IFW10 – Cloud Nine

International Fashion Week 2010 sponsored by Glance Internation began today and will continue through the 18th with 5 fashion shows each day. Can you imagine the excitement and all the great fashion on display? Just to give you an idea, take a look at this IFW10 Exclusive design from G Sloane Couture. It’s called Cloud Nine and wearing makes a person feel like they are floating on Cloud Nine with its fresh creme de menthe color that should make even the Grinch smile.

The dress is a hot weather and sunshine dress and made me think of villas and sunshine and the Greek islands and so I went to Armenelos – a new sim in the multi-sim Calas Galadhon parks. Yes, parks created just for people to enjoy – no stores, no rentals, just pure pleasure.  It’s a beautiful complex if white stucco houses with stairs and sidewalks that wind and meander like an ancient village up the mountain. It’s pure pleasure which means it’s a Greek version of Cloud Nine.

Expectations 3 – High Expectations

This third look at how Sn@tch clothing passes beyond the Alternative label explores a fun mash-up that very editorial and high fashion. The basis is the Swirl & Swing outfit – a top and skirt outfit. I used just the skirt, though, opting to finally try out that Boudoir Black Lace Bodysuit that has been tempting me for the past month.

You could search the grid for a year and not find a better complement to the Boudoir bodysuit than Sn@tch’s fabulous Swirl and Swing skirt in black. The soft voile and lace over the opaque sculpty skirt has the perfect contrast to the lace so that it does not get lost – but also does not overwhelm. Sure a plain black skirt could work, but this is more interesting and more exciting. I love the William Morris-inspired print contrasting with the more baroque lace.

Back to Flashmans

Flashmans was a seedy speakeasy of a club that has recently re-opened – to all our great good fortune. It’s a delightful place – an opium den – a bawdy place and one that demands a certain sort of dress such as this Noir SinSin from LeeZu, with the emphasis on the SinSin.

Flashmans is a place for discreet rendezvous with mysterious women who pass coded messages in whispered conversations at the bar.

Go in the mood to explore and to play – jump on the orbiting dance balls, swing on the cabaret swing or sit on bubbles or smoke some bubbles. It’s a place of wit, whimsy with more than a dash of “cigareets, whiskey and wild, wild women.”

Dancing in a Field of Stars

Lizzie Lexington is a great source of ideas for places to explore in Second Life. She’s an intrepid sim explorer, always finding new and fun places.  I was all set to shoot this dress the other night and she im’ed and asked if I have been to see the Hybrid Productions sim build yet. It was on my to-do list, but I decided that if she was following up, it had to be better than usual so I popped over there and in one of those moments of SLerendipity – it was the perfect place to shoot the dress I was wearing, much better than my original plan.

Actually, it’s not a dress exactly. It’s a fun little mash-up mixing the new Baiastice Arina swimsuit with the LeeZu WhiteStar skirt. Seriously, could I have found any place better? The thing is, if you want to see it, you need to go quickly as the sim closes after July 11th. It’s been created for the launch party of a new album. You can see the details here.  Go while you can – and shoot lots of pretty pictures, because it is beautiful.

Hot Weather Blues

It’s too darn hot!
It’s too darn hot!
I’d like to sup with my baby tonight,
Refill the cup with my baby tonight.
I’d like to sup with my baby tonight,
Refill the cup with my baby tonight,
But I ain’t up to my baby tonight
‘Cause it’s too darn hot

It’s too darn hot for much of anything – even sitting at the computer to blog this is too darn hot. Dressing for the heat – in the lovely new releases from Indyra Originals – there’s some relief in the hot weather clothes – but it’s still too darn hot.

I Love Olive

I do love olive – in all its forms. I love the color – it’s earthy and comfortable. I love the fruit – the rich, fatty, meaty olives that are so, so dangerous. I love the oil brushed on a flat piece of dough with some zaatar spice mix or drizzled with vinegar in salad or in a hundred other ways. I even like Olive Oyl. And in this outfit, I get to love twice – in the gorgeous pullover from Moonshine Designs and in the I Love Olive hair I am wearing.

Peaches, Cream & Candy

Although my favorite color is green, I don’t always choose the green colored dress since some greens can be tricky to style, but peachy coral colored dresses are irresistible for me. You cannot go wrong. Peach is such a feminine and soft color that always makes me feel good and look good. This lovely dress is a perfect complement to the peaches and cream complexion of PXL Creations Pale Candy skin tone that was released today.

With the release of Pale, all of the Candy skin tones  (Tan, Light Tan, Sunkissed, Natural and Pale) have finally been released. The Pale tone is a delicate porcelain – fairest of the fair. The particular option I am wearing is with natural eyes and lips – as bare as it comes and it’s still a beautifully delicate skin.

Tornado Alley

Second Life has its own version of Tornado Alley @ napoliy  – that marvelous vintage furnishing store. It was the place I thought of when I saw this Karen dress from L’Abel with the lovely print of a miniature on the skirt. The dress, while as modern in form and fabric as can be, is an homage to the past with its use of a 19th century miniature in the print. The subdued earthy colors made me think of the odd light in the air before a tornado that subdues even the most vivid colors.

Napoliy is actually a small parcel that is closed off with large prims of the gathering storm, a perpetually incipient funnel cloud preparing to rampage through the small village. I love the mood of the looming menace – particularly as I know this storm is always about to rage, but never actually does. Having grown up in tornado country and spent many hours in the cellar waiting for the all clear, it’s lovely to be able to experience and recall that awful clarity and silence right before the the roaring train whistle of a tornado.  Just before the tornado sweeps in, even the frogs and crickets silence themselves in anxious anticipation.
