Dante

Sometimes the names of outfits confuse me and I try to figure out why they are named what they are. For example, this jacket is named Dante. Well, it is hellfire red, I guess, but other than that, there is nothing hellish about it. In fact, I think it is divine. Hmmm, maybe that’s the reference, though it’s not comedic. Color me confused, but enthralled with this lovely rich and oh-so-luscious jacket.  You can find it at the new-to-me Paper Street Soap Company, a store I stumbled on while looking for another. Those are always the best kind, aren’t they?

While I have your attention, let me also add that Gidge is out of surgery, in recovery and while not ready to dance the cha-cha, the surgery has gone well.

Bauhaus

I like all sorts of art and many artists, but for some odd reason my favorites all have last names beginning with K: Klimpt, Klee and Kandinsky. Isn’t that odd? Of course, it’s not odd that someone who loves Klee also loves Kandinsky as they both taught at the Bauhaus, a relatively short-lived art school that had a tremendously positive influence on art and architecture and even product design. So…when I saw the Kandinsky dress from True La La, it was irresistible. It is made of a sleevless tank, prim skirt and socks – all with marvelous Kandinsky print on them. However, I thought that the three pieces of Kandinsky were too much and decided to take a different road for the skirt.

Black Velvet

In my experience, velvet is one of the trickier textures to do well in our pixel clothing, so I am so pleased with the lovely black velvet and brocade dress from Prelude. Like everything from Prelude, it comes in an over-stuffed folder full of options. In this case, you have every possible layer option and choices of the level of sheerness in the bodice as well as the option of wearing a jacket or not.  Sweet! Don’t those Maitreya shoes stir up the hotness factor as well?

Made For Each Other

I suppose technically these two pieces, the LeeZu sweater and the Mimikri pants, cannot possibly be made for each other, but even if they had been, they could not possibly make a better pairing. White the cream on cream prints are not identical, they are as compatible as they can possibly be.  I think cream and beige and winter whites are some of the most sophisticated colors and when well blended, they create such an urbane and chic look that the more usual black cannot achieve.

Musically Inclined

I cannot claim to be musically inclined although I come from a musical family. My father played banjo and sang in a Swedish folk band and on my mother’s side there are generations of professional musicians from opera singers to Grand Ole Opry stars. And I cannot carry a tune. It’s so unfair. Still, I love music and enjoy it in all its manifestations. Moxie Polano’s Piano dress is certainly a celebration of music – an extravagant celebration from the curving piano keys to the tiny little notes embellishing the shoulder.

In a blue mood

So, I was in a blue mood today and I don’t mean unhappy, soulful or sad. No, I just wanted some blue clothes and blue jewelry and to play me some blues on ITunes. So I put on some Gatemouth Brown and rooted around in the semi-organized chaos I call my inventory.  The first thing I pulled out were the stockings from League. Now, I know you don’t start an outfit from the stockings, but I didn’t care, I wanted to wear them and I knew I could find something to suit. Sure enough, this skirt from Sugar Cube was perfect, so it was simply a matter of finding a shirt, some accessories and I would be good to go.

The Start of Something Big

There’s more than green beer to look forward to on St. Patrick’s Day this year. At 5 pm that day, Ryker Beck will release her new Genesis Eden skins to the general public.  Many of you know Ryker Beck for her outstanding photography and her jewelry line. She has always been generous with tips and tutorials on her web site for those seeking to improve their SL photo skills. As a photographer first – I think she has brought a special understanding to the art of skin creation.  And for those of us plurkers, we have followed the process of creating Eden from alpha to omega. Today you will probably see the 8 different shades this skin comes in all across the fashion blogs – because it’s an exciting new skin.
