An Investment Dress

sep25_004

The Shimmy Dress from ICING is one of those wardrobe foundations that you can build a wardrobe around. It has all the hallmarks of an investment dress – a classic silhouette that is never out of style, multiple layer options to coordinate with other clothing, colors that work in every season, and quality construction that is deceptively simple. These are qualities that make a dress take on a different mood as its styled with different accessories.

This is the dress for the quick change artist in you. In this post I will show you how easy it is to take a good investment dress and make several looks from high fashion to funky bohemian to vintage classic, all with a few accessory changes. Don’t for a second think this was all, either. I had several other possibilities in mind, but thought five was more than enough to make the case for this investment dress.  There are many investment pieces out there. While not making it an official “challenge” I would love to see what ideas you have for investment purchases that build a versatile wardrobe.

So Much Goodness

Shiki Japonesqe

Shinichi Mathy, of Shiki, released a sweetly feminine collection at Modavia Fashion Week. Using a gentle palette of blues and greens with dainty and delicate prints, there are threads from his native Japan woven into this collection. From the straight lines of his gowns to the delicate textures and fine fabrics, you can see him paying homage to his culture in this collection in ways as subtle and delicate as the clothing itself. This one is called Japonesque.

SHIKI Kyoto Dress

The fabric in the Kyoto dress show a much more direct inspiration. I love the soft, organic colors and the subtlety of this print.

Shiki Motomachi Girl

The Motomachi Girl dress is  beautiful gown that hugs the figure. I love the sheer batiste bodice and collar and the soft, natural green.

Ginza Party Girl

And then there is the Ginza Party Girl dress, an explosion of blue fireworks and femininity that like much of this collection draws your eyes to the neck and shoulders.

Well they’ve started making boots in mesh and really, is it my fault that I’d sell my pinkie toe for hot boots? No. No it’s not. Adam N Eve released via AnE Meshworks a set of thigh high GIVE IT TO ME ALL NIGHT BIG DADDY style of boots and ZOMG they come in colors. Continue reading

Modavia Fashion Week 2011.08

Gabriel Cherie @ Modavia Fashion Week

I enjoyed the show from Gabriel for Modavia Fashion Week. It featured menswear and womenswear. The womenswear was dominated by sculpted little cocktail dresses like this one in different colors. I have some great jackets from Gabriel, but these new cocktail dresses are a move in a more frivolous direction and I love it.

Sparkle

aug31_004

The Cloud 9 dress from Icing had such a lovely sparkle that I had to find the right setting to show it off. I hopped around exploring new places for about 40 minutes before deciding to go back to the wonderful, tried and true, Embryo.

Embryo is such a beautiful sim and so romantically lush with flowers and that gorgeous rich, red draping that I am in love with.

Northern Lights & The Last Day of The Platinum Hunt

I think Cajsa already blogged the Kunglers gorgeous cheongsam inspired dress but I can’t resist a Cheongsam. My inner voice always tells me to wear a cheongsam because they are so elegant and hug every girly curve.

I hear some boys like them too. On girls. Continue reading

The Geometry of Sound

aug27_003

Of course I had to check out SL 3.0 and mesh clothing. I was curious about how it looked, how it behaved and needed to see more than someone else’s experience to really understand it. The moment it clicked for me was when I tried to click the edit window, not to edit it but to move it just a mm higher and discovered when the say you cannot edit it, they really mean you cannot edit it. I had presumed they just meant I could not resize it for my shape, which is also true. Luckily for me, the large size Jane skirt fit my shape, though giving me more booty than I am used to. I only wanted to raise it a hair because of the belt, not the skirt itself. I edited the belt instead, turning it a bit so its orientation didn’t have it cut into the skirt.
