My next guest stylist on It’s Only Fashion is DJ Anubis Darkwatch who apparently owns every song ever meant to be streamed in SL. Event after event after event you’ll see his name popping up as a featured DJ. Dubstep? 80s Night? Disco? DISNEY Dubstep? Retro industrial metal as covered by the Pixies in a basement in Prague? No matter, Anubis is spinning and socializing. Continue reading
The strangest idea has gained currency over the past few centuries to the point that the majority of people on the planet are flat out wrong about one of the most basic facts of life: Fairies do exist. People don’t often see fairies and they move faster than hummingbird wings, but I am certain every single one of you reading this post have caught a flash of movement in the corner of your eye, but when you looked, you could not see what it was. Well, that was a fairy. Of course, fairies do come to rest and that’s when you can really see them. Sadly, though, most of us are not looking in the right direction. We are such an earthbound people we forget to look up to see what is right there in front of our eyes.
Fairies are much more common in trees than on the ground. After all, they are often barefoot. They don’t want to get their feet muddy and wet because they can catch colds. When fairies catch cold, the whole world shudders from the force of their sneezing. Those people who deny the science of global climate change are unknowingly onto something. The fairy world has been beset with colds and flus as their immune system becomes weakened by human skepticism and disbelief. As an alternative to conserving fossil fuels and reducing our carbon imprint, we merely have to all of us begin believing in fairies.

Samara Barzane is a friend and fellow blogger (The 3 Fashionteers) who braved the dangers of volunteering to be a guest stylist. But you know, that’s one of the defining characteristics of Samara for me – she’s game to do anything. When there’s a roll call of people to volunteer, she steps forward. I tp’ed her up to my platform to see her outfit and knew immediately where I wanted to shoot.

I saw that fabulous combination of the form-fitting cashmere sweater with the floaty sheer tulle skirt and the magnificent tights and immediately thought of China – the black and white sim. Setting windlight to Strawberry Singh’s fabulous Silver setting, I started snapping away.
I think I have the best ex-boyfriends a girl could possibly want. One of my favorites is Vogel, or more officially Schrottvogel Wei. I met him long ago when I was looking for a custom-made surfboard and we have been friends ever since. Since you readers have been shy about volunteering as guest stylist, I invited him to show off his style. I know he has style since I have worn his bikinis a few times on this blog. Now, don’t forget, if you want to do a guest stylist shoot, IM Gidge or me.
He suggested artilleri for the shoot as a place that would fit his somewhat Rockabilly style. It was pure kismet that there happened to be a car in front that had the same flames as his shirt. That was just too perfect to pass by. Of course, the shirt is made by artilleri’s Antonia Marat, but there aren’t cars parked in fornt with the same print as all her other shirts. Besides, those Chucks have flames, too, and they are from Akeyo.

I am so excited that I’ve shot my first Guest Stylist for December and it’s Poly Pistachio (nee Polynesia Resident) who is a lovely person I’ve met on Plurk. I was in the mood to shoot someone besides me and I was busy being a cloud most of the night anyway (THANKS LINDEN LAB YOUR PRODUCTS ROCK) so I said, POLY! WATCHOO WEARING?
I was able to perform a very VERY important service to our community also. Poly was trying on shapes Both of which were riding invisible horses. I was able to say “OH MY GOD NO THOSE ARE HORRIBLE NEVER NEVER NEVER BUY THOSE” or something LIKE that. Continue reading
Alea Lamont was the first blog reader to volunteer to be a Guest Stylist. We are highlighting our readers for Christmas, so hope you aren’t too shy and contact one of us to ask for a shoot. You can also ask in comments, but make sure you have your correct avatar name. The details are here or here. Alea is every inch a Snow Angel in this amazing confection from EMO-tions. With such a heavenly look, I had to shoot her in her natural element – the clouds.
And the moon rose just to have a look for itself, that’s how lovely she looks with the dress, the Fa(u)ntasy wings and the beautiful hair.

Next Weeks Word(s): Whimsical
The SL Weekly Words Challenge is a weekly blogger challenge where I pose a word and you take that word and depict it with an image. There is no right or wrong way to do this challenge. Pictures can have avatars or not, it’s about what that word means to you.
So feel free to participate. And there is no deadline, no rules, just something to inspire you besides “what shoes go with this?” which is why I created the challenge in the first place. Thanks to you who left me comments asking me to keep going. I needed a kick!
There is a FLICKR group too for funz.

Back by popular demand! The word for this coming week is ABANDON.
Abandon: to leave completely, forsake utterly, desert, to give up, discontinue, withdraw from.
The pic is a bit hestitant Ophelia, isn’t it?

There is a small but festive FLICKR Group to post your pics too as well.

Christmas? Did I say Christmas? Yes, I surely did. I know it’s tacky to talk Christmas before Thanksgiving, but some gifts take time to prepare and complete. That’s the case with this. In real life, I am making my vanilla sugar before Thanksgiving in order to give it a full month to absorb all that flavor so when it’s opened at Christmas people will open the jar and get a head rush from the heady scent of vanilla. And yes, I will share the recipe so you, too, can make easy, inexpensive homemade Christmas presents. But on to this Christmas present for our readers.
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
We want to highlight you – you can even wear a hat.
Gidge and I are resuscitating our Guest Stylist feature that got lost when I was so sick last year. So, readers, if you would like to style yourself up and let Gidge or I shoot you and feature your styling on the blog, contact us to set up a time. Since the It’s Only Fashion family is pretty anarchic, Gidge will post her own guidelines for how she wants you to contact her, etc. If other members of the team want to join in, they will post their own invitation as well. For me, you can send me an IM and drop a snapshot of you in your outfit, so I can find a good location in advance. Don’t worry about whether I am on or off-line, I have im’s go to email when I am off-line so your message won’t be lost. I will get back to you and we can schedule a shoot. For the shoot, you will need to give me a notecard with your styling info and, of course, you can add any comments you like for me to add to the blog post.
Now – about that Christmas Vanilla Sugar. I buy some Mason® jars and clean and shine them up. I cut a pretty red and green cotton square that I will place between the round seal and the screw top for a little decoration. I buy a bunch of high quality whole Madagascar vanilla beans. I half fill a jar with ordinary white sugar, place one bean in the jar and then finish filing it. I screw on the pretty cap and let it sit until Christmas. By then the sugar will have absorbed the flavor and aroma of the vanilla bean and be the most delicious sugar for tee, coffee and for baking. Throughout the year, your friends who have received their flavored sugar can top the jar back up and that little bean will keep giving them flavor for months – running out of steam just in time for Christmas next year.
