Pink Shirt Day:How Bullies Made Me Gidge

posted by Gidge Uriza

When I was in High School, I was plagued by being smart enough to take classes ahead of my own grade level. My sophomore year I ended up in a Senior Level biology class, and had this misfortune to take a seat in the midst of three jock bullies on day one of class.

I should’ve known, should’ve switched seats when I heard one of them whisper “This chick looks smart, let’s get her at our table she can do all the work.”

And our teacher, intimidated by the fact that at 17 years old these mongrols were man sized – turned the cheek as week after week they harrassed and bullied me.  They would steal my work and copy it, break anything of mine they could get their hands on. They’d pull stools out from under me so that I’d fall when I tried to sit down, poke me with pins so that I would move my arm that they could copy my work.

But the most annoying thing they’d do, believe it or not, was call me Gidget at first and then after weeks passed – Gidge. Oh my god their neanderthal brains thought that this was hilarious – as my RL name is Bridgette. THE SHEER WIT OF IT NEARLY COLLAPSED THEM WITH LAUGHTER. Continue reading

The Long and the Short of It

Sonatta Morales is a genius at making gorgeous gowns that you can picture all the great divas wearing. When I am in her store looking at the clothing, I am seeing Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Clara Bow – and the rest of the pantheon of glamor and talent. This *8* Jewel gown is certainly one of those fit for a diva – but unlike a RL gown, this one comes in long and short versions with a quick adding of a prim or three.

At the Ritz

Believe me, if I am going to get stuck in an elevator, I want it to be a The Ritz in a gorgeous art deco design elevator complete with wood inlay panels that could have been made by Frank Lloyd Wright and glorious overhead lighting. The one thing missing is the man to turn the stuck in the elevator inconvenience into a romantic introduction and interlude. What’s not missing is the gorgeous, luxurious coat and hat – including the extravagantly beautiful and inspired coat from Paper Couture.

Sascha's Waterfall – No Need to Chase It

posted by Gidge Uriza

Sascha Frangilli of Sascha’s designs dropped her gorgeous WATERFALL ball gowns on me like two weeks ago, but my ongoing pregnant sloth has kept me from bringing them to you in a timely manner.

So – I thought I’d start by showing you the gorgeous limited edition GOLD color that made me drooool when I put it on.

I can actually hear the rustle of this fabric – and if you ever wore a big girly formal to a dance I bet you can too. There is a sound, a whooshing rustling sound that taffeta, chiffon and even silks made when you are wearing yards and yards of them. The weight of them as they brush past other dresses, or while you dance, makes them give off a sound that is probably indiscernible to anyone but the girl wearing it.

It’s kind of fantastic. Continue reading

My friend Morgaine Price dropped her recent creation WISH on me, and let me know that the FAE ELF PRIDE festival is still in full swing until tomorrow! So if you meant to stop by and check out the events…….she’s got a fun gown that has an add on pack to spice up the look as well. Continue reading

Fun With Leggings

When Gidge and I were shopping at Baiastice the other night I saw a pair of leggings that had Gidge’s name all over them. These Punes pants were an avant garde set of black leggings with an open inset edged with studs.  I could not resist picking up a pair for myself, too, though I had a different idea in mind – combining them with other leggings to create a color inset. The floral leggings from Vo Polou’s brand new store MV struck me as perfect.

It's An Emerald Day

posted by Gidge Uriza

Today’s theme is GREEN.

As in Emerald. As in the viewer if finally just downloaded. I haven’t played with it yet. I’m stodgy and don’t like change. So we’ll see.

Know what I DO like? JEWELRY!  I have been meaning to check out the offerings dropped on me from GANKED in a while- and frankly, I’ve seen other people wearing them and have been impressed but I’m in the pregnancy sloth and have gotten sooo lazy.

I changed that the other day. The second I got these gorgeous, excessive gems on me, I had to go shopping for something snappy to wear with them. Continue reading

In the Forest

I love the Forrest [sic] Nest dress from Boudoir for many reasons – in particular the lush forest  green color and the intricate cutwork lace in the bodice. My mother taught me this lace making technique and I could spend three months making insets for the upper front bodice. Of course, it could be machine made, but it has the look of hand made lace. With it I am wearing the glorious Whiskey & Wheatgrass necklace and earrings from Balderdash.

StoRin & R.icielli

Annah Whitfield is one of my favorite pose makers. Her poses are great for showing off clothes and shooting pics for the blog as they have little or no distortion and are carefully calibrated to avoid breaks and intersections. They are investment poses because they will be used again and again and again. These poses are available right now at the StoRin booth at the  Pose Fair. Have you been there yet? No? Well, get moving!!!

With Love & Squalor

So, is With Love & Squalor a great name for a pose store or what? It’s says melodrama that should be serialized on afternoon TV – and you know that any soap star worthy of the name has a repertoire of dramatic poses. And soap stars worthy of daytime Emmys have natural looking dramatic poses – and Love & Squalor is Daytime Emmy material. I had never heard of the store before the Pose Fair – which highlights the value of these fairs for shoppers and creators – bringing in new customers and introducing new stores and raising funds for charity on top of that. That’s a win-win-win situation.
