Feeling Drowsy

0210_002

I have been feeling drowsy lately, especially this morning. So why not make a stop at the Drowsy sim so I can indulge in complete drowsiness? That’s what I did and found the perfect setting to highlight the fabulous peridot dress from The Sea Hole at Collabor88.

What's Black and White and Re(a)d All Over?

Jan08_008

I like red, white and black – or shades of gray and red. When I put this outfit together, for some reason that childhood riddle popped into my head. If for some reason, you don’t know the answer, it’s a newspaper. I wonder if the internet will make that riddle obsolete? Anyway, I am black and white and red all over with this outfit made with pieces from Peqe’s summer and Christmas collection and a sweater from Alexohol. The sweater is lovely and I love the quirky irregularity of the buttons that remind me of when I have sewn on buttons. The top is from Peqe’s Christmas release and I love it with the flared pants from Summer.

1963 – The Year that Gave Us Doctor Who

Oct12_021b

1963 was a seminal year in American life.  It was the year of the Kennedy Assassination – a moment like 9/11 where everyone alive then can tell you what they were doing at the moment they learned of it. It was also the year that brought us Doctor Who and the release of the first Beatles album.  1963 will be celebrated in all its glory tonight at theRock per Annum event at the Velvet. Exploring the development of rock from 1960 to 2012, each week focuses on the music of just one year. It’s been a fascinating process so far because the music for each year is so much fuller and more varied than one expects.

My Interest is Piqued

sep28_002

Peqe has a marvelous mini-collection at Modavia Fashion Week full of classic, a gray rainbow of modern silhouettes in black, white and gray. I was distracted, though, when the emcee pronounced Peqe as in peck, where my inner ear had always though it would be pronounced like peek or pique. Thankfully, I don’t have to know how to pronounce it to wear it.  One of the design details that show that Inex Hax, the designer is better than most doesn’t show in my pictures. With the bold triangle at the front, most would either repeat the triangle at the back or leave the back plain, instead she made a broad, bold vertical stripe. It’s a small thing, but it shows that she doesn’t settle for the ordinary and banal.

Make It Quick

aug23_008

I am going to make this quick because I have friends on their way over shortly. Here’s another fabulous item from the Platinum Hunt – a super-sexy dress from Magoa. While we all have seen dresses with a similar open-work style, it’s really cool to see it in a print.

Bandana Day

bandana day_006

One of the great elements of Hair Fair is that it asks for more participation from us than just shopping, blogging or building. Each year, it asks all of us to take off our hair and don a bandana in solidarity with those who are going through cancer treatment and losing their hair. Hair is very precious to us. Most of us when asked to describe ourselves, start with our hair color Our hairstyles are our signs to the world, communicating our interests, tastes and values. When people lose their hair, that signifier that said they are chic, or sporty, or rebellious is lost and replaced with a new signifier – Cancer Patient.
Bandana Day 2011
That is why Wigs For Kids is such a critical support to children who are going through cancer treatment. Children are already struggling to establish their identity, to individuate – and when cancer treatment robs them of such a critical signifier as hair, it’s important to restore that as best we can.

Looking Fresh In 1891

apr29_008

After reading about the Legacies 1891 sims in Honour McMillan’s blog yesterday, I had to run over there for a shoot. Thankfully, they allow you to join a group and wear an observer’s tag so you can be safe from zombies and Jack the Ripper. It’s an eerie place and I thought its grim danger might be a striking contrast to the cheery spring joie de vivre of my outfit.

apr29_013

I was not joking about the zombies. They sounded so scary! By the way, this sim cleverly has a tip jar to remind visitors to help support its continued existence. I try to remember to tip sim owners when I visit for a shoot – if they haven’t placed a tip jar reminder, I just pay a flower or a tree. We all benefit from these wonderful public sims and so many are disappearing. I know each little tip is a drop in the buck of tier, but buckets do get filled by drips and drops.
