Brilliant!

Okay, so this jacket is not named Briliant! but it should be. Instead it is named bling though only in the 1st life sense. I assure you there is no bling script adulterating the sheer brilliance of this wild and sexy jacket. It is so brilliantly sexy it motivated me to wear a much shorter than usual miniskirt – one that is pure sex appeal.

Now I do have a nightie like this in RL – but only in SL will you catch me wearing something quite this short out of the house. Still, I love the lines of the lace insets and the figure-flattering way they are placed. This is definitely an eye-catching dress.

Mambo No. 5

I hopped over to watch the Musashi-Do Fashion Show yesterday and wanting to be a good audience member, I dug in my closet a bit and slipped into a lovely bit of low arc clothing from Ingenue.  The dress is Mama Loves Mambo and you know what, I do love the mambo. It’s a sexy shimmying song perfect for figure-hugging dresses like this one. The lovely sash down one side sways to the music and adds a lively touch to your dancing.

Feeling Groovy

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin’ groovy.

I was certainly feeling groovy when I put on the lovely new sunglasses from Lelutka. A fun surprise group gift, I could not resist adding them to this fun little outfit featuring a sweater and skirt from MiaMai.

Now Is the Future

The trouble with naming an exhibition The Future is Now: 2010 is that it leads to thinking about what that means. The Future is always now in that our decisions today determine the future, but I wonder if with our faster world of today, it might be that Now is the Future. I hope not.  As our communication systems get more universal, faster and more interconnected, we have become able to create world-wide networks of friends and acquaintances that involve us in new ways in a broader world. This leads me to hope and optimism and that our decisions will be smarter, less parochial and in that way, the future is now – or could be. There’s a grimmer counter effect, however, to our faster, more efficient communications. People have all sorts of theories and ideas, but I kind of think of it as the Relentlessness of Now.  We know so much of what is happening NOW that NOW drives our decision making process more than the future. This leads to unfortunate, sometimes disastrous decision-making on the individual and the national and international levels.  Much of the global financial crisis can be directly credited to Now trumping the Future in investment and planning.  Sometimes we need to slow down and think – and think about the future, because if Now is the Future that we plan for, we are in trouble.

But enough about that. The Future is Now event is actually a celebration of thinking past today and anticipating a future unknowable and unexpected – full of delights and mysteries and life of all kinds.  You will be seeing all sorts of fantastical imaginings from this event – but I am drawn to the more earth-centered exploration of futuristic clothing that is wearable today. The Disconnected Dress from Baiastice is just that. I can imagine it being worn on a starship or on a sidewalk – and that’s wonderful.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

The Old Man Is Snoring!

It’s a bit chilly today with the rain and the wind, so I decided to wear something toasty. The lovely fur jacket from COCO is just the thing. Adding the high-waisted tuxedo pants which are a nice wind-resisting wool will keep me comfy and still chic.

Monster Jackets

There are some statement jackets in Modern Gypsy’s Fashion Monster collection. For example, this jacket from the Zhora pants outfit is an amazing piece of construction with shoulders that could conquer the universe if they set themselves to the task. Coincidentally, Newreem Waffles styled the same two jackets in her blog today, too – in a very different way, demonstrating how versatile these jackets are.

The jacket that comes with the powerful Hecate leather dress makes and equally strong statement – one of surprise and delight at seeing such a jacket chosen for such a noir dress. After all, when you hear black leather dress, a houndstooth wool jacket is not what pops into mind, but then Hecate is a dress of surprises.

Tain't What You Do

Tain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.
Tain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.

Tain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.
That’s what gets results!

We would all benefit if we took this song to heart, wouldn’t we? I think when you look at Sissy Pessoa, you can see she has. I have been enjoying her designs since 2007 and have loved watching her learn new skills and expand her line. When I first started shopping at Baiastice, she made beautiful clothing. Then she made some purses and sunglasses. She was prolific and you had to hop all over the grid to her different stores to see her entire output. Then she finally got a sim and you could see everything in one place – and she started making shoes. Amazing shoes! And then she started to make skins – and always, getting better. Her clothing also got stronger and better as she began to experiment with sculpts and new shapes. She has never rested on her laurels and has yet to plateau. You can see that constant striving in this gorgeous gown and her lovely new skin line – Casting.

Shape, Shape, Shape Your Bootie

I don’ t know if any of you have been watching Bravo’s Launch My Line, but I have. It’s been enjoyable, but Dan and Dean are no Tim Gunn and they don’t offer advice at all, just eye rolls and jaw drops. They fall between the genuine mentorship of Gunn and the rude bitchiness of Mizrahi in that miserable Fashion Show, but really, what’s wrong with being helpful and supportive? Now that I began with an off-topic tangent, let get back to the point. Recently Vanessa was dropped when she added some pockets to accentuate the hips. It was probably her most commercial dress of the competitioion, so the lesson she learned was if you listen to the judges and take their advice you get axed.  The judges said no woman ever wants to accentuate her hips. Well, that’s just wrong!!! And to prove it, look at how luscious this dress looks. You just have to do it right. Micah Kanto knows how to do it right.

Ahem, about that challenge, Lord Winter?

When Winter Jefferson challenged Gidge to style an outfit featuring Exile’s exuberant Zoe hair, she rose to the challenge and threw down the gauntlet. Well, it seems Lord Winter is too busy planning his upcoming nuptials to Tenshi Vielle to answer the challenge – but never fear, I decided to give it a go and flap that glove in Winter’s face a few times. After all, shouldn’t a challenger actually do the challenge, too? So, here it is: Exile’s Zoe. Yes, it’s a wild and hairy sort of challenge – literally. However, I found it was deceptively easy. You see, the hair may be wild and full of exuberance, but it’s expertly placed exuberance that somehow just didn’t seem to intersect nearly as much as I expected. I really did not have to do a lot of searching for poses that work.

I did, however, think it deserved somethind wild, so I raided a pants set from Chatkare for the top and paired it with the truly wild Feather Skirt from So Many Styles.
