Memento Mori

Aug04_007.jpg

Memento Mori is a specific art piece – in any style or genre – that has the specific purpose of reminding us of our mortality. It says “Remember you must die.” The gown I am wearing is called Ange (Angel) and its rose color and loving detail is more a celebration of life, I thought it might be interesting to shoot it in the white on white Memento Mori – a complex and stunning cathedral build all in white that is alive with light shining through the countless windows.

As a reminder of mortality, a cathedral is an obvious choice. It is where the rites of life’s passage happen from christening to burial, the parentheses of life. It also evokes the immortal promise of the sacred for those who share that belief. Generally, the immensity of a cathedral reminds us of our own insignificance as well as our mortality. The Memento Moril build at ChouChou V succeeds on all levels.

The Week of Yummy Goodness

I had my birthday this week – which meant Angel Food Cake and Stawberries & Cream. Yummy goodness I limit to once a year. It was amazingly good and I had two slices!! Add to that the arrival of Belleza’s Elle and Zaara’s new retro-hot lingerie and last week was definitely a week of yummy goodness.

Now, I am not a skin reviewer who goes along the seam lines looking for flaws – though from what I can tell, if I did I would find none. I judge skins on how they make me feel and how I look. I don’t like to edit my shape – and prefer skins that keep my looking like me – just with different makeups and emphasis/shades.  Belleza is perfect for that.

Imperially Elegantly Peachy

I love this new blouse from Kunglers. What’s not to like? It has a delightfully cinched waist with a gorgeous belt. Incidentally, the skirt comes with the same belt in case you want to wear a different blouse or wear this blouse tucked in. It’s got lovely full sleeves with sheer fabric. It’s finished with gorgeous satin ribbon on the edgess – the bottom, the sleeves and the collar. Best of all, I love the print – a chocolately brown with flowers and leaves in olive and a lovely rosy peach. It’s yummy and isn’t it great that Kunglers produced it in four other colors as well.

Get Your Motor Running

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way

Okay, so the lyrics of Born to Be Wild should not be what I think of when wearing a vintage pencil skirt, sweater or a houndtooth trench coat, but guess what – they are.

But seriously, this clothing only sounds staid and sober. It looks hot and it is born to be wild.

Goodnight Moon

I love the cool light of the moon illuminating my shots and frequently shoot in the moonlight. Nonetheless, while shooting this fabulous outfit from Dutch Touch, the song running through my head was Goodnight Moon, the anthem of the scared-of-the-dark crowd.  Perhaps it’s because of the Kill Bill 2 soundtrack. The strong look of the dress, the options of black, red or gray (shown) and the tough girl look of the dress have just a bit of the edge that might have someone sleeping with guns, a blade by the bed and a phone in hand.

Well goodnight moon
I want the sun
If its not here soon
I might be done
No it wont be too soon til I say
Goodnight moon

Gray & Gorgeous

There’s a lot of gray on the grid today as people show solidarity with an effort raise awareness of brain cancer by wearing gray for the day. Cancer is an invidious and heartbreaking disease that can best be defeated by increased awareness which often leads to early detection. Too many of us ignore warning signs and for some, that delay is deadly. I lost my brother to lung cancer in July. Like so many who lose the battle with cancer, he ignored warning signs and dismissed symptoms with mundane explanations – never considering the possibility that it could be cancer until it was so advanced as to be untreatable.  America lost Sen. Kennedy to brain cancer last month and we are poorer for it.  I doubt any of us have lived lives untouched by cancer.  I am happy to lend my support to this worthy cause as well.

I don’t know if a dress as gorgeous as this should count toward that effort, however, since it’s one dress I would happily wear any day of the year.  The lovely Mimikri Seduction Dress in gray is just achingly beautiful.  It’s a lovely silvery gray lace over a satin sheath with an extravagant lace bow in the back. The sheath is opaque over the torso and hips and becomes increasingly sheer as the skirt moves from the hips to mid-thigh.  It comes with a prim sash as well, but I preferred how it looks without the sash.

Peachy-Keen

Beauty Avatar’s Blogger Appreciation gift came in one of my favorite colors – peach. Such a wise choice as it’s one of the colors that suit any complexion and so would look good on all the bloggers who received it. Though to doubly assure that, they tossed in a lovely peachy skin of their own.

A little seahorse

I was listening to Devandra Banhart last night as I was shooting and he kind of makes me think of colors and pastels and mashing things up in a playful way and this is what I ended up with. The top comes from a pink dress (most of my pink tops come from dresses since I accidentally deleted my entire folder of pink blouses) from New Zero aka PixelDolls. It’s a very sweet top with a lovely green ribbon prim in the back. The skirt is from hanamachi and is delightfully springlike.

Happy Holidays!

Hoping all of you who celebrate Passover or Easter have a wonderful holiday with family, friends and fellowship.  In celebration, I thought I might dress like an easter egg. 🙂 Actually, this is TOSL’s wonderful High Tea dress perfect for the garden party or other celebrations of spring and sunshine. Gidge would also be sending her good wishes but is on holiday.

Fashionable Relay Challenge #30

How many of us thought it would take more than two months to work our way through the Fashionable Relay Challenge – and that we have is testament to the inspiration and guiding force behind the challenge Sasy Scarborough – and she will surely see us through to the end. I have enjoyed seeing the varied but always well-executed outfits throughout the challenge, but none more so than Elisabeth of Ou la la mode, so I was very pleased when Sasy asked me to pick up the baton after her. So, her outfit has several elements that I would love to build an outfit from including the jeans, vest, belt, hair and shoes. I ran around checking them out and finally decided on the Wide Belt Embossing from Coco because I needed a good casual prim belt.
