THE SL WEEKLY WORDS CHALLENGE: Peace

This week I was struck by my friend Kesseret saying her new motto is “If you want peace, you must prepare for war.”

That works for me.

The SL Weekly Words Challenge is a weekly blogger challenge where all bloggers are invited to participate by posting a picture on their blog or the flickr group that portrays to them, the essence of that week’s word challenge. There is no right or wrong way to portray a word, it’s about what the word means to you.

Day and Dusk at Versaille

Sep18_006

Another drop-dead gorgeous must-have gown from Modavia Fashion Week was the Rafaella from Donna Flora. This is one of those movie star gowns, the one that she wears as she comes down the long, wide stairs into a room of people who stop dancing and simply stare, agog at the sheer magnificent extravagance of her dress while the man of her dreams crushes a glass in his hand before rushing to her side where he can say something arrogant and jealous and start a fight so the movie lasts two hours instead of ten minutes.

Lost at Versailles

One of my favorite gowns from the fall collections at Modavia Fashion Week is Letia from Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice. Its sheer silk chiffon comes in three lovely florals. The man-tailored top and the stiffened sculpted skirt gives modern forms to this old world fabric. the corset also combines modern shape with a beautiful romantic toile. The combination of old and new is an exciting new look.

Back to Dire Marsh

Sept 16_008

My favorite outfit from the sYs collection for Modavia Fashion Week is this one called Stardust. I guess I felt the Stardust would feel at home in the swamp since that’s where I decided to shoot. The outfit has an aged and distressed look with the shredded sweater that seemed to call for a more noir setting.

What I Wore at Fashion Week

chantkare_001

We were asked to keep our Avatar Rendering Cost below 1500 which meant stripping off lots of alpha textures and intricate jewelry. It is not, however, a mandate to look boring, but rather a challenge to find style within the confines of 1500 rendering cost. I chose the simple sheath dress from Chantkare that was released at Modavia Fashion Week as there’s nothing like wearing the latest season at the season’s show. Chantkare’s Applonia Criss is such an expert at mixing patterns that I wanted to toss my hand in the ring when accessorizing. I added a short jacket from Reale and shoes from House of Fox that were a Platinum Hunt gift last month.

Fashion Experts on the Loose

Gidge and I have been wearing our “expert” hats today over at the Second Life Forums. I hope you can take a peek and check out how the hats fit our heads. We each did a post in the Community Blogs. Following that link will bring you to a lot of blog posts from the many fashion experts chosen for this week – with many intriguing and informative articles.

Gidge has a post on tattoo makeups that is a must-read.

I did an article on how cropping can make a photo better.

Then there are the forums where folks have been hanging out discussing some of our favorite topics.  Fashion expert Harper Beresford kicked off a fun meme yesterday when she asked “How has your look changed over the years? ” and people began sharing their timelines of looks. It’s great fun, informative and well worth exploring. So pop over and visit.

Jewelry Fair 2011 – Bliensen + MaiTai / Just A Pose

Four beautiful themed sims – water, fire, earth, air – full of amazing creations from some of the best SL jewelry (and jewelry related items and poses) designers: that is what you’ve got to expect from the Jewelry Fair 2011, which officially opened its gates on September 16.
Also: free classes, gatcha machines, charity auctions, gifts. Part of proceeds from the Fair will go to Oxfam International, an international confederation of 15 organizations working together in 98 countries and with partners and allies around the world to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.
My compliments to Cara Ametza, the Fair’s organizer, who did a great job!

I’d like to show you some of the fabulous creations from Bliensen + MaiTai which are available at the Fair. From deco to vintage to ethnic style, B+M jewels and accessories always enchant me:

Ball Gowns and Lighthouses

sep07_007

Ever notice that fashion editorials never seek to explain why they picture a model standing in a muddy plowed field with a hoe while wearing a lovely lace gown by Givenchy? They don’t explain because they don’t have to, that’s their magic. So, I am not going to explain why I am spinning around on a beach with a lighthouse in this gown. I just am, it’s a pretty place, the air is fresh. ‘Nuff said. The gown is one of the 45 limited release colors to celebrate the redesign and reopening of the Azul store. Get thee hence and pick up one, two or more of these limited release colors – and have a gown that after September no one will be able to purchase one just like you.

Vogue + Dire Swamp = Fashion

sept 16_019

I fell in love with the rich textures in this outfit the minute it came out on the runway at Modavia Fashion Week. I oohed so loudly my cat thought it was his lunchtime. That rosy brown plaid is stunning and one of the see-it-to-believe it pieces that walked those runways. There’s something rugged and wild about it that made me hop over to Dire Marsh to shoot it. It is such an evocative sim.

So Much Goodness

Shiki Japonesqe

Shinichi Mathy, of Shiki, released a sweetly feminine collection at Modavia Fashion Week. Using a gentle palette of blues and greens with dainty and delicate prints, there are threads from his native Japan woven into this collection. From the straight lines of his gowns to the delicate textures and fine fabrics, you can see him paying homage to his culture in this collection in ways as subtle and delicate as the clothing itself. This one is called Japonesque.

SHIKI Kyoto Dress

The fabric in the Kyoto dress show a much more direct inspiration. I love the soft, organic colors and the subtlety of this print.

Shiki Motomachi Girl

The Motomachi Girl dress is  beautiful gown that hugs the figure. I love the sheer batiste bodice and collar and the soft, natural green.

Ginza Party Girl

And then there is the Ginza Party Girl dress, an explosion of blue fireworks and femininity that like much of this collection draws your eyes to the neck and shoulders.
