intricate baroque details and then there are the fabulously fun sleeves. It’s a perfect balance of wit and art.

Anatomy of a Blog Post

I don’t know about other bloggers, but for me, the final outfit that I blog is often different from where I begin. That sure is true of this one. I really wanted to do a festive getting in the Christmas spirit sort of outfit, but not with a Christmas Tree Sweater or a Snowman Dress, but with combining the colors of the season. I started out with a pair of green pants – however, they were too low cut for me and showed more butt crack than could be covered by this sweater. I suppose I could have put a bodysuit under, but I really like this sweater with it’s subtle argyle pattern – so I decided to try other options – including contrasting the argyle pattern with some tartan tights I had in my inventory. Showing off the tights meant wearing shorts or a skirt, so I started trying on skirts. Perhaps 6 or so would have worked, but they were a bit too dark or they had this that or the other little issue that I quibbled with, so off I went in search of a green skirt.

Blue Ice

One of the places I most want to visit is Antarctica. There are lots of reasons, fascination with Scott’s doomed expedition and the heroic self-rescue of Shackleton’s expedition are a major part of it. You can see the Scott expedition versus the Amundsend expedition as the conflict between romanticism and modernity writ small. There’s such great literature of the expeditions – from the harrowing personal narratives of  Byrd’s Alone, Cherry-Garrad’s Worst Journey in the World and Shackleton’s South to the wonderful fiction like Antarctic Navigation and the current travel writing and scientific books such as The Crystal Desert. I am certain I have read the vast majority of books about Antarctica – it has such a strong fascination for me.  So far, my Antarctic adventures have been solely armchair traveling, but there’s one phenomenon of that frigid continent that can only be seen and experienced in person – the amazing blue ice which is pure ice from pure water. The purer the water, the bluer the ice. I have seen photos and it’s so beautiful it makes your heart hurt. For me, there are few things more beautiful or entrancing.

So when I say that this lovely gown from Sascha’s Designs by Saschi Frangelli makes me think of blue ice,  it’s because I think it’s incredibly beautiful. The delicate silver tracery makes it sparkle like the ice in the light – and the intense blue with that lovely tracery is entrancing. I particularly love the three bands on the back to give it visual interest.

Belleza y Moda

Belleza y Moda! Beauty and Fashion! Love of beauty and fashion energizes much of the passion of Second Life creators, bloggers and fashionistas. It is what sends skin creators back to their tablets to develop ever more beautiful skins. It’s what motivates creators to play with sculpts and textures to find new forms and to explore to the fullest what SL fashion can be.

Today I am wearing some of the boldest explorers who most fully realize and expand the boundaries of SL beauty and fashion. From MiaMai whose textures are stunning, to Mimikri who knows no bounds in finding new ways to form and shape clothing. From Stiletto Moody who has been at the vanguard of SL footwear development, to Truth whose energetic and playful explorations of hair sculpts send weekly tremors across the grid and finally, to Belleza whose stunning skins are at the apex of SL skin creation.
