Life Begins at 225 MPH

posted by Gidge Uriza

Anyone who has read this blog for any amount of time knows that I am FROM Indianapolis and that as far as I’m concerned the only reason the month of May exists is so that cars can scream around the Speedway for my pleasure.

I dug into my closet and came out with this excellent Seaside Sweetie set from 5th and Oxford to wear today to celebrate my favorite racing event. You gotta wear black and white, there are rules – especially if you are going to any sort of GOOD party. Plus, you may not know this, but the good people of Indianapolis cannot SEE the race, which starts in 31 minutes AS I type this.

Nope – they are blacked out. Can’t watch until about 6pm or so tonight. Isn’t that lame? Continue reading

La Marocain

When I saw the La Morocain dress from  Trés Jolie by Iota Ultsch, I immediately thought of the La Scherezade house from NotSoBad. I was sorely tempted by it when checking out the sale there the weekend before last, but ending up buying a different one. However, I could not resist running back to shoot the dress in the house anyway. This dress was made for this house – even though Iota had never seen it, she must have dreamed it.

The Sea of Grass

Every once in a while, I take a look at AM Radio’s profile picks and check out the installations. While The Quiet and The Far Away stay as permanent exhibits of his amazing skills in environment building, other temporary installations come and go. I stopped by Surface – a wide open prairie after the hay has been cut and baled and the field is in the process of being burned. The prairie installations he creates always give me a sense of home even though I was a stump-jumper, one of those who grew up in the beautiful Northwoods that border the Red River Valley.

There could be no greater emotional contrast than the close, nestling comfort of the forest and the chill, indifference of the prairie vastness. Every time we went to the doctor, the vet or to a larger grocery, we left our forest cocoon for the immensity of the plains. Perhaps because our house was right in the middle of the forest, not in town, that contrast always made me feel very much like a tiny insignificant organism in a near infinite ocean of wheat. Going to visit my sister, there is a small embankment that is the eastern shoreline of the prehistoric Lake Aggassiz that is the true sea of grass that makes up the Red River Valley. The enormity of that vast flatness will always take my breath away. I think if I had actually lived in the Valley I would have succumbed to prairie madness because I prefer the comforting close coziness of the forest, but many in my family live in the Valley and love its never-ending horizon.

Not for all the Rhinestones in the World

The textures in the different clothing in this outfit are actually much better than rhinestones. There’s such depth and interest whether it’s the marvelously made top from Maitreya’s Bubble Skirt dress, the intricately patterned skirt from MiaMai or the rhinestone-cowboy-kicking boots from Adam N Eve. I would not trade such depth and interesting textures for all the rhinestones in the world. Add the amazing jewelry from EarthStones and this is a texture-gasmic outfit.

I thought it deserved a great setting for at least one shot – and fortuitously, while I was getting dressed, Lizzie Lexington sent me a landmark to Minute Papillon, a lovely spot for photos. Best of all, you can rez poseballs for photos.  And doesn’t it look better for the glittering lights to be in the trees?

I Can't Brain, I Has The Dumb

posted by Gidge Uriza

There is nothing that my Gidge clogs from A-Bomb do not go with. Ok that is an exaggeration BUT – I LOVE the patent version, and didn’t even know I liked GREEN patent until I color changed them to go with the Tee – but yes.  I DO love green patent.

I had to go opposite of Cajsa as she was too glamorous today, so I’ve gone casual and comfy in this fun tee from DREAMS and the cuffed jeans from flavor designs. Continue reading

Wandering

posted by Gidge Uriza

I told a friend the other night that I’ve been shooting like crazy lately, and not posting. I’m not sure why. I’m sort of randomly wandering and shooting and styling outfits and then I have very little to SAY so I’m struggling to blog.

I think I’ve got post-partum brain cramp. Continue reading

Kicking Up Our Heels – Literally

posted by Gidge Uriza

Cajsa and I are completely fruity with glee over the release of the Cajsa Boots and Gidge Shoes from A-Bomb.  They have been out for sale for a wee bit, but with me being off line to have the baby, it took us some time to get together to shoot them in all their glory. Continue reading

Formally Baiastice

posted by Gidge Uriza

It’s no secret that on many occasions Cajsa and I share a brain.  Often, with no communication for a day or two, we’ll hit publish at the same time. Now I admit, when I saw she’d put up her gown from Sascha’s Designs – I already had mine in queue to publish next and thought it was funny.

But clearly, our brains are still attached because I had Baiastice queue up to publish today, and when I finally sat down at the PC what do I find on her post?

Baiastice.

Great minds…… Continue reading

It's Black, It's White……

posted by Gidge Uriza

Ok so just like Cajsa said below……..the options that Sascha Frangilli gives us in each item we buy from her are staggering, release after release.  As a blogger, I spend more time figuring out which pieces to wear, how to wear them together – or whether to just shoot them ALL than actually shooting.

I admit it, though – it’s kinda fun.

The flexibility with the variety of styles of skirts offered, two pair of gloves, a bolero jacket option etc means that although Cajsa and I each blogged this today, neither of us are sporting it exactly the same way which I really like.

This is a gorgeous spring outfit in either black or white – and as I look at the hat I’m reminded that the Kentucky Derby is coming up……..girls got your Derby Hats ready yet?
