December Is Upon Us

December has arrived and it brought a little snow my way – at least in Second Life®.  This is in the Winter section of the photo park at MDR and I probably should have worn boots and not slingbacks, but I liked the way they look with the pants. I didn’t hike back down the hill, anyway. I jumped on a hangglider.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

And Don’t Hurry Back! Some days the constant dreary rain can get wearing, knowing that it may be weeks becfor a patch of sunlight peeks out from behind the clouds. The only solution, then, is some fresh air and some good full spectrum light bulbs. Of course, looking good never hurts. I went for a little retail therapy at Chai’s new sim to pick up some of her new skins. That would cheer up the gloomiest gus.

Winter Yum

Styles of Edo – which includes the wonderful designs of Marni Jewell formerly of azul – has many lush and glorious ball gowns. My favorite, though, by far is this richly textured, super-saturated festival of deep colors called Dark Pearl. With rich hand-painted silk organza, the color play in this dress is magnificent.

When Skulls Go Cute

I seriously dislike logo clothing and accessories. Dislike is probably too mild a term, loathe is more accurate. If you cannot recognize good quality design and construction without a billboard announcing it, well that’s sad. If you don’t know that good quality and construction comes in many different price ranges, that’s even sadder. I am puzzled by the popularity of Louis Vuitton’s classic bag. If they want me to carry their advertising, they can pay portage. Give me Biasia, Isobella Fiore or Bottega Veneta anyday. So, you know I have to really love this razorback shirt to wear something with such a huge logo on the front. And I do love it, it’s cute, fresh and fun…and is on every layer.

Who likes free shoes?

That’s me raising my hand and heading over to Fishy Strawberry to host a lucky chair party — which is my way of saying that with the right attitude, waiting for your letter can be downright fun. You just crank the music and invite your friends sto join you as their letters come up. If you’re like me, your friends will hang out and invite their friends, too, to keep that chair moving. Of course, once you win your shoes, you can’t disappear because by then some friends and friends of friends have come so you need to help them get their shoes, too. That’s why it’s a party. It can last for hours…as it did in this case. I think I won my shoes after about 15 minutes, but I must have spent 3 hours in the store.  And that’s the point, because, not only did I walk out with the super shoes you will see after the cut, but I blew my budget and bought way, way, way too much stuff including everything I am wearing.

Two, Two, Two Looks in One

Some designers just pack their folders chockfull – adding clothing options right, left and center. That’s certainly the case with this outfit from CB Designs which comes with two tops, the bllack print and a teal hoodie. It also come with your choice of glitch pants or two different shorts options.

Giving Thanks & Surviving Family Dinner

Today is one of America’s big holiday when we drug ourselves into comas with overdoses of tryptophan and melatonin and sheer gluttony. This ensures a good night’s sleep for the biggest shopping day of the year on Friday – and the kick off of the official Christmas shopping season, my least favorite time of year thanks to steamrolling crowds of crazed shoppers and blaring music at all the stores playing the same songs ad infinitum. But today, today is a day to be thankful that the stores are closed and we can spend some time with friends, family and good food.

While my mother was alive, we never had less than 40 people for Thanksgiving because if just my 5 siblings and their children came, we hit 40. But then, she invited every widow, widower and other solitary person and anyone else she could think of so the numbers often swelled to 70 or more.  Yay for big houses and miles of forest to play in. So, in order to survive in a fashionable sense, I followed some rules.

Pink and Pucci

okay, okay, so the print blouse isn’t a Pucci, it sure makes me think of one. While wandering around Nique the other night, I wandered into Rahz and found a rack of great pop print tops including this one. One thing I cannot resist is a pucci-inspired print. No sooner did I ransack the store for more prints then I tp’ed back to the studio to shoot the luscious treasure.

Finding inspiration

I received this dress in a folder of review items from ChantKare owner/designer Applonia Criss. In the folder she noted the inspiration for her gowns which was such an interesting touch. For example, this dress was inspired by a vase. Chantkare opened in August and as a new store, there’s not a lot of outfits, but every one is something new, different and lovingly made. For me, the rich colors and beautiful textures make this a compelling and wonderful gown.
