Gone But Not Forgotten Blogger Challenge

Oct07b_005

Today I am wearing Curio’s Chic New Wave skin. You still cannot buy this lovely youthful skin because the legal case is continuing to work its way through the system. Someone once said that justice is like a train that is always late.  While the “court of the internet” may have adjudicated this case, the court of law moves more slowly and months will pass in discovery and depositions and waiting to be scheduled into court calendars and the wheels will grind slowly.

But the wheels of Second Life spin faster. Stores that close are soon forgotten, buried in an alluvial plane created by the flood of new stores, new designers and new releases. The relentless flow of the new, new, new can overwhelm stores that are able to engage in SL commerce, so imagine how that will affect a store that has closed. If you search for Curio and SL, you don’t find Gala Phoenix’s beautiful skins, you find stories about the legal case.

So, I have a challenge, or perhaps a better term is a pledge. I pledge to wear and blog Curio skins at least twice a month, even though my readers cannot buy them right now. It’s not a lot, but if other bloggers who like the brand and have the skins can also take part, perhaps we can help combat the flood of forgetfulness, each post a little sandbag against the flood of time.

Of course, we all blog with varying frequency, so some may pledge more and some may pledge less, but I hope that those who can, will take this pledge. I would love to google Curio and SL and see pretty pictures and fun fashion posts again.

Structure

oct06_003

While sculpts have given way to mesh in Second Life®, in first life fashion, sculpting is all the rage. Structured dresses made with polished linen blends are sculpted with angled darts and pleats to give us classic shapes with dynamic and exciting details. This new dress from Molichino for the October FaMESHed showcase is a perfect example of the structured dresses that have been taking over the runways of the world.

Glamming It Up

sep05_002

I was DJing the other night and decided this new dress from Glam Affair for faMESHed fit the bill perfectly. It comes in pink, mint and black and features a dramatic asymmetrical skirt with a belted empire waist. It really is a lovely dress for dancing though I had to choose relatively simple dances to avoid exposing the alpha texture that made my avatar’s body disappear. Of course, nearly all dresses place some constraints on what dances I use, so that’s no big deal to me.

sep05_010

Speaking of alpha textures. It would be nice if creators made alphas at the absolute minimum size. This skirt stands out a bit from the hips, so I wonder if the alpha could have ended at the waist or at the hip bone rather than continuing down to the thigh. Of course, I was too lazy to make my own, but considering how sexy this dress is, it would be lovely for the sexy lingerie I was wearing to show. It would certainly allow for a more rambunctious dance – perhaps one with a kick or two.

Still Hungering for Mesh

sep03_007

FaMESHed is a monthly showcase of great original mesh content. I have no objection to designers who work with templates to produce new and original versions of more generic designs. I am glad there are options for great texture artists to work in mesh even without the technical expertise needed to produce original mesh work. Still, there is something exciting about an event where you know that every item is an original work. I was pleased to see Rebel Hope participating this month and am in love with the fabulous wool dresses that have been released in advance of the fall season.

sep03_002

The dress is beautifully made with a gorgeous flat self-binding edge around the bodice. This accentuates the shape and highlights the neckline subtly. The fabric is a gorgeous herringbone weave in a light summer wool, making a perfect fall dress that could be worn as a jumper for a blouse or paired with a sweater or jacket – or on a warm day like today, worn on its own. My shoes are from Celoe – a lovely fawn color with a slender heel and a pointed toe. I know podiatrists probably love the round and square toe fashions in shoes of today, but I very much prefer the pointed toe in general. It just feels so much more dressy to me.

Paperwork

Aug31_012

Any regular reader of It’s Only Fashion knows that I am in love with playing with light and projectors in Second Life. I have also adopted the amazing PhotoTools skins from William Weaver that make the controls for Windlight, Depth of Shadow and other photo interfaces so much more accessible. He’s launched a new web site to share photo resources and tutorials all in one spot. If you’re serious about Second Life photographer, you should check out Paperwork Shows.

William Weaver has also made a few builds using projectors to create fabulous light effects. With extraordinary generosity, he has put four of those builds on Marketplace for free. This set was shot in his Edward Hopper build. They use a lot of prims, but they are placed with a rez box, so you can simply derez them when you are done.

Projectors Made Easy as 123

BAIASTICE @ Vintage Fair

Since Gidge and I have been playing with projectors lately, a few people have checked out the tutorials and asked a few questions about how to do it. So Gidge got the great idea of setting up a pose box with the projector and light leak texture built right in along with some poses situated in the sweet spot where the projectors come together. Thus the Status Dual Projector Box 1.0 was born. It makes taking fun pictures as easy as 123. But first, let’s take a look at this gorgeous top and skirt from Baiastice for Vintage Fair. It comes in several colors and you can put the same color top and skirt together to look more like a dress, but I love hot pink and lime – they are just the perfect expression of summer. I love the easy style of the top and skirt with the great details that make it special, like the inset belt and the soft pleating at the hem of the skirt.

Shiki Gets Meshy

Aug07_002

I am so happy to see Shiki releasing in mesh with this lovely summer dress. The dress has been released in six different prints from this soft and delicate blue to bold tropical oranges, all with the distinctive Shiki love for florals. Not all clothing should be made of mesh, but for this silhouette, mesh is the ideal option.

Farmer’s Market

Aug04Bilo_005

I love to cook seasonal, locally grown foods and am lucky enough to have a weekly farmer’s market just three blocks from where I live as well as an organic supermarket and a organic food coop in the neighborhood. I stopped by this farmer’s market in Second Life but the selection was not nearly so extensive as in real life. There’s lots of melons, though, and nothing could be finer on a hot summer day than a fresh, cold melon. Many of you may not know that I also do a cooking blog, and there’s a fabulous watermelon salad recipe there if you want to pick up a melon here at the market on Scotland Creinch.

Exploring Again

Aug03b_006

I have been sticking close to home lately as Second Life has become a crash-monster, freezing my computer if I blinked at it wrong. I finally bit the bullet and bought MacKeeper to easily do some cleanup and maintenance. It was worth it, quickly finding hundreds of unnecessary files clogging up my computer and giving me 20 GB more space. That’s a lot! Best of all, and here I am knocking on pixel wood, it seems to have addressed the crashing problem. To celebrate, I hopped over to Kou! to see the surrealist art there, wearing this gorgeous new top from Zaara that is a work of art in itself.

No, I don’t understand it either. I don’t need to understand to appreciate its quirkiness.

Donna Flora Does Mesh for Vintage Fair

Vintage Fair - Cajsa Lilliehook

There has been a Donna Flora shortage on the grid this year while the store’s designer/creator Squinternet Larnia has been going through cancer treatment and working on rebuilding her strength, but Vintage Fair has inspired her to come back with a bang – releasing three mesh dresses in several options. This dress is Elena and it comes in eight different colors/textures.

Vintage Fair - Donna Flora

One of the great things about Donna Flora’s designs is that she doesn’t just recolor, she retextures with different prints, creating different moods.
