B&W Rock Opera?

Aug02_002.jpg

The Niven Collection by Scarlett Niven is primarily an exploration of the vast possibilities of black and white. Yes, there are a few items in the store with color, but by and large, the entire collection is a symphony in black and white. Actually, maybe rock opera is more accurate because the designs are very a la page. Symphony, Rock Opera? What do you think?

This dress I am wearing is called BodyCon and I am not positive what Con stands for but Body Conscious would be a good option. The always fashion forward styles of N-Core make a perfect alliance with Niven Collection clothing.

Another study in black and white is the romantic and stylized China sim – where visitors find themselves within a Chinese watercolor and ink painting.

Porcelain & China

jul29_004.jpg

When I saw the delicate tones of the new Baiastice skins in the Porcelain tone coupled with the delicacy of the lace jacket for this DCNY outfit, I knew exactly where I wanted to shoot – in China. Not the China of hustle, bustle and the Great Wall, but the watercolor China that you can find in the magnificent China sim.

This shot gives you just a small idea of the wonderful photographic opportunities you can find in China. I also played a little bit with perspective, using the CTL-8 lens change to the max to give it a shift in perspective.

It's a Dream

I had planned to shoot four of these gorgeous tops from Orage Creations but SL had other plans. It decided that despite all my plans, I would be a cloud for the day yesterday. Seriously, I tried clearing cache, restarting not just Second Life but also my computer and the SL, SL Beta, SnowGlobe, Kristens, Emerald and Emerald Beta viewers and despite it all, I stayed a cloud.  I finally resolved the issue about midnight, but I was not going to shoot photos that late, so I will have to be content with showing you just the gorgeous zebra Dream Top and let you check out the leopard, snake and fleur (b and white brocade) on your own.  The Orage Creations Main Store was closed for renovations this weekend, but the tops can be found at affiliates in Best of SL, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia. For latest locations check Elettra Gausman’s profile

I shot this set at Third World – home of the Third World Bar and Third World Kino. It’s a beautiful sim with many tiny set pieces of surreality and beauty for you to enjoy.  To get a taste of the amazing scenes at Third World, take a look at the Flickriver stream of interesting photos shot there.

IFW10 – Queen of the Jungle

When I saw the Safari Dress from ROC (Ranena Olivier Couture) at International Fashion Week, my first thought was “Sheena Queen of the Jungle.” So were my second, third and fourth thoughts. This is one hot steamy jungle dress and I knew I wanted to shoot it someplace fierce. With the great timing of Second Life Serendipity, Hybrid Ansar dropped a notecard with some of her favorite landmarks on me yesterday, so I had to see if there was someplace fierce on the list. Oh, my, there surely was.

So here I am at the fierce, fierce, fierce Scorched Earth where you can find an amazing butte that glistens and an active volcano and some eerie fires and the scorched remains of fallen forests. I suppose with the forest burned, that’s why I could not find any leopards to pose with my leopard skin dress – they do like trees, you know.

Expectations 5 – Ritzy Expectations

What to wear to the Ritz? If Sn@tch doesn’t come to mind, your letting yourself get boxed into categories that stifle, rather than catalog. For this Grand Entrance, I mixed two elements from Sn@tch with contemporary accessories that combine for an outfit perfect for a 21st century remake of High Society.  I was thinking High Society, not Philadelphia Story – so the hair is a lovely ponytail from Lamb.

Expectations

Every once in awhile someone produces a list of The Best of  SL Merchants in different categories. For consumers, these lists can be useful lists of new places to check out and a source for ideas of where to look, but there is the downside of short-circuiting you own exploration and the fun of finding new and unique stores. For retailers, the lists are a great boost in building traffic and brand recognition, but there is also a downside of getting pigeon-holed. That certainly has happened with Sn@tch – a store that is often labeled Punk, Goth, Grunge or whatever is the au courant label for Alternative clothing. The category fits, but too tightly – and ignores the wonderful range of mainstream separates and high fashion outfits that you can find at Sn@tch. I thought I might spend a few days highlighting how Sn@tch is much more than the label and do my small part to stretch expectations.

Consider this Uptown outfit from Sn@tch. Yes, with the right accessories, hair and makeup, it could look alternative.  However, it’s a beautifully coordinated and completely mainstream sweater and skirt that is perfectly at home in a museum, a fundraiser or most any event short of a formal ball. It’s simply beautifully done.

The One Where I Learn To Use A HUD

posted by Gidge

Ok I freely admit my own dorkitude on about all counts.

I also admit that prim feet have been my nemesis since the moment the first pair slid onto the grid. I’ve tried this brand and that. I have been epic fail on every count. I did make some BOMB ASS GREEN FEET the other day for a pair of shoes.

Alas, my skin wasn’t green. So that was kind of a fail. But if I had had olive green skin, they woulda been FULL OF WIN.

One of my biggest assets is that I have friends who believe I can do anything. One of my biggest sources of annoyance is that I have friends who think I can do anything. Continue reading

Gogo's 20L Top to Bottom Challenge

Gogo’s Newbie Style Challenge ends today. I would have fared better if SL had not been so crashtastic yesterday. However, I did manage to put together a few looks that work.  This one cost 1L for the hair, all the rest was free. The top comes from Orage Creations and is part of a top and skirt set. I opted for the capris, one of a blue and black fatpack free from Uzuri. The boots are from N-Core and require joining the group for free. The boots can be changed from black to red or white with the click of your mouse. You can also choose multiple colors for the warmers or not wear them at all.
