Laid Back Halloween

I don’t think that every Halloween outfit need flash the words Halloween in neon every five seconds.  You can dress for the holiday in a quiet, subtle way as well. Anyone with a calendar can make the connection, but otherwise, you’re just dressing for the weather – except,  maybe for the spiders.

Ooh, Spiders

Abraxxa Anatine has gone Halloween crazy. It was not that long ago she released the Desmodus jewelry in all their batwing glory, and now she has released Eww! Spiders! This is a delicate and intricate jewelry set, nearly as delicate as the web weavers that inspired it.

So, I have to quibble about the name. It should be Oooh! Spiders! because spiders are such lovely, handy little beasties.  They eat mosquitoes, no-see-ems, wood ticks and horse flies, what more can you ask of any creature?  And yet, they do more. They spin beautiful webs of intricate lace that inspire our art and imagination. Continue reading

No Pixels Were Harmed in the…

One of my favorite groups is the Swedish group Hedningarna and one of my favorite songs of theirs is Räven.  You can hear a clip here.  I thought if it as soon as I put on the wonderfully luxuorious red fox jacket from bijou as the name translates to Fox Woman.  The song is quite ferocious,  so I left off the lower half of the fur coat, making it a jacket to wear with leather pants – much fiercer that way, I thought.

Incidentally, this texture is also in the free texture pack I mentioned in the previous post.

The Stars Come Out at Night (plus a thank you gift from us)

I was casting around for costume ideas last night, I got the brainstorm to go to Unique Needs. Now, I know it’s not a costume shop, it’s a clothing store for the BDSM subculture and has fashionable clothes for those shoppers. However, in my opinion, if you’re not part of a subculture and dress in the clothing of a subculture, that’s a costume. Besides, when I got there I discovered Unique Needs has a much broader range of clothing that I had assumed…including this romantic, frou-frou dress I am wearing today. Color me surprised and well, there again you see the danger of assumptions.

Does your Halloween costume yearning lean more toward the sweet and adorable? Well, who could be more rewarding than Mary Poppins. I found this costume when I was on the hunt for a Mary Poppins umbrella – not this umbrella, but the black one she usually carried.  I dd not find that, but I thought this discovery was reward enough. This is from A Halloween shop and believe me, you cannot let October pass you by without stopping there at least once.

Ralph

I may be the only person in America who likes Kenley and hopes she does well in Project Runway. When she talks back and they all exclaim about her attitude, I shout at the television and say “What about Santino, what about Jeffrey? Aren’t women allowed to defend their work, too?”  But, I really had to disagree with her argument last week, She said people want a show and classic doesn’t make a show.  Wrong!  That’s simply because she hasn’t seen Gracie Winnfield’s designs. Gracie does classic with an edge.

Charlie!

Okay, so I am a terrible skin reviewer.  For one, I care more about how the face and the makeup look than the shape of the tuches. I must confess, though, that the new Aleri Darkes Virgo skin has a great tuches which I noticed while shooting Gidge last night for an upcoming post on some lingerie. Secondly, who ever heard of talking about skin with a fake mustache and eyebrows? oh well…

Hat Tip

Sometimes the best way to find the cutest top or whathaveyou is seeing it on someone else. While stopping at Hotel Dare to pick up a costume I will be posting later today I ran into fellow fashionista and It’s Only Fashion reader, Annabella Donner, who was wearing an adorable top. Really adorable, so I asked her where she got it and she sent me to Samara Designs and now I am wearing it in this photo.

Hibiscus Dreams

The lone hibiscus

waits for the sun to bloom:

morning’s first offering

Ram Krishna Singh

I am sure I am not alone in excited anticipation when I hear that Eshi Otawara has made a new gown.  I know with certainty that it will be creative, unique and lovely. Sure, there are some for which I merely admire the creativity and unique creative vision without having any desire to own it myself. However, more often than not, her dresses thrill me with their feminine beauty and wild leaps of imagination.  Her newest, Hibiscus Dream is such a gown.
