Gacha Mania

Happy weekend!  The awesome gacha event The Arcade opened, and it seems most of SL (myself included) has gone gacha crazy!  Crazy in the best way, of course.  There are so many amazing items at the event, who could blame us?

The event is being covered everywhere, so I’m not posting anything detailed tonight.  Just a quick shot of some of my favorite scores!

Quietude 2

Sept12_016

When I was wearing that gorgeous purple dress yesterday, I thought this fabulously chic coat that will soon be released by Drift would go so well with it. Certainly, I would wear the two together in a heart beat. The pumpkin of the coat is complementary to the wine in the dress and they would be a natural color combination. Alas, even pairing a large coat with a XS dress, parts of the dress came through in the back and in the elbows. Sure, I could shoot pictures with straight arms facing forward, hiding those flaws, but then as soon as you wore, you would know that the pics were misleading. So the coat needs to be worn with system clothing – a good reason to save the best of your system clothes despite the switch to mesh.

Quietude

Sept12_005

My downstairs neighbor is up to something! I don’t know what but it involves implements of sonic torture — hammers, electric drills and power saws. I tried to distract myself with television and music, but if noise is what’s bothering you, more noise will not cancel it out. It just creates a cacophonous clash where the beauty of the music and the thread of the story are lost. I held my cat for awhile, his upper body resting on my shoulder sheltering one ear with the comfort of his purring, but the electric drill sent him scurrying to hide in the closet. I finally decided to log into Second Life® and shoot some pictures. I had picked up this gorgeous leather dress from MichaMi at The Dressing Room and needed to get it in the can. Because I wanted to shoot it with a coat, I wanted to find a fall sim and checked out Izzie’s – and that is where the magic happened.

I Love Your Outfit

Reverie

I was DJing my usual Sunday morning jazz set at The Velvet when Reverie Boucher, a friend of mine, dropped by wearing an outfit that I just loved. I liked it so much I asked her to let me blog her outfit. What’s funny is that Hybie also blogged the outfit on Monday – though in different colors and styled differently. Goes to show that you can wear the same thing and look very different depending on colors and accessories. The sweater and blouse from Tres Blah are a fabulous piece. In Second Life® as well as in our first life, pieces like these are investment pieces as they can be worn with so many things, casual or dresswear, with pants or skirts.

No, MY Favorite SL Blogs are the Ones to Read !

Mommy's Busy Baby_001

It isn’t a terribly big secret that I don’t spend a LOT of time reading blogs, RL or other. There is probably some irony in there, but the truth is I work full time, I have four children and very busy and active RL. So I make the blogs I do read count, they’re something I am interested in either because of style and content, or because they provide insight and value to me as a blogger.

Gogolita started it off, and even though we’re friends I’m a little fangirly that she named our blog, I thought I’d kick it off to share who it is that I read, when I do read.

In no particular order:

Juicybomb  – Look Gogo’s awesome. She provides clean, clear photos of what is for sale and her vision of the style. She doesn’t get caught up in the artsy fartsy photoshopped hell of creating nothing but pics you can’t sort out. I look at Juicybomb because I am looking for things to BUY. She does great, easy to understand tutorials.

Freestyle – Yeah I still read Freestyle. You should too.

Sasypants – Well styled photos that are again, clean and concise with an eye toward editorial fashion, Sasy is an easy read when I want to see whats new and have a read.  Sasy does great tutorials or informational blogs sometimes too.

Shopping Cart Disco – Because it is an institution. Thats why.

Guerilla Avatar –  Darkley doesn’t know what a good blogger she is. Thus she doesn’t have the baggage some of the so called “THE” blogger types do.  She blogs honestly and from the heart and with passion and honesty for what she loves. I love her style.

Ani’s Second Life: I like her blog because besides cute fashion she always tells little stories with her pics. It’s sweet.

Sylvia Olivier : Her style and swagger is impeccable.

Broke by Payday: On this blog the photography is fun and fashions presented with humor and grace. I always enjoy it.

Insert Funny Name Here : Vaki brings the sexy to androgyny. That’s probably why I want to have sex with her all the time. Plus her style is flawless.

SeraphimSL : At least on Fridays every week.

So, who do you read? I mean besides ME? 🙂

Glamming It Up

sep05_002

I was DJing the other night and decided this new dress from Glam Affair for faMESHed fit the bill perfectly. It comes in pink, mint and black and features a dramatic asymmetrical skirt with a belted empire waist. It really is a lovely dress for dancing though I had to choose relatively simple dances to avoid exposing the alpha texture that made my avatar’s body disappear. Of course, nearly all dresses place some constraints on what dances I use, so that’s no big deal to me.

sep05_010

Speaking of alpha textures. It would be nice if creators made alphas at the absolute minimum size. This skirt stands out a bit from the hips, so I wonder if the alpha could have ended at the waist or at the hip bone rather than continuing down to the thigh. Of course, I was too lazy to make my own, but considering how sexy this dress is, it would be lovely for the sexy lingerie I was wearing to show. It would certainly allow for a more rambunctious dance – perhaps one with a kick or two.

Still Hungering for Mesh

sep03_007

FaMESHed is a monthly showcase of great original mesh content. I have no objection to designers who work with templates to produce new and original versions of more generic designs. I am glad there are options for great texture artists to work in mesh even without the technical expertise needed to produce original mesh work. Still, there is something exciting about an event where you know that every item is an original work. I was pleased to see Rebel Hope participating this month and am in love with the fabulous wool dresses that have been released in advance of the fall season.

sep03_002

The dress is beautifully made with a gorgeous flat self-binding edge around the bodice. This accentuates the shape and highlights the neckline subtly. The fabric is a gorgeous herringbone weave in a light summer wool, making a perfect fall dress that could be worn as a jumper for a blouse or paired with a sweater or jacket – or on a warm day like today, worn on its own. My shoes are from Celoe – a lovely fawn color with a slender heel and a pointed toe. I know podiatrists probably love the round and square toe fashions in shoes of today, but I very much prefer the pointed toe in general. It just feels so much more dressy to me.

You Should Do the Harvest Hunt

aug31_005

Anyone who knows me knows that I do not like hunting for things. Not in RL or SL. I have labeled folders in both lives, labeled drawers and a place for everything and everything in its place. Even my clothes are hung in the closet in ROYGBIV order so I NEVER HAVE TO HUNT for things. So, when I think something is worth hunting for, you can count on it being worthy. And believe me, the skirt from Bilo for the Harvest Hunt is worth hunting for.

aug31_009

It was so worthy it motivated me to get out of my box and go look for a setting as pretty as it is. I found Water Horse. I think it’s worthy.
