Fashion Week

In First Life® there are hundreds of Fashion Weeks around the world, though the top four in New York, London, Paris and Milan dominate the fashion world. In Second Life®, there are countless fairs, expos, and fashion weeks, and the most riveting and dynamic is Modavia Fashion Week. Modavia Fashion Week runs concurrently with New York Fashion Week and oddly enough, my avatar was invited to both. Question: when an avatar is invited to a First Life event, can her typist go? Well, it’s not possible for me to go to New York, though I will watch on YouTube® but I can go to Modavia’s Fashion Week and I surely will. If you miss any of the Modavia Fashion Week, you can catch up with photos of the runway shows on their Flickr.

I have attended before and was blown away by the fabulous organization and professionalism that brought runway show after runway show in on time and with minimal fuss. They have 49 shows to produce in just 8 days, but I am confident that they will be on time and as near to flawless as computers, servers and isp’s will allow. I know that the fashion will be fun and exciting as creating a collection for Modavia Fashion Week inspires designers to be adventurous. I have no idea what’s in store, but I know it will be good.

Good art looks new because the artist has recombined something old to make something better. (Darby Bannard)

Mami Jewell’s main store, Azul, was closed for for a few weeks in August while she rebuilt her store. Celebrating the reopening of her store with its new look, Mami applied this aphorism quite literally to her work. She has created 45 limited release gowns from her collection in special colors that will be available only during the month of September. This is Dailey, one of the new, limited release color gowns.

I love the gorgeous rosy-mauve coloring in this dress. It’s so lovely against my skin and when overlaid by the yards of black lace, it’s stunning. The asymmetrical bodice is so lovely and elevates the dress to a new level.

52 Weeks of Color…. Week 34~MAUVE

I did a little inventory search and I came up with an amazingly CUTE dress from STC! I LOVE when I do a color search and I come up with something I don’t think I’ve ever worn (I know I shop too much) although I don’t think the designers think so….. This dress has some great gathering on the bodice and lovely ruffling on the hemline and the sleeves, which can be worn or not.

I’m in love with those butt ruffles…….

Don't Go Into The Dark

Or is it don’t go into the light? I can never remember which it is. Because if you go into the dark there are likely to be some sort of demons or zombies or zombie-demons waiting. But if you go into the light, then some sort of Mormon Quaker Oats man tries to eat  your soul.

At least, this is what I gleaned from Poltergeist 2. Continue reading

Adios a Mexico, Distrito Federal, lo faltaremos mucho. It’s always said to hear that another sim is leaving. I know there is a cycle and new sims are born and old ones get sold, remade and revived sometimes, but I would love to get new sims and still keep old sims. I don’t know the reason D.F is closing or when its last day will be, but I am going to shoot a few sets there before it goes. Distrito Federal, or DF, is a sim based on Mexico City, but many of its charms come from navigating the underground and exploring the powergrid. There are many levels to the city and you should explore them before it’s gone.

Sparkle

aug31_004

The Cloud 9 dress from Icing had such a lovely sparkle that I had to find the right setting to show it off. I hopped around exploring new places for about 40 minutes before deciding to go back to the wonderful, tried and true, Embryo.

Embryo is such a beautiful sim and so romantically lush with flowers and that gorgeous rich, red draping that I am in love with.

B O O K (with a mesh movie so you can see it in action)

aug30_001

I am in love with the art installation B O O K at Shinsekai. I think I have been back five times. I have to thank Olela for sending me the landmark, because it’s places like this that rekindle my excitement and enthusiasm for SL. I decided to try to capture my walkthrough and wear this mesh dress from Jane to highlight through movement what it is about mesh that gets fashionistas excited.

I am no machinamist and haven’t a clue what I am doing when making a video, so forgive the clunky transitions. The walkthrough took about 10 minutes and I edited to three and a half. I just hope that you can see how well mesh moves and get inspired to visit B O O K for yourself.

A drow's life

The life of a drow is a lonely one, the life of a cyber drow is even more lonely.
Descending from the mythological race of dark elves who used to live in the Underworld, they have been mutated via magic and were kinda reborn in the cyber era.
It’s a jungle out there – a cyber one, but still a jungle – and all the creatures living in this world better be ready. Even the drows, these dark creatures which are said to be evil. Maybe they have to.

A drow's life

Drows move silently and with a graceful quickness, blending into shadows with ease. They belong to the night, to the darkness.
