The Secret Garden

Happy Mood is such a delightful store. It’s hard to describe because it sells such a mix of items, but if you want one word,  it’s a store that sells whimsy. Whimsy is the defining word for the secret garden at Happy Mood – a multi-level mixture of culvert tunnels, trees, flowers and fun. When I put on this fun Vive La Bohome dress from Modern Gypsy, I immediately though of whimsy and that made me go to Happy Mood for the photos.

Surprise!

The Darda dress from Lelutka is a delightful surprise of a dress – though probably not the way you think. If you give it a quick glance, it’s very tailored with an elegant blouse suitable for any boardroom and a skirt that, except for its length, is a beautifully tailored and professional looking style. There’s a lot of elegance in this dress, but those four word “except for its length” matter quite a bit because this is a dress with high cut glitch pants that flash your assets. Surprise!

People Say Thanks In The Sexiest Ways

Bastet Hazelnut recently asked for ideas of places to shoot pictures on plurk and since I have a notecard that I save landmarks for nice spots to shoot pictures with notes about permissions, I passed it over to her. It’s out of date and I keep promising myself I will spend the 2 or 3 days of teleporting around that it would take to clean it up, but dang it, everytime I try I get so many failed tp’s. Today I spent nearly an hour trying to update and check landmarks and made a total of four successful teleports. This was after taking care not to wear scripted hair, jewelry and shoes so that scripts would not be hanging me up. Argggh! However, it you want a copy of your own, just IM me in-world and I will pass it to you.

Bastet very kindly sent me a thank you gift – this gorgeous lace lingerie set. I could not resist shooting it right away because it was just so frilly and fun. People say thanks in the sexiest ways like giving a guide on rabbit vibrators as a gift! The name of her store is NUT and now I owe her an apology because the instant I read that, I immediately thought of a song my older sister would sing to me when I was a kid. Of course, I think she owes me an apology for getting that song stuck in my head. I want to share the pain, but will warn you that this song burns brain cells.

Dressing Backwards

Generally speaking I choose what clothes I am going to wear before I choose my jewelry or my shoes or anything else. That went out the window the other night when my friend Abraxxa Anatine of EarthStones sent me the new Tiana necklace and earrings in coral. The instant I saw it I knew what I had to wear with it – a dress I had seen at Modern Gypsy the week before but had not purchased in a futile attempt to manage my budget. I tp’ed over to Modern Gypsy and checked out the dress to see if I remembered correctly. Yes! It was perfect for highlighting the marvelous necklace as you can see here.

Passionate for Passionnement

The most important people in the fashion industry are not the designers, the models, the magazine editors or the bloggers. They all have roles that play a part in the industry, but the industry would not exist without the customers whose passion for fashion is the foundation and sustenance for the entire industry. Friend and blog reader, XiuLan Quan is one of those with that passion for fashion – so much so that she contacted me last night to urge me to feature a dress from A la Folie that she fell in love with – even offering to gift me with it. Instead I had a better idea and asked her to pop over where I was shooting and let me shoot her and feature the dress with her as guest stylist. The dress, which you can see here, is Passionnement from A la Folie – the brainchild of Pixivor Allen.

IF TEAM USA WINS – I GET THE HEART OF ADAM ANT!

posted by Gidge Uriza

Reasonable Desires has WORLD CUP FAN outfits out at their mainstore location for 1L a piece. I just had to break out this TEAM USA outfit that my friend Austie dropped on me in honor of a wager I have going with Prad Prathivi!

I’ve offered up some genuine Georgia Praline Pecans if  England kicks the ass of  Team USA. I’ve suggested he bring me the heart of Adam Ant if we win. But I also said I’d accept some candy instead. Continue reading

CANDY GOES BOOM – Without the Aid of Photoshop

posted by Gidge Uriza

Yes, I’m still a kitteh. But I thought I’d take this opportunity to dispell a weird rumour I heard going around. It’s about photoshop, and bloggers.

Some bloggers do use it, I know for a fact and hell, even my best friend and blog partner Cajsa uses it on occasion to artsy up her shots. There are a lot of uses for it that improve the quality of our pics, and I gotta say……….

I wish I had it. Continue reading

Red

I remember consulting with image experts for a new branding campaign for an organization several years ago. Our logo and materials were all red and white and the consultants wanted us to add blue. I wanted to avoid using exploitative associations with the flag to attract support. The consultants explained that red, white and blue ad campaign color really had nothing to do with the flag, but with trying to draw both genders. Women are drawn to red and men to blue and it’s likely that our membership was 65% women was due as much to our color choices as our program. Well, that’s not true, there is a gender gap on social and economic policy, but adding blue did result in increasing the percentage of men in the organization to around 40%. I think that’s just wild that a color could do that, but I have to acknowledge that I am much more drawn to red than to blue – especially a rich cardinal red like this one in the adorable new blouse from Modern Gypsy which I have paired with an old pencil skirt from Ingenue.

The Wheat! The Wheat!

Long ago and far away I read a book  called The Octopus by Frank Norris – a story of the exploitation of the wheat growers of California. It’s central truths, though, were as applicable to the farmers of the Midwest that I knew and their history that lead to the creation of the Grange and the Farmers Union – so I have a soft spot in my heart for that book, even though it is not very well written. One of the most memorable things about the book for me were the occasional bits of expository meanderings that began “The Wheat! The Wheat!” I saw those four words and knew it was here-we-go-again time.  “The Wheat! The Wheat!” has forever been able to send me into a fit of giggles ever since. So, of course, this post featuring the lovey butterdish sim and this glorious combine has that phrase running through my head.

You might wonder what wheat fields and countrified clothing have to do with Adam n Eve’s glorious gold metallic skin  with the face a motherboard must love, but I posit that for a wheat farmer, the techno-riffic skin is a better match than the League’s booty shorts – no matter how cute they are with the paint splatters and the too long pockets. Threshing is dusty scratchy work and anyone operating a combine in their right mind would wear long jeans. Farming, on the other hand, demands an immediacy of information that makes farmers some of the most wired people you can find and that skin is wired.

Commentary with a Dash of Glitter

Callie Cline released a cotton-candy sweet confection called the little glitter dress. Perfect name. It’s little, especially in length and it glitters with all the soft pastels of spring. I adore the dress and thought it was perfect for the softly romantic new Chloe skin from Exile.
