I only have two speeds when it comes to horns. Total disinterest or SQUEEEEE ! Yeah I know, it’s the usual blogger malady of being too enthusiastic about something. But perhaps you’d feel differently if I explained why these horns HAVE THE AWESOME so hard? Continue reading

1967
1967 was the prelude to the Summer of Love. Rolling Stone published its first issue. Ralph Nader came to the attention of the public with his book “Unsafe at any Speed” which launched consumer activism. Gas was 33 cents a gallon. Radio London started broadcasting. And Scott McKenzie sang “If you’re going to San Franciso,” the anthem calling youth to the Monterey Pop Festival. Resistance to the Vietnam War was growing and Muhammed Ali was stripped of his heavyweight boxing title for refusing induction into the army. The Beatles released Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Clubs Band and the Magical Mystery Tour and Kurt Cobain was born. You can come to 1967 at The Velvet tonight from 7 to 9 SLT as Maht Wuyts continues his Rock per Annum tour of the last 52 years of music.
Inspired by the San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in your Hair) song, I decided to wear this Flower Children outfit from Gizza. You can find it at the Vintage Fair in two colors. This is the red one – as bright and vibrant as the music that played at the Monterey Pop Festival. The outfit includes the top, pants and the crocheted shrug and all have resize scripts to help you fit them.

An Investment Dress
The Shimmy Dress from ICING is one of those wardrobe foundations that you can build a wardrobe around. It has all the hallmarks of an investment dress – a classic silhouette that is never out of style, multiple layer options to coordinate with other clothing, colors that work in every season, and quality construction that is deceptively simple. These are qualities that make a dress take on a different mood as its styled with different accessories.
This is the dress for the quick change artist in you. In this post I will show you how easy it is to take a good investment dress and make several looks from high fashion to funky bohemian to vintage classic, all with a few accessory changes. Don’t for a second think this was all, either. I had several other possibilities in mind, but thought five was more than enough to make the case for this investment dress. There are many investment pieces out there. While not making it an official “challenge” I would love to see what ideas you have for investment purchases that build a versatile wardrobe.
Modavia Fashion Week 2011.14
One of the reasons I love Modavia Fashion Week is that the process of preparing a collection for a show is far different than preparing weekly or monthly releases. Releases can stand on their own and how one outfit relates to another is immaterial. A collection however demands that the pieces work together to form an integrated whole. Strangely enough, by adding the constraint of making the clothes work together as a while, we get more innovation and imagination from the designers, not less. Sometimes, it take limits to free the imagination. That’s why we often get such fresh and extraordinary designs in runway shows. The designers’ imaginations have been set afire by the need to create 12 designs that express a singular vision.
Monica Outlander, the genius behind MiaMai, is perhaps the best exemplar of this at work. Her runway shows are highly anticipated and filled to capacity because everyone knows it will be a show, an extravaganza of art, music and design coming together synergistically. Synergy is such an overused term, but only because people use it recklessly as though cooperation and coordination were synergy.
Azul Limited Edition Gowns: Jeanie
Azul has released a dizzying array of limited edition amazing evening and cocktail wear for the fashionista who is getting the pre-emptive jump on the social season the holidays will bring on us all.
Amazing evening gowns abound in this collection and I’m leading off a short series of posts with this one, Jeanie which caught my eye immediately. Elegant and fun, I always love shades of blue for gowns. I don’t always wear a lot of blue and every time I put it on I wonder why. Continue reading
