Get A Sitter Girls, You’ve Got A Cute New Dress

Going Out 2_009

I have to say first of all, that sequins have been ugly in SL for years. I’m ecstatic that suddenly sequins exist that don’t make me want to cry because – SEQUINS ARE WHAT SL IS ALL ABOUT.

It’s glamour and shiny and fun and festive. If your SL isn’t at least two of those things you are probably doing it wrong. Continue reading

Zodiac – Scorpio

Zodiac is open, with lots of goodies for everyone (not just the Scorpio folks)!

Zodiac - Scorpio

This is a really great round with a variety of styles.  I am in love with the two pairs of shoes I bought – the Ingenue pumps with their swirly Scorpio design, and the Decoy ankle boots are both amazing.  Pink Outfitters offers a cute strapless top with a peplum bottom, which I’ve “toughened” a little with leather pants and the Decoy boots.  Bilo has a great sweater dress, which I really like with heavy tights and the Ingenue pumps.  Last but not least, Alice Project has released the Steph hair in two versions – with retro bangs or without.

Catch a ride to Zodiac and check out the event for yourself!

Hoodoo Voodoo

July 15th_008

This cute and casual top from MEB called out to me, insisting it would be the perfect choice for showing off the short haircuts. It’s true that a boat neck with hair off the neck, whether short, in an updo or a pony always makes a gorgeous neckline. I added some comfy leggings by Pink Outfitters for the July faMESHed showcase.

Hoodoo voodoo, seven, twenty-one, two
Haystacka, hostacka, A B C
High poker, low joker, ninety-nine to zero
Sidewalk, streetcar, dance a goofy dance

Black birdy, blue jay, one, two, three, four
Trash sack, jump back, E F G
Biggy hat, little hat, fatty man, skinny man
Grasshopper, green snake, hold my hand

Hoodoo voodoo, chooka chooky choo choo
True blue, how true, kissle me now

I Like Big Boots And I Cannot Lie

I wasn’t much of a boot wearer before I met Jackal Ennui but she certainly changed my foot covering preferences. Between her original releases of romantic, intricately detailed boots to her new mesh releases, I’ve enjoyed all of her inspirations that warm my feet. Continue reading

New York Origami

I love the Designers United events. By focusing designers on a single inspiration, not only do they let us see an idea reimagined in many ways, they also often force designers out of their comfort zones into a new way of thinking about design. DU 19 was an extension of the DU 4 event focused on Narcissus and designers shared creations inspired by some of the alternate choices for inspiration for DU4: metamorphisis, 60s space age or origami. This dress is Anya Ohmai’s creation based on origami and gives us a new iteration of the paper dress.

I shot it at Rez on the land down below the landing point which is on an island anchored by the chain you see in the photo. If you walk to the edge of the island and let yourself fall, you will find yourself down at this very modern Stonehenge.

You can see a more complete picture of Rez here. The landing point is on the island above.

Keep You In The Dark,You Know They All Pretend

I've Got Sunshine On a Cloudy Day

When The Temptations sang that, their sunshine came from “My Girl” but in my case, the sunshine is packaged up in a lovely bundle from Pink Outfitters called the Sierra Bubble Dress. I love the pure unabashed bright sunshine yellow.  The bodice details and belt add playful elements – making this a dress full of joy – and sunshine.

I‘ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it’s cold outside I’ve got the month of May
I guess you’d say

What can make me feel this way?
My dress  (my dress, my dress)
Talkin’ ’bout my dress (my dress)

I  put my dress to the test by stopping by Inis Caiseal – a sim that really demands cloudy windlight settings.  Yes, it passed the test with flying colors – sunshine on a cloudy day.

I’ve got so much honey the bees envy me
I’ve got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees

I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way?
My dress (my dress, my dress)
Talkin’ ’bout my dress (my dress)

I heard that lonesome whistle blow

I was wearing a farm fresh skirt and blouse from enchanty when I stopped by the farm at Surface. I was inpecting the grain elevator waiting for the train to come pick up the harvest.

There’s something melancholy about a railroad track passing by the fields. It reminds me of the old family farm and the railroad running by. During the Great Depression, hobos would stop at the farm for food. They did not know that my grandfather had lost great wealth when his bank collapsed. They didn’t know he voluntarily assumed personal responsibility for the corporate liability – though his other three partners did not. He sold his electric company, lumber mill and other factories in order to make whole every depositor in the bank. They didn’t know that at age 65, he was started over from nothing on a $1/acre work-to-own dairy contract so that every bit of milk was pledged to the local creamery and not available for food for the family. Yet they came, and none were ever turned away unfed. They ate what the family ate – biscuits and gravy made from red dog flour.

The Sea of Grass

Every once in a while, I take a look at AM Radio’s profile picks and check out the installations. While The Quiet and The Far Away stay as permanent exhibits of his amazing skills in environment building, other temporary installations come and go. I stopped by Surface – a wide open prairie after the hay has been cut and baled and the field is in the process of being burned. The prairie installations he creates always give me a sense of home even though I was a stump-jumper, one of those who grew up in the beautiful Northwoods that border the Red River Valley.

There could be no greater emotional contrast than the close, nestling comfort of the forest and the chill, indifference of the prairie vastness. Every time we went to the doctor, the vet or to a larger grocery, we left our forest cocoon for the immensity of the plains. Perhaps because our house was right in the middle of the forest, not in town, that contrast always made me feel very much like a tiny insignificant organism in a near infinite ocean of wheat. Going to visit my sister, there is a small embankment that is the eastern shoreline of the prehistoric Lake Aggassiz that is the true sea of grass that makes up the Red River Valley. The enormity of that vast flatness will always take my breath away. I think if I had actually lived in the Valley I would have succumbed to prairie madness because I prefer the comforting close coziness of the forest, but many in my family live in the Valley and love its never-ending horizon.

Gidge Goes Tomboy…Well Sort Of….

posted by Gidge Uriza

The Rosalie Blazer from Pink Outfitters is a classic female cut blazer that has a really sweet feminine prim attachment – which after I got dressed decided was more girly than I wanted for this look.

Yes you heard me, it was too girly. Please write this day down on your calendar. Continue reading
