I've Got Sunshine On a Cloudy Day

When The Temptations sang that, their sunshine came from “My Girl” but in my case, the sunshine is packaged up in a lovely bundle from Pink Outfitters called the Sierra Bubble Dress. I love the pure unabashed bright sunshine yellow.  The bodice details and belt add playful elements – making this a dress full of joy – and sunshine.

I‘ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it’s cold outside I’ve got the month of May
I guess you’d say

What can make me feel this way?
My dress  (my dress, my dress)
Talkin’ ’bout my dress (my dress)

I  put my dress to the test by stopping by Inis Caiseal – a sim that really demands cloudy windlight settings.  Yes, it passed the test with flying colors – sunshine on a cloudy day.

I’ve got so much honey the bees envy me
I’ve got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees

I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way?
My dress (my dress, my dress)
Talkin’ ’bout my dress (my dress)

Inis Caiseal

It’s so easy to find beauty in Second Life – and not just in fashion, but in the landscapes, the art, the music and the friendships. If you look for beauty, you will find it. If you look for wonder, you will find it. It’s that kind of seek and you shall find sort of place. Inis Caiseal is one of three contiguous sims that make up the Alchemy Immortalis archipelago.  Despite knowing it makes me sound inane, I have to confess I love the word archipelago. It has such a funky sound to it. Raise your hands if you like how some words sound irrespective of their meaning!

OKay, to the business at hand – showing off the gorgeous new jacket from L’Abel.  More accurately, it’s part of a suit that includes some quilted knee-length shorts. I am not a great lover of shorts or quilted bottoms of any sort, but adore the structure of the jacket. This is a must have in every color – it’s beautifully formed and carefully made and I love it! The only thing that would make it more perfect is to have the option of a prim for the jacket’s bottom in addition to the system skirt. Then it could be worn with system skirts or with pants. Flexibility is always a win in my book.

Party Dress

Gidge & I had a party on Saturday and we really need to have parties more often. It was a lot of fun. I wore this gorgeous new dress from  L’Abel that is perfect party wear. It’s got that frilly skirt that is perfect for dancing since it covers up all the funny dance positions our animations can bring us to, but it’s nice and short to show off the dancing shoes.

People Say Thanks In The Sexiest Ways

Bastet Hazelnut recently asked for ideas of places to shoot pictures on plurk and since I have a notecard that I save landmarks for nice spots to shoot pictures with notes about permissions, I passed it over to her. It’s out of date and I keep promising myself I will spend the 2 or 3 days of teleporting around that it would take to clean it up, but dang it, everytime I try I get so many failed tp’s. Today I spent nearly an hour trying to update and check landmarks and made a total of four successful teleports. This was after taking care not to wear scripted hair, jewelry and shoes so that scripts would not be hanging me up. Argggh! However, it you want a copy of your own, just IM me in-world and I will pass it to you.

Bastet very kindly sent me a thank you gift – this gorgeous lace lingerie set. I could not resist shooting it right away because it was just so frilly and fun. People say thanks in the sexiest ways like giving a guide on rabbit vibrators as a gift! The name of her store is NUT and now I owe her an apology because the instant I read that, I immediately thought of a song my older sister would sing to me when I was a kid. Of course, I think she owes me an apology for getting that song stuck in my head. I want to share the pain, but will warn you that this song burns brain cells.

I Knew A Girl Named Ysenia

posted by Gidge Uriza

I used to work with this girl named Ysenia who was Cuban. Except, I lived in Tampa – and in Tampa you say SPANISH when you mean Cuban.

So let’s start over. I used to work with this girl named Ysenia who was SPANISH. She wasn’t very girly, she had long straight hair that she pulled back, and she wore her brothers old clothes and really, she made butch girls look girly. I liked her a lot and ate lunch with her frequently, and during lunch she’d taunt me about being such a girly girl and the fact that at that time, I changed my nail color more than some people changed their mind. Don't Hate the System Skirt!

I am a confirmed lover of the system skirt. It’s really the only way to get the long, lean look of a pencil skirt. There’s no skirt shape more flattering and sexy than a pencil skirt at least in my opinion. Like most people, I found the initial look of a pencil skirt in SL a bit disturbing because my derriere just ballooned when I put on a skirt. That’s because the system skirt floats above the mesh instead of laying flush on it. I quickly learned to create a skirt shape that fixed all that and have been loving system skirts ever since. It’s not that much work and you only have to do it once – make a copy of your shape, make the edits and save it as Skirt Shape and you’re good to go. There’s an awesome tutorial  for you from Miko Okegamu on youtube.

comfortably chic

I have a few formal gowns in real life including one to-die-for body-hugging extravaganza of embroidery and beads and pailletes with a slit on one side that goes almost to the waist – it’s a hot little number and I almost always wear one of the others. I don’t know why, but most occasions that call for a formal gown are not nice, short little one to two hour cocktail parties but long, tortuous 4 hour banquet, program, dance marathons and whenever I think of hours at a banquet table sitting on those bumpy beads and being scratched by those pailletes and managing that slit to make sure I don’t flash London or France, I push the garment bag along and choose another gown. Yeah, it’s gorgeous and I would happily wear it for a couple hours, but not for 5 or 6. When I saw this gown from LaLei, I thought, yeah, you could wear that all night long and look good until the wee hours of the morning.

Ode on a Filigree Hat

The Sakura hat from Boudoir inspired a bit of poetic license.

O Chapeau shape!  Chic attitude! with strings
Of dogwood and  black threads like iron wrought,
With forest branches and metaphoric wings
Thou, hatly form, dost tease us out of thought
As doth eternity: thou filigree hat!
When pixel dust shall this fashion waste,
Thou shalt remain, in midst of other blogs
Than ours, a friend to fashion, to whom thou say’st,
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,” – that is that
and all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

with profuse apologies to John Keats

Tupelo Honey

You can take all the tea in China, put in a big brown bag for me. Sail around the all the seven oceans, drop it straight into the deep blue sea. He’s as sweet as Tupelo Honey. He’s as angel of the first degree. He’s as sweet as Tupelo honey. Just like honey from the bee. That just happens to be the song playing on my Itunes as I post this and it also happens to be one of my favorite songs. Although it’s a Van Morrison song, I am listening to my favorite cover of it by Cassandra Wilson and it’s just a meltingly beautiful song. It’s such a romantic song.  Whether it suits this sexy little dress, that’s for you to decide. I like it so well, I think it suits everything.

Like a flower

Like a flower waiting to bloom
Like a lightbulb in a dark room
I’m just sitting here waiting for you
To come home and turn me on

The quiet beauty of Norah Jones’ Turn Me On is a perfect accompaniment to Baiastice’s Comme des fleurs (Like the flowers) not just in literal terms, but also in the soft romanticism they both evoke. From the pale blush pink of the dress to the quiet bell-like notes of the song – this is quiet, sure and profound romanticism at work.
