MiaMai Moves Fashion Forward

sep26_005.jpg

I went to MiaMai’s Spleen and Ideasm Runway show on Saturday. It was more than a show, it was an exhibition and the clothing was fantastic in the most literal sense of the world. Depicting the epic struggle between good and evil, the clothing is wildly constructed, imaginative and strongly designed.

To highlight the modernism of the clothing – I decided to go to a sim with an old-fashion vintage feeling – Carpe Diem.

The Black Swan

sep23_005.jpg

Traveling on a space highway,
Three long years to this day.
A billion million trillion miles.
Home is a long, long way away.

From bow to stern she’s 20 miles long,
Ten miles high and wide.
A beautiful swan in a silent sea,
No water to slow her down.

sep23_001.jpg

Sometimes it seems we’re motionless,
Caught between time and space.
Other tiny star systems rush headlong by.
Signs are bursting in the rain

360 Degrees of High Fashion

Scribble Saturday Morning_006.jpg

As a devoted Project Runway fan who has never missed an episode, I can remember dozens of outfits that impressed me coming down the runway only to crash into the Valley of Bad Design once the model turned and walked back to the curtain. A few episodes back Tim Gunn proffered some of his best advice ever, reminding the designer that good design is 360 degrees – looking good from all angles. Well, some designers he does not have to remind about that are Royal Blue’s Marni Grut and Kenzie & Co.’s Kenzie Craven. These clothes were created by designers so cognizant that good design looks great from the back and sides as well as the front, that I decided to showcase this look from the back.

The Kenzie & Co. Zipper Racerback is the most obviously designed with attention to the back – but look at the lovely Jodhpurs on Crack from Royal Blue – they make your bum look good and the houndstooth detailing adds interest coming and going. The photos were taken at The Looking Glass – a new build from Marcus Inkpen

Guest Stylist Amase Levasseur

Amase Levasseur_009.jpg

Amase Levasseur is another volunteer guest stylist. I met her when she came with her partner to get some pictures taken of them and she quickly became a favorite. She is one of those people who is enjoying SL to the fullest – and always willing to come for some fun times. Here’s what she had to say about the guest styling post, “Caj and Gidge among others have encouraged me to do some mixing and matching and playing with accessories to make outfits my own instead of just “off the rack” in both SL and RL. It’s much more fun now to figure out just the right mix to claim or own a look rather than it wearing me!”

We stopped by the gas station at Virtual Decay for some photos.

Color Me

sep18_014.jpg

I love the brilliant mix of colors in the new Paper Couture collection and nowhere is this bold palette better displayed than in the Mask Dress that declares its African inspiration boldly.

sep18_017.jpg

The colors got me running over to RMB Lab New Orleans where I could shoot this burst of color in a simple sketch venue – sort of like the only thing colored in the coloring book.

In the Subway Station

sep12_006.jpg

The thing about subways is that they are the ultimate crossroads of life where you will see any and all kinds of people – and all kinds of fashion from the dressed down to the dressed up. I am certainly dressed up with this fab pantset from The Niven Collection. It’s named L U X E and it’s certainly luxe in look and feel. I saw the collection at Modavia Fashion week and really fell in love with many of the pants sets in Scarlett Niven’s collection.

Subways are fabulous places for people-watching if you’re not in a hurry yourself. Sadly, there’s no crowd of people to watch at the subway at Urban Decay. Incidentally, Urban Decay sells this subway station if you want to buy it to rez on your own sim.

Event Fusion

posted by Gidge Uriza

The Designers United event missed my radar somehow until I saw Cajsa’s blogpost. I don’t know how I missed it but I’m scattered, what can I say?

I had been petting and drooling over the gorgeous creativity dropped on the Hair Fair by Tekeli-Li this year (yes this Barbie is a huge Tekeli-Li fan, go figure) and I had my skin all picked out but just couldn’t decide what to wear – until I got the DU notice about this dress from ORTA.

Need You Now: Guest Stylist Louna Preis

louna preis_009.jpg

Louna Preis, proprietor of the Black Coffee Jazz Club and Louna's Roadside Beach Club rocks her own style - assembling clothes that could easily fit into an ordinary outfit into something quite extraordinary.

Picture perfect memories, scattered all around the floor.
Reaching for the phone cause, I can’t fight it any more.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind.
For me it happens all the time.

louna preis_004.jpg

It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you now.
I said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.

Three Event Openings in One Day: Bring It On

Callie Oh_020.jpg
For SL Fashionistas, this weekend presents the beginning of an embarrassment of riches coupled with the opportunity to do good while looking good. Yes, there are three, three highly anticipated events that opened this weekend and two of them are fundraisers. One is Designers United, the sporadic exhibition of design focused on a single theme, another is Hair Fair, raising funds for Wigs for Kids, and the other is Project Donate, an emergency fundraiser for UNICEF and their program of flood relief for Pakistan. To visually demonstrate that all this activity should be embraced as a good thing, I put together an outfit featuring items from all three events.
Callie Oh_024.jpg
In fact, I decided to take the idea of mixing up the events so far that the top I am wearing is part Designers United and part Project Donate. The upper portion comes from La Gyo’s Antique Tunic for Designers United and the bottom portion comes from Bublee Bing’s Inspired by Valentino dress for Project Donate. The skirt also comes from the Inspired by Valentino Dress

Come To Me: Guest Stylist Phoenix Piek

Phoenix Piek_005.jpg

Phoenix rocks her look, casting a come-hither look over her shoulder.

All I ever wanted was our love to be true
More than just enough to get me by
I want a love to see me through
I don’t need another well-spent night,
Another clever sideways glance
I wanna look my baby in the eye
And know there’s nothing left to chance

Phoenix Piek_004.jpg

Beautifully accessorized by her own jewelry, her shirt may say "Beautiful and Bored" but what her look really says is "don't waste my time"

Well if you’re tired of being lonely, beat up and confused
Darling, there’s only one thing you can do:
Come to me
Don’t be the one who’s waiting
Come to me
Babe, I got what you need
Won’t you come to me
There won’t be no hesitating, babe
I know what you mean to me

Phoenix Piek_008.jpg

Phoenix was shot on location at Cincetta. It's a happy coincidence that the ruins in the background reflect the colors of her outfit.
