Orage Creations for Couture of Hope

may05_020
I first saw this dress when Orage Creations designer Elettra Gausman posted a picture of it on Facebook. The intricate lace of the skirt made me think of gossamer and of fabric woven from spider webs, it is that fine and that delicate. Its delicacy is stunning.

Inspired by the idea of hope, Elettra added some glowing kinetic hearts that swirl around since love is one of the building blocks of hope. In order to hope, we need to love ourselves and our lives, so it seemed very fitting.

Azul Linda for Culture Shock

may04_003

My favorite of the three offerings from Azul for Culture Shock is this gorgeous brown and gold floral print. It’s a slinky, body-hugging mermaid style dress that is elegant and formal, but with an easy style that is very contemporary.

Shocking Pink

may01_018
Culture Shock has inspired so many designers to go all out with color and creativity to raise funds for Médecins Sans Frontières. That link takes you to their page about the Culture Shock event, something I know is an important element in establishing the bona fides of a Second Life charitable event. I really love the new dresses from Kunglers and there are 5 color options. What makes this even more fun is that the prints area different, not recolors, but completely different prints. This is the abstract dress with a cerise skirt and tank and a pink print blouse over it.

Yes, we have options!

Azoury for Couture of Hope

may01_007
I was very intrigued by the design from Azoury France for Couture of Hope. The dress is named La Tenue Lavande or the Lavender Dress. Just that alone is intriguing since it is not lavender in color. Most intriguing, though, is the sculpted skirt and the fine details in its construction. From the felted denim of the skirt, the sculptural shaping of the skirt to the leather laced embellishments, it’s a dress designed to not only please, but to make you curious.

Some may ask why. Fashion asks why not. My apologies to George Bernard Shaw.

Culture Shock – Indie Rose

apr30_007

Culture Shock opened yesterday and enjoyed my short visit to the venue to explore what the most creative minds in SL have come up with to help raise funds for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. Indie Rose created some lovely dresses including this yellow floral.

Paranoia Rising

nov13_001

In case you missed the news, I have been exploring the fresh new hell that is modern medical care. Don’t get me wrong, I am overwhelmed by the compassion and professional care provided by the nurses, doctors and all the staff. Even when I have been “i know you are trying to kill me” paranoid, they have been wonderful. But all the compassion in the world cannot put the lid back on the bug jar when that bizarre combination of real physical pain, the loss of editorial control from pain meds and the psychosis induced by renal failure introduced me to an entire new world. In fact, when I get out I think I have some blockbuster sci-fi stories on file, if I can find some thread of coherence.

Isn’t it just perfect, then, that the last photo shoot before I went into the hospital is atypical of my usual shoot and includes some pics that would totally fit into a couple of my narratives of the last week, like the one where the Dept. of Defense was attempting to do a consciousness transfer of my mind to the man who loves war via Ipod. Ipod??? Go figure. But I am pleased that the DoD was on the side of peace and justice and only hatched their scheme in response to his love of war.

Color Me Coddly, Color Me Happy

nov11_033

I had planned to blog this before I went into the hospital for surgery, but ran out of “oomph” and didn’t get it up. I shot this for Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge because I love this gown from Paper Couture and it’s blue, blue, blue!!!!

nov11_030

The gown may be blue and the lovely Endless sim may be blue, but I a not feeling blue at all. I am a happy woman. When my best friend came to visit me after surgery she said, “before we chat, go look at your blog.” I cried, of course, touched not only be the treasure trove that is Gidge’s boundless heart, but also by the outpouring of good wishes, hopes and prayers from friends, acquaintances and readers here on the blog, in SL and in plurk. There was a whirlwind of love and kindness that circled the globe, gathering up hope an dropping it gently into that operating theater here at OHSU. And it worked. My surgery was complete within the minimum estimated time and there were no complications at all. Despite a rough day of illness and drama yesterday, I woke up this morning full of energy and optimism. Thank you each and every one for adding your voice to that whirlwind of hope that lifted me up through a very rough few days.

Wishing Well

oct02_020.jpg

How appropriate that this photo shoot was done at the Wishing Well at the Looking Glass sim, because I am full of wishes right now. At least half center on getting rid of this stupid cold that is kicking my ass. Until that wish is granted I expect my blogging to be a bit erratic as I have not been well enough to be in-world and shoot photos. Luckily I had these photos waiting for when I felt well enough to blog without whining too much. Anyway, it’s just a cold and it will get better – soon or later, but until then, wish me well.

oct02_019.jpg

Have you noticed that I am very fond of the Looking Glass? There are so many little gems there to enjoy. Even if you don’t want to shoot pictures, you should go for the sheer pleasure. By the way, I should take this opportunity to urge you all to tip sim owners when you love their sims. Think of the wonderful sims that give us all so much pleasure to explore and add such beauty and interest to our SL lives. Many of them are non-commercial and really are labors of love and generosity. Contributing a small tip when you visit will help offset the cost – though only in part – but also show the sim owner that you value their work. Usually there’s a tip jar somewhere around the entrance, but if not you can inspect an object to find the owner as well.

Cecilia

oct02_016.jpg

Cecilia, you’re breaking my heart
You’re shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I’m down on my knees
I’m begging you please to come home

oct02_010.jpg

The heartless Cecelia of Simon & Garfunkel’s lyrics could get away with running off with other men because she was so fascinating. If she were wearing the Cecilia gown from Azul, that would not hurt either. In this photo, I ran off to the Old Abbey at The Looking Glass – a gorgeous sim from Marcus Inkpen that is a delight to explore.

Regal

sep29_015.jpg

Monica Outlander’s Black Label collection for her dazzling Spleen and Ideasm show is full of stunning and amazing outfits. The range in mood from the outrageously avant garde to the sedately regal. The Indrith gown is one of the most regal gowns in the collection with its rich colors, its fleur-de-lis textures and its massive panniers that give it majesty.

sep29_010.jpg

A dress of this scale deserves a setting that is also majestic – like ChouChou V – Memento Mori with a staircase made for long gowns.
