If you go out in the woods today

may13_003

I adore the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, but sadly I did not catch any in the woods at Villefranche, but I have to say the short path through the trees is a stunning little walk. I am wearing a cute strapless dress from Indie Rose with perhaps the best fitted belt ever made. Well, for me at least. The dress is one of the three Indie Rose made for Culture Shock, so be sure to go check it out and support Médecins Sans Frontières while you’re at it.

Ephidryades

may06_015

I don’t know what ephidryades are and Google failed me, but one thing I do know, it’s a beautiful dress and the top is as ethereal and delicate as dragonfly wings. I blogged the dress the other day and mentioned I was likely to mix the top up with other items since Sissy Pessoa took care to make the top with a bottom to tuck in. When I saw the skirt from Magoa’s Lilac English Rose dress, I knew I found a great mix and match skirt to wear with it for a shorter option. The skirt has a similar black on black brocade texture that makes a very congruent look. Even better, both are for the Culture Shock fundraiser, so get over there! I went again yesterday and although there were several people there I turned them off so lag did not kill me. Just go to Advance Menu and type in RenderAvatarMaxVisible and lower from the default of 35 to something low like 2 or 3.
UPDATE: Sissy explained that it Ephydryades and means sweet water nymph which totally makes sense when you look at the collar. Continue reading

Mad World

may05_007

The Ephidryades dress from Baiastice is stunning. I especially love the top and her effort in providing the lower part of the top even though the skirt hides that. This means you can mix it up with other clothing.

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers

I uploaded this windlight setting. The download link is further down in the post.

Avenue’s Couture of Hope fashion extravaganza for Relay for Life opens today at noon SLT. The 40 participating designers were asked to create a piece that embodies their vision of a “season of hope.” Entre Mares created this stunning piece that immediately brought Emily Dickinson’s beautiful poem to mind. Hope is the thing with feathers...

Without Borders

apr27_011

Before I became ill, I would get a call every two or three months to meet with a delegation of people touring the US with the State Department’s International Visitors Program. Generally the people I met with were activists in their own countries working to advance democracy and human rights or elected and appointed leaders in newly formed democracies. I would talk about activism and organizing, explain how we choose issues, organize volunteers and our efforts to combat racism, sexism and economic oppression in the United States. It’s hard to explain the excitement of teaching Get Out The Vote methods and strategies to someone preparing for their countries very first election in 41 years or discussing ways to frame gender oppression issues in terms of widely held values with women activists advocating for women’s rights in Afghanistan, Somalia and Pakistan, but it is intoxicating. These are people who risk far more than I ever will to make fundamental changes in the lives of their people.

A firm believer in the pedagogy of the oppressed as a teaching method, I learned as much from the visitors as they learned from me. One of the most inspiring and fascinating visitors was a volunteer at Médecins Sans Frontières who lead their work against human trafficking. Before I met him, I knew trafficking existed, but had no idea how extensive it is. MSF, or Doctors Without Borders, won the Nobel for their work providing aid to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. It’s exciting that the huge fashion event Culture Shock that begins on May 1st will be raising funds for this wonderful and courageous worldwide charity.

There will be 174 stores participating in this huge event – all producing three exclusive items for the event and donating 50-100% of sales to MSF.  In today’s outfit, the dress and hair are items you will be able to find at Culture Shock. Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice created this stunning Mattina dress for Culture Shock. It comes in several colors but I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful parfait colored dress – the hot colors version of the dress. I shot the pictures at Dragonfly, a magical sim where you cannot shoot a bad picture.

Summer Days

apr26_013

It’s not summer in real life yet, but in Second Life it’s always summer (or winter, fall or spring) when you want summer. When I saw these adorable shorts from Zaara I knew I wanted to take a spin out on the Linden Ocean and luckily the new MiaMai top for Culture Shock was a great option to wear with the shorts.

apr26_001

On my second or third day in Second Life, I went to Enkythings and bought this old boat for one linden. It is one of my favorite purchases. I have taken it out and boated around the Linden Ocean since the beginning. My first home was a rental on the Ocean and then I bought 512 at Glookbone in November 2007 and have had land there ever since so I could go boating. There are fancier boats that react to the Linden winds and require you to do more than point, but they’re not for me. I don’t want to have to do much more than point and go there.

Diamonds & Gold

apr25_018

Chantal - a magnificent gown from Sissy Pessoa's new collection.

The broken glass
And the rusty nails
Where the violets grow
Say goodbye to the railroad
And the mad dogs of summer
And everything that I know

apr25_030

The opulent steampunk castle at Elonia seemed a perfect place to shoot the diamonds and gold.

What some men will do here for diamonds
What some men will do here for gold
They’re wounded but they just keep on climbin’
And they sleep by the side of the road

Cherry Blossoms

Apr21_009

The most exciting thing about events like Chic Limited is how creators can reify a single inspiration into a fascinating collection that illustrates perfectly that art is the expression of individuality. This month’s inspiration was Cherry Blossom and the collection ranges from softly feminine petal-adorned dresses to the pop art bold graphic style of this babydoll from So Many Styles.

As you can see, I had fun running around MiC Musee de Roma Capitale art installation to shoot my pics. I also used Windlight settings by CodeBastard Redgrave for thee beautiful red sky that really brought the art to life.

Where Sailors Fear To Tread…

I was going to invite all of you into the caverns that Mermaid Gidge calls home, but then I realized you were depending on that thing called oxygen. Why you’d turn blue and float to the top.

And then you’d be no fun to play with at all. Well, a little fun.

So it’ll be a photo-safari instead. Are you ready? Then follow me. Continue reading
