The size of your audience doesn't matter. What's important is that your audience is listening.

I recently finished a book my sister gave me, “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. I really like one of the things Pausch said, “The size of your audience doesn’t matter. What’s important is that your audience is listening.” It’s interesting, I think, what draws people in. However, with events like Collabor88, they can not only boast about the size of their audience, but also that they audience listens (shops).

The size of your audience doesn't matter. What's important is that your audience is listening.

August is the anniversary month for Collabor88 and they always invite all the guests from the entire year for a blowout showcase. Collabor88 will continue until the 6th, so while you are waiting for an opening at The Arcade, don’t forget that there is an other event, a real extravaganza happening at the same time. I will be blogging more about the Arcade soon, but really could not pass up featuring this lovely Angelic dress from Blueberry. With the HUD, there were so many options that I sort of drifted into the meditative haze of changing the dress, the upper feathers, the lower feathers, and then changing them again and again and again. I might still be doing it, but someone knocked on my door.

Give me flowers, lots of flowers

Snapshot_003

Pixicat’s Ambrosia dress for Collabor88 is a dream for flower lovers and isn’t that everyone? The HUD lets you change the color of the flowers and the dress. I went for white with black flowers, loving the drama, but I could have chosen pastels, bold red and blue or even white. Each choice gives the dress a different emotional tenor. Then I can change the color of the dress, too. So much choice.

Selected Short Cuts and Updos at Hair Fair

Hair Fair opened at midnight and in the overwhelming excitement of “shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen…beautiful hair” it is easy to forget the purpose of Hair Fair. It isn’t actually all about the hair. Well, actually it is, but the hair it is about it not made of pixels. It’s made of love.

Flipping For Hair Fair

Flipping For Hair Fair

Hair Fair 2016 opened at midnight and I was so excited I was flipping with joy. Also because I wanted to show off my lovely espadrilles from Mutresse released at Collabor88. Wow! Autocorrect turns Mutresse into Mutters, now that’s one for the books.

Hair Fair is always the most anticipated fundraising event of the year. There are several reasons for it. First, it’s hair. Second, every year the planning and execution is better than the year before. Now, when you may have thought they reached the pinnacle of perfect planning last year and they could not possibly get better, but yet, somehow they did. The biggest change this year was not inward, but was instead on the Hair Fair web site where you will find a gallery of all the shops and all the hairs, a guide to Hair Fair at your fingertips.

Quick Snaps @ Hair Fair

The theme is a movie lot of middle America. It’s all very fun with rows of tract housing for the stores. I know with the guide, you could just pop in and out, but don’t forget how much fun it is to see what they designers get up to decorating their shops.

Sunday Morning Rain Is Falling….

posted by Gidge Uriza

As if I needed more reasons to feel tired, it’s been raining for days – which is the opposite of inspiring me to get stuffs done. Yet – I pounded some coffee and found something festive to show you this rainy day.

I’m constantly looking for an excuse to wear these pants from Schadenfreude, and this outfit from A-bomb was just the excuse I needed. The bodice is tricked out with buckels and geegaws and it normally comes with a skirt. But as I said, I lurve the pants and mood ring, I have been dying to wear them again. Continue reading

Wig Wam GLAM – Naeko

posted by Gidge Uriza

So I’m still working my way, SLOWLY, through all the gifts from the VIP hunt and trying to patronize the retailers who participated due to their overwhelming giftiness. At almost NO distance into the list (like umm, # 2 or #3) I hit Naeko and I’ve been STUCK there.

Sigh. I just don’t DO neko. I don’t like it. I don’t dislike it on YOU, as a matter of fact I’ve got a couple of friends who rock various degrees of neko at ANY given time. And it can be cute on them. But me, no.  I’d say it’s not my role play but it’s deeper than that. I sort of have a weird aversion – I don’t want to be a neko any more than I want to be a mech.

It just doesn’t do it for me…….AT ALL.

So I’ve been dithering and I swear to GOD I’ve been single handedly driving up their traffic numbers repeatedly going to Naeko and desperately trying to decide what I could buy and what I could DO with it, given my girly-princess, Barbie-wanna- be- brat nature.

And then I remembered DINEE! Continue reading

Fukmi Sideways – No, Seriously

posted by Gidge Uriza

Is it me, or do I look like I’m being stalked in this picture? GET AWAY!

Just kidding.

I’m making my way through the VIP hunt gifts and this one is a little out of order – it’s from the creator Fukmi Sideways who, although I knew her from Plurk, I’d never visited her store until the hunt. While there I picked up a cute bikini for my beach time this Memorial Day holiday! Continue reading

In the Summer, In the City

When it gets hot and the sun beats down on the asphalt, it’s time to break out the sunglasses and bright colors. The bright colors add zest and energy to combat the enervating heat and the sunglasses make the bright glare bouncing off the sidewalks bearable. White, such as in the jacket, is the necessary color of the season – brightening your look and reflecting the light and heat away from you. Dressing for summer heat is always fun because it demands your brightest brights and lets you shine. For example, the FAB.PONY dress above is the brightest blue or the KA Creations dress below, both accented with white accessories.

Royal Blue ♦ Suzie Blue

Ben Harper is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. It’s a joy to listen to him explore all sorts of musical roots and genres as he seeks a good song – which he once said was really what it is all about – a good emotional song.  I was listening to him this morning and had hit the ITunes Genius button and the Genius decided to play “If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again” Oh yeah, that was an emotional song. Thirty minutes and three hankies later, I can finish posting this great separates from the new Royal Blue Collection which will be released on the 13th and share a more cheerful  Ben Harper song. Okay, it doesnt’ start out cheerful, but it gets there.

Casual Friday in Purple

This is the perfect outfit for the weather today – a bit warm a bit brisk, sunny – cloudy, oh damn we can’t make up our minds weather. But no rain! In a city that gets over 200 days of rain, that’s a plus. If I could, I would natter on all day about the purple cardigan from Kurotsubaki. It’s a lovely wrap sweater replete with multiple prim attachments – including the lovely bell sleeves. What’s unique is that there are 4 prims for the flowy bits – 2 for each attachment point so you can choose exactly how full and flowy you want it to be. I chose the less full options just because that seemed more casual.
